2009 Kyoto 500 : Driver's Briefing
Hello competitors for the 2009 Kyoto 500:

This thread will be for discussion ONLY of topics addressed in this post. This will serve as the majority of the drivers briefing, but some things will be reiterated/added on race day in server before the race

General Information:
Race: 2009 Kyoto 500
Distance: 268 laps +2 pace laps = 270 laps.
Green flag time: 16:45 UTC.

The Green Flag Time is the time that the Green Flag should be waved to start the race, not the time to arrive to the server.

All competitors must be in the LFS server prior to 16:15 UTC, and also the Vent server by 16:20 UTC. Failure to do so will considerably hold up the event, and will possibly see you sent to the back of the grid.

I will start grid setting by 16:25 UTC providing everyone shows up on time. Failure to show up by the time I start grid setting will see you start from the back of the grid, regardless of where you started or who you are.

The pace laps will start at 16:42. All drivers are asked to be ready by this point, and the Safety Car and Rescue Car will go ready at the start time. No one should wait until the last minute.

The Start:
On the start, the Saftey Car will pull away from the grid on the pitlane speed limiter to buy us a bit of extra time to sort the grid. DO NOT PULL AWAY UNTIL THE CAR AHEAD HAS DONE SO. We prefer that you go single file into Turn 1, then step into three wide. But, if you are aware that rows 2, 4, 6, 8, etc on the doube file swap the inside car to the outside, and the outside car to the inside, with the inside row 2 car going to the outside of row 1, and the outside row 2 car going inside Row 3, then things iwll be easier. Remember that the row numbers referred to here in this paragraph are the rows as they start on the LFS grid, not the three wide. I'll do an image to help illustrate this later today/tommorow.

The first half of the first pace lap will be run with the Safety Car on it's pit limiter. Following cars are not required to be on pitlimiters, but must respect that speed. This is being done to allow a bit more time at a slower speed to form into three wide and recognize your rowmates. After Turn 2 or whenever I'm satisfied that grid formation is sucessful, the SC will speed up carefully to its 140 km/h, 87mph speed. This will take place on the straight between Turns 2 and three, so all the field should gently speed up as well.

The PoleSitter will control the pace once the Safety Car has hit the apron on the in. The leader may gently accelerate once the SC is off. I will display the Green flag around the Kyoto National start/finish line, before the kink. The rows should be mostly even, and the polesitter should be the first one into the kink, giving him the advantage of the position. Anyone jumping the gun will see the start waved off, and the field should simply resume pace car speed and continure around for anotehr try. A second jump start will see the driver assigned a drive-through.

Cautions:
Please remember, that when the Safety Car is called into action, drivers are to gently slow down and hold position. Brakes should never be used under safety car conditions, just gentle throttle controls. If you have to use brakes, it better be to avoid an incident. If it's just braking while in SC queue, consider that you're going too fast or following too close. There is no need to rush under cautions, leave comfortable gaps.

Remember, that once the caution comes out, PITLANE CLOSES. No one should wait at pit entry for pits to open. If your car cannot continue with heavy damage to suspension meaning that it can't drive straight, such as crooked tyres, or completely FUBARed suspension, then you may pit under closed pit, and then take the restart from the end of the line. Otherwise, stay as close as you can to the queue, and wait for pits to open. Remember: Enter off the exit of Turn 3 under caution.

Responding to Incidents:
Please do not charge full blast into incidents. That just makes them more catastrophic. Anyone found to have charged into an incident and had time to take avoiding actions, will recieve a penalty. Charging into an accident can make it bigger than it can be. RESPECT LFS YELLOW FLAGS. The will help indicate trouble ahead. You rarely get false yellows on the oval, so when you see one, be VERY Heads Up. Don't immediately back off, but watch ahead and then take appropriate actions.

We will NOT be making a consious effort to flip cars that are stranded upside down. A Rescue Car WILL Respond, but will only do so to help indicate to the field where teh stranded cars are, and the Rescue Car will be charged with removing the obstruction from course at an appropriate time.

All drivers, please REMOVE any binds of any type prior to the race, including any quick-spec/pit buttons. Once you spec or pit, you're out. DO NOT REJOIN THE TRACK, as that screws up the post race resutls and will delay them being done. ONLY Spectate when told to do so by a race admin. No instinctive telepitting when crashing, just let it happen, it is, after all, more realistic that way.

This should be all for now, we hope that you will practice well, and be fully ready to take on the challenge of The Greatest Spectacle in LFS.
