LFS server on linux/unix..?
hello,
i have several questions so i decided to open a new thread:
is it possible to run an lfs server under linux/unix? (using wine or something)
how do i load one?
how much bandwidth does it use?
how much process does it use?
is there anything else to know before running one?
1. Yes.
2. Using the dedicated server, with WINE.
3. Depends on a lot of settings. Use the bandwidth calculator in the full S2 client.
4. Almost nothing.
5. Learn how to secure your server.

I cant seem to find it, but heres how I basically did it before;
1. Create a new user, to specifically run the LFS server (lock it down as much as possible)
2. Download WINE using your favourite package manager
3. Logon as your LFS server user
4. Download the dedicated server using wget or curl, and then unzip
5. Create a script to run LFS. Basically "nohup wine LFS.exe /cfg=path/to/setup.cfg /dedicated=nogfx >/dev/null & echo $! > lfsdedicatedserver.pid" is what you want, but any old bit of BASH scripting should work.
6. Setup a cron and another script to check the server is still running. Basically just either use pgrep or check the pid file created when the server starts
7. Optionally setup a cron to restart the server every 12 hours (there used to be a tiny bug with some versions of WINE which caused LFS to "crash").
8. Log off and Lock down the LFS account / whole box
hmm.. i run the server, but it wont stay running, it just kills the pid or something :S
