Round 3: Penalties
Quote :#1
Car Numbers:
#04 TDRT 1 & #26 SHD
Lap/Time: L18
Description of incident: Car #04 hits SHD #26 in the long uphill left turn after the first sector split and spins #26. Car #26 loses 5 positions.
Analysis: Car #26 made a slight mistake exiting the chicane which gave the #04 a run. However, the #26 took the natural line through the next corner (i.e., right up to the curb) and the #04 decided to drive on the grass to attempt a pass rather than backing off. The #04 ran into the side of the #26 and spun it, losing it many positions.
Judgment: C2 (10pt) penalty for car #04 as described in rule H5.

Car Numbers:
#15 CD 1 & #26 SHD
Lap/Time: L142 (#26's frame of reference)
Description of incident: On the restart from the third SC period, the nose of the #15 makes contact with the right rear corner of the #26 under braking for T1. #26 spins and is passed by many cars.
Analysis: Car #15 braked at the appropriate time and held his line through the corner. The #26, likely not anticipating that the #15 would be there, turned down across the #15's nose and was spun gently to the inside. Since the contact would not have occurred were the #26 properly aware of the #15's presence, this is a racing incident.
Judgment: No penalty.

Car Numbers:
#29 TDRT 2 & #26 SHD
Lap/Time: L142 (#26's frame of reference)
Description of incident: Having recovered from the T1 spin, the #26 is attempting to get going again. As it comes through the last turn of the downhill esses, it gets a yellow flag for an accident ahead. The #26 slows, sees the #29 stopped in the middle of the track, and takes the inside line. However, the #29 reverses directly into the #26's path and a secondary crash results.
Analysis: The #29 displayed a lack of situational awareness in two regards in this incident. First of all, the driver should have seen a car coming on the mini-map and stayed put until it passed. But more importantly, review of the replay shows that the #29 did not brake at all as it approached the pileup on the bridge, and what's more, did not even lift off the throttle. Note that the #26 also displayed a slight lack of situational awareness in not slowing enough for a completely stationary car, and paid the price.
Judgment:
C2 (10pt) penalty for car #29 as described in rule H5.

Quote :#4 (admin-initiated review)
Car Numbers:
#16 Dynamic Racing & #03 Adaptive Racing
Lap/Time: L1
Description of incident: At the grid start of the event, #16 Dynamic Racing hits the rear of the #03 Adaptive Racing car and sends it spinning, resulting in the #03 starting from the rear (26th) rather than its rightful 6th place.
Analysis: Upon review of the incident, admins found that the #16 driver kept the throttle wide open leading up to and after the green light, braking only after he had hit the rear of the #03. When asked, the driver stated that he had forgotten that the IGTC used a rolling start, and that the incident was his fault. (Note: the #16 was given a SG penalty for this infraction during the race.)
Judgment:
C2 (10pt) penalty for car #16 as described in rule H5.

*Upon reviewing the penalty system, we feel that 10pt penalties are somewhat harsh for some of the incidents described here. However, the rules that were in effect at the time of Round 3 specify these penalties and so we are bound to apply them. These will likely be reduced somewhat for Round 4 and subsequent rounds.
