Ah the good times......
Hi All,

I'm pretty new here (der) and to LFS. I've had the demo for a few weeks and got a Momo wheel just a week ago. Extremely impressed and will have my S2 licence with next weeks pay.

Was just wondering if anyone could tell me what times I should be consistantly gaining in the XRT before I endeavour to race online?

When I get a chance (at work ATM) I will post a replay of mine to see where you guys think I can improve. At the moment I'm only just getting used to the whole thing but I can do consistant laps now without spinning and my times are coming down reasonably quickly.

Thank you everyone

Thank you mate.

Wow - I only have 15 seconds to "shave off" - lol

I need plenty of practice, I realise. I will heed your advice and head online shortly. Might give it some more practiceover the next week, get my licence and head online

I've been racing Forza on xbox live since it's release so I should be OK online. Just don't know what a new bunch of poeple expect. Most people on Xbox Live have no respect for anyone or anything around them so I expect this experience to be quite different. I'm looking forward to racing with people who know how to race!

I think I will try to get my times down in the XF GTi as you say, I am a pretty impatient person so I may have skipped ahead too far already - lol

PS - I am using the "Easy Race" setting so nicely shared by someone on this site

Ah, that's Kev - lol

I thought I had a user name similar to someone else's.

Now I'm with you
Quote from thisnameistaken :I know! My girlfriend's dad was telling people I was a "good influence" on her the other night in the pub. Makes a change from my ex's dad who told me he could pay $100 to any random bum in the street to break my legs...

So that's why she is your "ex"

LOL, yea, that's Kev and I'm not sure, but I think I know him from quite a while ago. There are many many Kev's here in LFS though I think. A comment on what he said about pulling over at the race start... The easiest way when you are joining in online for the first time is to go to spectate. Then when you see "race starts in 3..." wait for your screen to change, the grid will be setting up, and be ready to join. As soon as you see the cars on the grid, join. That puts you in the final position and no need to pull off incase someone doesn't expect that behind you. I commend you for practicing online as many just jump in a server first thing, but with the attitude I'm seeing so far from you, I'd say get online. That is the best place to learn. You can spectate and watch the faster drivers from their car, join in the back and follow around as well as gaining some experience passing the slowest guys who may be just plain terrible at learning this, and you'll have alot more fun online. A warning though, once you go online if you never played anything online before, you'll never want to play offline again. My buddy is still harping on me to reinstall NR2003 to try out all the mods I never could before on my old PC, but it's inevitable. I think I'll install it, but end up clicking LFS instead every time. Just tonight I have NR2003 CD sitting beside me, a CD full of sound, graphics, track, and AI mods, and the TPTCC and tracks mod ready to throw in the CD Rom, but I came to the forum real quick and will be online shortly in LFS.

Happy Racing!
Thank you for the support mrodgers

I will definately do what you suggest and join after the grid has been set. I would be very interested to see how other people race, even if I'm well off the pace. It would also be a good opportunity to learn the rules etc.

I'd say that XRT @ BL1 - times under 1:35 are enough to get to racing. Just check your mirrors and obey blue flags and they will love you And after making a mistake and hitting someone say "sorry" and they love you again.

well, hmm, that's it...Yeah, check the wr replays at LFSworld to know where to improve Luck!

Quote from thisnameistaken :I should learn the GTRs but the FZR just feels "weird", I can't seem to get a nice neutral balance out of it and because it chugs through fuel the balance seems to change dramatically from lap to lap. The XRR meanwhile - well I never got on with the XR GT or the Turbo much, so I don't suppose I'll get the best out of the XRR. I'd toast the rears too quick.

And I'm not driving the AWD one. It sounds awful.

To get the FZR right takes a lot of time. But once you master it it's one of most predictable cars in LFS. When I first tried the GTRs after I bought the license I was so disappointed. The cars were horrid, no feeling at all. And driving at KY2 with a new car trying to get to know the game and the track (sorry, simulation) was just not right. But the FXR is a good (and slow) way to get into the GTR zone.

Now go drive the friggin' thing

Whoah, it's 4:30 am and I was just driving the MRT which is the worst car ever seen daylight. And it was fun... :]
Thanks Hyperactive

I am used to Xbox Live as I mentioned, do I go and get myself a headphone and microphone set up similar to Live for LFS? Sorry for being such a noob but I haven't had a decent PC since I played Counter Strike when it was first a Beta all those years ago! And then we only typed comments in.

Also, do most people tend to concentrate on a few different cars and/or tracks or does everyone just drive everything everywhere like they do on the xbox?
Dont listen to them . Just go online and have fun. Thats what I do all the time
I got so excited I went and bought my S2 licence

LOL, you only started this thread like 6 hours ago, asking if you should go online, we haven't seen anything stating that you have gone online yet, and you get excited and buy the license. Good for you, you won't be disappointed!

Well, that's an Australia flag you're sporting, isn't it? Occasionally I see some Australians when I'm online, so I hope to see you sometime in the servers. Good luck and happy racing .

make sure to stop by www.arse.org.au and www.australasianleague.com

Thank you mate. I was on there earlier today and registered and had a look around. Looks like a great site for Aussie leagues and the like!

Quote from thisnameistaken :Congrats!

Thank you mate!

Quote from thisnameistaken :LFS doesn't have voice chat built-in, but some hosts run teamspeak servers for voice support. I personally don't use it. You can map a bunch of text chat macros to the F1-F8 keys though, which come in handy for stuff like "Sorry", and "Thanks", and smileys and so on.

That's probably a good thing! It's only ever used to taunt or distract on Live so I like the fact that this isn't a built in feature in LFS.

Quote from thisnameistaken :Some freaks of nature are mega-quick regardless of car and track choice, but I think most normal racers specialise to some extent. You'll probably find a few cars that suit you straight away (well, with an appropriate setup anyway) and a few others that you'd like to drive but are more of a challenge (like the XR Turbo!), and the occasional car-that-cannot-be-driven (tip: it's the LX6)

Nice. There are always freaks like that! Sounds good, I don't have the time to try and specialise in everything, and I'm not one of the previously mentioned "freaks" - lol

Thanks for all your help at this early stage in my career everyone. It's nice to be so well accomodated when you are new to a site

I've had the demo for a few weeks and was always going to buy the licence, I just ended up doing it earlier than I could really afford. But I do that kind of thing all the time!

I'm at work so I've been sitting here all day, unable to play the game and thinking of what it would be like to have all the cars and tracks unlocked. In the end I couldn't help myslef!
Yeh, all the cars and all the tracks... try them offline. Once you race online, it will help you very much to concentrate on 2 or 3 car/track combinations. Also, starting to race online with the smaller (demo) classes will also help, as these are waaaaaay easier to drive than the ones like GTR class. Those are real beasts and you won't learn as much as with a car you got under full control. I personally made the mistake of starting my LSF carreer on FZR, which didn't help. After a while I switched to FOX and now XFG and sometimes UFR, which makes racing very enjoyable and gives nice head2head fights.
Well I'm in love - lol

I only had time to run over 2 different tracks and about half the cars last night but what a buzz!

The V8 open wheeler is fun to steer, as long as you don't use a gear lower than 3rd - lol

Anyway, I'm back into the slower cars till I get my feet which will be quite some time I feel.

I will post a replay of some laps at Blackwood to see what you guys think I can do to get my times down. I'll do this on Saturday, so busy with work!

Ah the good times......
