Government>School censorship abuse!!
I am serious they have blocked everything including but not limited to google images , yahoo images, newegg.com, all forums, all educational sites, some news sites, microsoft word, microsoft paint, everything that is a proram. This is unbelievable they even blocked texas instraments website, please give your opinion.
find a proxy and or hack a teachers acount to turn filtering off. If not your screwed
My opinion is unless it's related to your schoolwork they don't have to allow you access to it. It's not really censorship, it's more like focussing

Censorship? HAHAHAHAHAHAA. You're using their computers and their internet connection, they can do what they want with it and you'll just have to deal. It just sounds like they just went overboard on the blocked sites list.

Why does it matter, anyway? You should be doing schoolwork at school, not surfing the web.

This isn't new, by the way. Let me know when your ISP starts doing stuff like this, that'll be news.
zOMG!!! I can't browse pr0n sites any more during class!!!1!!one!!!
My world is at an end...no more b00bies during History lessons WTF!!!1!!

How about just getting on with WORK and leave the MySpace chat until you get home??
Censorship my arse. It's called education.
Learning at school, fun stuff at home. Simple.
My school blocked web translation sites after I started using Google Translator as a proxy

Any site with proxy in the name/content is also blocked...I now need to set up my home PC as a proxy so I can surf with it from school

At School our internet is filtered, which is a PITA when it breaks (ie decides that Google is dangerous. Or that were a primary school. Or if it decides the whole internet is dangerous. Etc) and even when it "works" it often filters stuff that is perfectly legit.

The ways I get around it is to either use a proxy (hard to find, they always get blocked in the end etc etc), or to use the proxy settings for teacher (to change the filter level all you need to change is the Port you connect to the proxy server with - one port is for primary school, one for middle, one for high, one for teachers and the rest is unfiltered - this got changed and now 99% of people using laptops just use the IP given to the teachers and the port and it's virtually unfiltered.

Filters aren't perfect...
well i have to agree with what is saying tbh, i was in school and every time they sent us to a site to do the work (gave us the addy) it was blocked, one time they turned it up so high that all sites come back as blocked reason: pornography, even when the toned it down a bit it was saying that about any search engine or any site with a search engine, we even tried a bbc kids site(and by kids i mean sorta todler) and because it had a search engine it was blocked, and even worse when searching for clipart in office programs it would only give you 1 clipart which was utterly useless.

but hey thats my rant over lol

all i can say is that education around the world has gone just a bit mental and are past help

but saying that i did get around the problem once by finding a nice unsecured wireless network near the school and i was given special permissin as i am aspergic to have a laptop for school(and used my own)
Even the teachers have to use the filtering...it seems to filter it right where it comes in to the building, all of the access points (2 IT labs, 3 science labs and 3 wireless spots) have the same filtering...

It even manages to block it even if you use the server's IP
I don't really have a problem with it but when BBC News and google as soon as a hit word comes up in your search results it really is pointless.
lol at one of the schools i went to it was even easier to get round cos all you did is ping it in cmd to get the sites ip addy and type that in and it would get past it lol, but that schools it equipment was awful at best, and the supposed it guys were so bad i was often teaching them stuff
It's easy to get around it at my high school, since I know the admin username and password - so I just log in with those instead of my account No program restrictions, no site restrictions, no anything restrictions.
You can use web translators as proxies. Usually the languages to translate to are in the URL it produces - just change it so its translating english into english.

For example, this is the url produced by Babelfish:

http://babelfish.altavista.com ... ntent?lp=en_fr&trurl=

Just change the 'en_fr' bit to 'en_en' and add whatever you want after 'url ='

for example 'http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?lp=en_en&trurl=http://www.lfsforum.net

would get you the lfs forum. I use this to get to loads of blocked sites at work.
Imagine what it must of been like for your Fathers (and MINE!) generation, who didn't even HAVE computers and interwebs in school...we had strange artefacts called "BOOKS" instead!
lol as i always say that is then this is now, things change, get used to it, lol, oh how i look forward to a sentace starting; in my day or when i was you age lol
The fact is that a larger proportion of facts in books than on the internet are liable to be correct (although of course this isn't infallible at all - plenty of books get plenty of stuff wrong, including school text books), so relying on the internet as a primary source of research as most youngsters do these days results in failure.

There was a good example on TenTenths recently. His final year project (can't remember if it was A-Level or Degree) was to design a roll cage for a car. He'd been 'taught' FEA, but learnt it by reading websites rather than attending class, and completely misunderstood what FEA results mean. He though a bigger MAX number meant the part was stiffer, and so wrote that they needed to make the roll cage out of hexagon tube because it's MAX stress was more than round tube.

The teacher listened to his report, took the submission, and then I told him he was looking at it the wrong way around - the FEA program was telling him the hex was closer to failure than round, and hence the one thing he DIDN'T want was hex tube. I think I upset him by telling him this.

Quite frankly the internet is USELESS for learning, but quite good at getting a very very brief oversight, or simply getting everything wrong.

As a systems admin for a school I'll kindly let you into the secret.

It's really an evolutionary learning step that we IT people do to weed out the useless 4/5ths of society.

In the future there will be 3 main groupings,

1 - IT Gods who will be worshiped as superior beings as being the only ones who understand technology.

2 - Your general user who must beg us for anything.

3 - The non IT literate, they can be best compaired to monkeys in the zoo who throw dung at the visitors.

By teaching you at school who is really in charge of society we are giving you the oppertunity to make good career choices.

You may worship me now.

I can sure understand the problem in being a myspace whore, but what's wrong with 'looking at' porn. Don't post when you're in a bad mood.
