This problem started after I installed the Q patch.

When on an online server and the server is either voted to end race or is forced to end by the admin, and we go to the setup screen where track, laps and wind is chosen. The game freezes and about 10 seconds later Im at the select server screen with the message "you've lost connection to the server"

This has happened several times now. 3 times in a row last monday at Nations Cup. Lost connection, logged back on... 5 seconds later, lost connection, logged back on etc.

anyone else experienced this and know how to solve it?

Maybe that happened when someone changed the track. It took so long to delete the textures already in memory, that you timed out from the host. Just click on "join specific game" and that same host should already be filled in for an easy reconnect, without having to find it again in the list of games.

And by the way that's not really a crash. A crash is when windows says "This program LFS.exe has encountered a problem" or whatever.
