Rear-ended
I was thinking... what if we could use other alternatives to solve the problem of being rear-ended by those idiots in turn one. What about something like a bit of tiny AI that detects when a car is going to careen straight ahead and just momentarily makes the car "transparent" so that it just goes through anyone else he might otherwise hit - if just for a second...

...or that could just be a really ridiculous idea.
Gah, don't worry man, you're not the only one that gets really pissed off after being rear-ended even before turn one begins
I'll make three here.

Yep. As the community grows more and more people come from arcade games like the GT? and PGR where bumper cars is the norm.

I would just prefer that you are NOT allowed to use ANY car online until you have passed the test for the car, including the clean overtake art of the test.

I would hate to think what it would be like if these T1 morons were allowed behind the wheel of a real car. Hang on. I live in NZ where you can drive ANY car from the age of 15 without the need for insurance so I already know the answer. The white cross at the side of the road is a NORMAL site here.

Wow, is that really true ?
on topic: Not a very good suggestion imo, but im sure something good could be made if it was thought over a little more. Imo, im sure this could be used as cheating, e.g, the person in last place could follows someones bumper upto a corner, then instead of braking, he just goes through the driver in front, then the one in front of him, and him, and him....

Also, i dont think it would be very realistic.

so its a -1 from me, sorry

I don't think it was actually a serious suggestion?
Brake late, brake wide, and watch your mirrors. If symptoms persist, start at the back
Damn... I thought this was going to be a porn thread

Anyway - the only way to not get hit as much is not be on popular public servers. Try find training servers for leagues, and most drivers are quite sensible.
...Or just join a league

Just buy Rtractor.

From some of the replays i've seen the netcode is so bad you can drive right into the middle of another car before the collision detection kicks in !

As far as LFS is concerned it's not a particularly realistic solution to the problem of numpties/noobs and wreckers.

The problem is if you're in the line of the AI, it doesn't know how to find a way to evade. The AI will slightly touch you and the whole thing is over.

I've never hated some one who isn't real as much as I hate the AI drivers....

??? I have passed all the tests in LFS. Its not that hard to pass clean.

I have raced real cars since 1968 and i have never seen this happen.

I will keep looking and checking but i dont think it will happen in my lifetime.

So maybe i would agree its a ridiculous idea.
The only thing better than being rear-ended is getting hit when you're driving down a straight in a straight line.

Or maybe just implement radiator damage which we already have the engine temperature gauges for. Won't stop them taking you out, but their race is most definitely over too.

Yep I've passed just short of a dozen white crosses today in a mere 180km stretch it astounds me how arrogant alot of road users are in there stuborn belief that the road is thiers to do as they please

now on the light side, just got sent this and it fits sort of

I rear-ended another car this morning.
I tell you, I knew right then and there that it was going to be a REALLY bad day!
The driver got out of the other car, and wouldn't you know it...
He was a DWARF!!
He looked up at me and said "I am NOT Happy!"
So I said, "Well, then, which one ARE you?"
And that's how the fight started.

LMAO. Yea - it wasn't so much of a serious suggestion as much as just a kind of starter to get maybe other ideas going.
Quote from Woz :??? I have passed all the tests in LFS. Its not that hard to pass clean.

It's not that it's hard to pass cleanly, but that the ai simply cannot deal with anything that isn't following the same line as it is. More often than not you get shunted on turn one and spin out only to be shunted once again on the turn after you catch up and overake. The ai doesn't try to avoid collisions with non-ai.

I think they can overtake on straights though.
Quote from DarkTimes :The only thing better than being rear-ended is getting hit when you're driving down a straight in a straight line.

Or, when you get a run on someone and they know your going to pass. So they move into your line, their rear quarter panel connects with your front bumper, they spin and freak out at you...because you were driving straight!

Its down to age. You just don't have the same view on risk and injury as a young teen. The other problem is the law, which gives them access to these cars because you don't need insurance.

In the UK you dont get to drive until 17 and then the legal need for insurance. Try to insure a WRX at 17 and you will be laughed at or charged UKP 20000+/year for insurance. And you can forget being able to get any cover if modified.
Plenty of little death markers between Adelaide & Melbourne too, many with little wreaths and flowers and farewell notes. Hell, they're on every long stretch in the country. And little red ones for non-fatal collisions too. It never ceases to amaze me just how many of our road fatalities occur in broad daylight on straight stretches of road 100km long. I do so many long road trips each year I'm amazed I've not been taken out by some half-asleep idiot/drag-racing hick myself yet.

Interesting thought hadn't occured to me before.

In my day a teen simply couldn't afford such high powered cars, these days it's much too easy to get credit I guess

So making it compulsary to have comprehensive insurance would help prevent the current insanity. Failing that I'm sure the easy credit times we have now want last forever infact I predict less than 2 years

Meh I've thought the same many times...

I know that it was a provision of my finance that my car be comprehensively insured and it's certainly no sports car

You don't need horsepower to kill yourself, though. A proper defensive driving course incorporated into the licensing process would be a good place to start.
