The online racing simulator
Howdy, small suggestion here (mostly, drifters). i'd like to help
Hi all, my first post here so i'll try not to be too loud

I'm very happy with this game, i dont really want more cars, more cars
for the demo or anythin,I'm fine.

I just want more "tunability", yes this has been said a LOT (i've lurked around),
but hold on a minute!

-What im saying is, the option of choosing more rims for cars, and the size,
along with the size of tire sidewall, and maybe width too.
-smoke, yeah.
-small "exterior" apparel, come think of it, painting fake air intakes and all
is starting to get boring on the xr
-uhm, i tought i had more stuff in mind, but i guess thats about it.

Now, I dont want to burden those 3 guys that are making this with
silly ricer stuff, so heres the deal, im willing to make all the rims etc
on my own, and then give them for free, this way, they can make
the LFS physics even better without concentrating too much on ricer
rims stuff

I'd be using 3dsmax, thus exporting them as they like (.obj etc), smoothing
groups, and a max polygon per rim set by them (in rims case).

I was thinking along the lines of 10-15 rims total that all the car can
wear in different sizes. If the rims actually had a weight that affect
it would be awesome (dreaming of individual rims on back-front of car )
Also, if the rims would be skinnable, that would greatly lessen the polycount
and enhance the looks a real lot.
I was also thinking to make a -real- sidewall, no "evoblabla" in white,
just an actual sidewall with writings and all, that would go in the
"plain" wheel of LFS, since its plain, but it has the details it lacks now.

So thats about it, i offer my time, for free, to make this game great, at
least for that portion of players that have to resort to bespoke, lfstweak,
and smoke mod, just to make theyr rides more fidel to the drifters
real counter part.
This kind of stuff would come in handy to a lot of other people, nonetheless

Wow, i typed twice as much as i wanted. but yeah, you get the point.

the best way you can help out the devs right now would be to buy an S2 license, and trust me, you'll be glad you did.

My suggestion, don't just lurk, look a good bit closer. You will see the answer to your suggestion here.
I think your suggestion is inappropriate for LFS (and has been seen a few dozen times before) but I do like the way you asked for it, and it would be nice if all the demo drifters who came here asking for bodykits were as polite as you are.
Yeah, i'm quite planning to win the skinning competition so i buy S1
and upgrade to S2, clever uhm

Either ways,

Can point direction? I did read a lot of bits and bits, coudlnt really find
a thread with someone offering quality 3d work, for free.

--

I'd like to actually know if the developers can make use of 3d exported
meshes, I wouldnt know if they can actually 'implement' them.
Im not asking for bodykits\rims i'm offering to make them, just asking
if they would be used\implementable\accepted ^-^)

cheers

i don't have the links but people have proposed donating everything from wheels to entire tracks (nurburgring for example). i suppose it's not an unreasonable idea (offering to donate features instead of just begging for them) but so far it seems that the devs are focused on the core functionality of the sim, and the bells and whistles wont come until later.
What I meant was, LFS is being developed as a racing simulator, not a ricing or drifting sim. It's nice you can drift because of the realistic physics and all, but drifting and the ricing that comes with it is no where near what the developers have in vision for LFS. Bodykits, "rims" and such are for NFS and has nothing whatsoever to do with LFS.

If you read all the threads about drifting, and suggestions about drifting, you will see where they all end up going. And there is a lot of stuff out there about drifting in LFS.
actually, i wouldn't mind a realistic ricing sim. Especially if it would include realistic repair bills

but LfS is not the right place.
I have to agree with pretty much all of you, but

Yeah, you do have a point when you say "lfs aint about ricing", and i
agree, but i remember reading the LFS developers wanted LFS to
cover a lot (if not all?) the different racing types out there with theyr
game, be it formula 1, drifting, racing, or drag, rally etc

Inspired by that, i tought that while they can work on the game physics
(and other aspects that dont really concern me, such as rally?),
I could help them cover the drifting aspect.

Rims dont only mean ricing, different wheel size means different
tire size, therefore behaviour on the car, weight too, the bumper thing,
thats for ricing, i do agree

So, bottom line is, while the developers cover the physics, i could
cover the "drifting", along others maybe, and help contribute to the game
makin it more appealing for the drifters community (thus more will buy
the game).
While other fellow users that are a lot more into dragging could help making
those big rims\tyres\fake resin body etc that come with the real
drag scene; others again will come ahead for the rally aspect

LFS wont become a "ricing game", it will be a "all around game", but since
we all have to start somewhere, and im here for the drifting aspect,
might aswell give it a shot :P

Sorry if im sounding rude or arrogant or insistent, but its really close
to my heart to get my point accross

cheers

*edit

Sorry for my long posts, i know im far too talktive (and probably repeating )
i'll make a rim tomorrow, just to give it a shot, i wouldnt know the ideal poly count,
nowdays cars have around 10k-30k+ each, i think 350 per rim might be enough
Hello, as promised, i' back with a rim for LFS
It would be availeable to:
XRG,XRT,FXO,RB4,FZ5,RAC,LX4,LX6.
these are the only car that are likey to mount 5 stud.
GTR cars should have theyr own set aside of rims.
Current size is 18", availeability should be 16" 17" 18" only.

It has 580 polies or (since the game engines triangulate meshes) 1110 triangles, needed 7 smoothing groups, but i think i could ease that
to 3, not that it matters anyway haha.
i could save up polygons optimizing mostly the rear part, since the back
spokes are covered with the brake disk - alpha-less image right?
i figure i could drop about 2 hundred polies there (300+ tris)

Im very satisfied with the poly count, this is a very complex rim, and has
many spokes, yet it turned out pretty decent amiright? :>

its textured (512x512), so it either comes in black, or the color i make the texture
for, probably bronzeish, since this with the red lip is the time attack version.

the standard LFS rims, i dont know ho many polies they have,
probably around 350 ish, if not more.

tell me what you think :P cheers

edit. the render isnt using fancy 3dstudio materials or lighting, thats exactly how you will
see the rim ingame.

1. LFSTweak--Requires S2
2. Smokemod-- Search for LFS-Database
3. This guy, who made LFSTweak, can do those kinda things, but not for now.

Way to pelt another demo racer with the 'buy s2' nonsense that people won't stop running their mouths about.

Very nice renders, I have to get back into 3D modeling, I might really take it seriously one day.

pardon?

i didn't pelt him. he asked politely how he could help, and i politely suggested the best way for him to do it. furthermore, if a demo user wants more out of the game, it's already there to be had... in the licensed version. how in the world can you call this "nonsense"?

but of course i realize that you aren't thinking rationally right now and jumped all over my post the first chance you got because you are still sore over something i've said previously about drifters. you can't expect everyone to agree, so just do your thing and suck it up others don't like it.
To be quite honest, i did state that i didnt necessarly need more
tracks or more cars (which is all the content S2 has to offer or am i wrong?),
LFS doesnt have (yet) those things that would make me jump for it,
in a racing environment, i like to drift, but LFS, besides having a great
physics engine, doesnt have the "bells and whistles" that turn me on haha.

Anyways, lets be polite, im just here to talk about new stuff to be
implemented in LFS, which im offering. This would (i bet) be used by
any other user, regardless of how much he bitched about the "ricing stuff".
So in the end its all good its not like i wanted a fifteen feet high rear wing,
or spinners haha.

------------------------

anyways, new rim here, this is a lot less polies than the earlier one,
372 polies or 766 tris, in 3 smoothin groups.
five stud so only usable on :XRG,XRT,FXO,RB4,FZ5,RAC,LX4,LX6

it lacks a bit of depth imo, the "white" thing should be chrome,
and recreating fake chrome that spins along the wheel is very ugly!
i'll try to make it better later on!

cheers

no interest eh? no problem that wont scare me away

Just a question, do the developers read these (suggestion) boards?
if the answer is no, i might aswell mail them.

New rim coming soon btw ! it will be the 5zigen fn01r-c!

-B-

edit. obviously, for licencing issues my guess is that if the developers
accept these submissions, the real brand names will be replaced with "takai".
I like this idea. 3rd party content approved and officially released with proper credit given. Think of it as "folding at home" for LFS. Let the dev team grow and expand to those in the community who know what they're doing while Scavier focuses on the core elements of making LFS what they dream it to be

Only problem with that is..... THE DEV'S DON'T WANT HELP!

It's been suggested time and time again from certain folks in the racing community that they want 3rd party content added with dev support, and been told time and time again that they don't want this.

Byakugan, I can assure you, you are wasting your time. And if you do what you said and email the devs, then you are wasting their time as well. They don't want to develop a drifting/ricing sim. They are too busy developing a racing sim.
Oh so they refuse to get stuff "from outside" regardless of the quality?
thats sort of, understandable, sort of yeah.

Anyways, like i was saying, I kind of grasped that the devs didnt mean
to make this game a ricing sim, i aknowledged that, but they did say
that LFS is supposed to cover all the racing aspects out there.

think of it this way, having rims smoke and a few bodyparts would make
drifting more close to reality, right?
not doing it would be like not giving offroad tires to rally cars because
the normal tires suit just sort of fine already and LFS was never meant
to be a rally sim!

stretch the example a bit obviously ;p

I'd like to make, say, rims for LFS with each rim a set weight, cooling
value for the brakes (more clogged spokes=less air, inward spokes
soak air in etc), i doubt these things are there, the devs could code
them, while theyr 3d modeler makes the tracks (most time consuming),
and i can make all that small apparel like rims wings wipers and whatnot.

doesnt sound half bad does it? ofcourse, there wouldnt be only
18" sized rims for drifters because its not about ricin, there would
be rims for anything, dritft rally racing drag, you name it, and they'd come
in various sizes, too.

I'll mail the devs, saying a "no" in a email doesnt waste theyr time
too much i guess but before that, i have to finish the 5zigen!

cheers

The point got diluted on my talktiveness
bottom line is, this isnt about getting the whistles for drift in LFS, this is about
the devs accepting or not 3rd party (free) work that could spare them,
well, literally buttload of time on that aspect.
Get patch U. Get LFS Tweak for patch U. No go to patch V.
Uhm, im clearly doing this to save the hassle of all the players
to need to revolve on bespoke, smokemod, lfs tweak, and sometimes
meckanick (?) pit to get the experience right.
All of those also require S2 to work, and all of those cant be played
online unless ALL the rest of people are using the same.
kind of retarded, uh?

i dont mind people posting, but if your imput has to be "buy LFS S2",
or "demo racers are a plague" or "use lfs tweak no? it gets the job done,
go get it and uhm smoke mod and shit stupid drifter kiddo"; then
please, astain from posting. ^-^)v

cheers

It's good to see you wanting to help out LFS, but I don't like your chances with the developers. I emailed Scavier about a week ago offering textures for LFS and didn't hear anything back, not even an auto reply! Guess I'm saying- don't hold your breath. ...But good luck anyway.
Dunno, but I will say one thing, I would really like to see changing the design of wheels on the cars in LFS.

Not from what they are now to dub sized wh33lz, but I'd like to see some tasteful options, just to give LFS that little more choice in wheels and tires, like you do in the real world. And in the end, different skins go with different wheels, and in that case, everyone wins.

Win.

I'm back, new rim ^-^)v

turned out more polies than planned, quite a complex rim (couldnt
avoid modeling that outer dent on the spoke really), the result is
a still very decent 593 polies or 1179 tris. on 3 smoothing groups.
Still, afaik, 1100-1500 polies was the limit per-rim about 2-3 years
ago in the racing games. im still around that ratio so its all good.

five stud so only useable on :XRG,XRT,FXO,RB4,FZ5,RAC,LX4,LX6
of course, 16" 17" 18", i'll make a deep dish\rear wheel version
of some of the rims too, dont know which ones yet tough.
depending if having individual rear-front wheels is feasible

cheers

It's great to see enthusiastic members.

If the devs want to make new wheels they will, it's not like it takes very long to make a new wheel.
They have their own 3D modeling software.
Having a choice of rims has been suggested many times and the devs are aware that it has been suggested.

LFS is a racing simulator and it is very unlikely that the devs will cater specifically to drifting when the time could be better spent catering to racing. Not that they have no empathy for other motor sport genres, they do, but LFS is about racing.
These rims arent only for 'drifting', like xcnuse said, they're more like
a "everybody will use them", as there arent really "specific" rims
for drifting

I doubt the devs actually developed a 3d modeling software ..
I'm aware that they are aware of the problem, and i'm happy if they
want to stick with making the physics of LFS better rather than
making "bells and whistles", thats why i'm here, speed up the process
I'm not "catering" LFS towards drifting, i'm simply offering the whole
LFS comunity new choices of rims.
Unless you like, say, the xrt stock rims?

Making a rim takes about 7-8 hours of straight work, depending on X factors.
where 2 hours are for the modeling&optimizing part,
another hour and a half is to make alpha maps and assign smoothing groups.
the rest is spent on texturing, fixing eventual errors and such.

not really as 'fast' as you'd think
