Bootcamp is simply running XP or Vista as the OS, like on a normal PC, so if it's supported by XP/Vista, it will work just like on a normal PC. Thru Parallels and VMWare Fusion, 3d applications struggle, and CPU applications have issues too. LFS is simply unplayable on my iMac thru Virtualization(VMware Fusion/Parallels), but running it in Vista on my iMac (Boot Camp), it runs lovely, like 100 FPS on average.
there you guys have it (again). If LFS would be put to Mac, it would need double work every patch. And therefor it's just not usefull. And additionally you can put bootcamp and run LFS there. Better controller support included....
Vykos, get off your rocker, we're not saying anything about porting LFS to Mac, most of this thread has simply been us discussing how it works on a mac in the various methods, like Virtualization, Wine, and Natively in BootCamp.
Thanks for the info, that's good to know the Bootcamp works better than Parallels. I was thinking trying Parallels with my MacBook, but I think I will skip it and use Bootcamp instead.
But how about hardware such as a Logitech steering wheel...will the FFB through Bootcamp as good as on a Windows PC?

Arg, sorry if this comes across as being harsh toned, but Bootcamp is the same as Dual-Booting XP/Vista and Mac OS X on your Mac, so EVERYTHING!! will work as it does on a Windows PC, becuase at that point in time, your 2000$ Macbook is simply an amazing looking Windows Laptop.

) so now i am pretty much for sure getting an iMac once leapoard comes out, their OS is way better thought out and more pleasant 2 use. Taylor, you probably won't be happy with the onboard graphics of GMA 950, but I 'd be interested myself in multiplayer FPS on a cheap MacBook....
My iMac has a x1600 Mobility, runs Most things I can throw at it on medium to high graphics. If you were to get one, I'd actually wait about 4 months, when the newer ones are coming out, with leopard.
Ellis_dee, the education 17" iMac has a GMA 950, as does the Macbook, Mac Mini. Every other one has a reasonable graphics card.

The only problem I would see with this, it would be extremely slow... You could simply use BootCamp to run Windows on the mac, and it would perform beautifully...

I predict in less than 10 years, there will be no more Macs. Or at best limited production for limited uses. I work in the Graphic arts, the bastion of Apple and still I think this.
My company recently bought a large format printer. It has no support whatsoever for mac. And this is a name brand printer. So that should say something right there.
I also know more than a few customers that are sick to death of wanting detailed drawings from design firms that stubbornly stick with Mac and unable to provide compatible files for the customer beyond an acrobat file. Most customers aren't comp savvy enough or have the software to convert mac files to PC.
And lets face it. Whatever "superiority" Macs had over PCs pretty much ended by 2000.
Personally, I think they ought to put those one button dinosaurs in the closet, right next to the 8-track players and hula hoops.
The other artists in my department use macs. It's fun to watch them navigate thru their comps to get something. And it's even more funnier hearing the IT contractors ask each other, "why do they STILL use those things?"
If you think I'm full of it, then ask yourself why Apple had to resort to intel power. then compare overall sales of that comp to normal PCs. you can even limit the PCs to proprietary comps like Dell or something. Nope. I think for LFS to be made any sort of mac compatible would be a waste of time and at best only attract a handful of potential customers.

I'd post something here about how macs have had 2 button mouse support since long ago, and how Apple's rule, and how you're just a flamebaiter, but I'll save that for a Mac Vs. PC thread, which this isn't. This is meant as a discussion for people who have Intel Macs who wish to run LFS on them. Stop being a prick and flame baiting with this offtopic post.
Dude, you obviously havent done your research. ANYTHING you can use on a pc will work on a mac with bootcamp(included in mac os 10.5 leapoard) and you can have either mac or pc almost instantly on a mac. plus they have a much more user-friendly and easy-to-use interface and they have the iLife suite that comes out of the box on EVERY mac. And then theres the desgn. Take one look at a macbook pro and you'll see what i mean. Taken right of the roswell spacecraft it seems.

FWIW, I installed Bootcamp on my MacBook so i could run IL2 Stormovik, but it wouldn't cooperate. Installed Parallels instead and it runs flawlessly. Overall, I much prefer it to Bootcamp if for no other reason because it doesn't require a complete reboot. I run IL2 in a window right next to the stunning new Apple iWork Numbers application (makes Excel look like VisiCalc by comparison).
But I'm here because I'm trying to run LFS and get a graphics driver error (could not detect suitable screen modes) I'm trying to sort out.
I personally use Hibernation in OSX and Windows, so rebooting isn't much of a problem, so it takes mere seconds to switch.
It's odd that Stormovik would work in Parallels but not Bootcamp, I don't even bother with Parallels and VMware.
