q1 is overkill imo, and he meant to say "increase" the quantizer to get the filesize down oh and he missed adding audio compression as well

I thought that vid is going to show more of those Xvid compression settings...

IMHO no matter how good the original quality of the video is, it's always going to get bit blurry and pixelated after uploading.

What's the recommended mp3 audio codec quality? On the uploading page it isn't mentioned.
tbh unless your vid depends on having awesome music, even 64kbit/s is probably enough

Youtube encodes using the crappy sorensen codec supplied by flash and there is nothing you can do about. You could give youtube HDTV quality and it would make no difference.

"I know cross-compression sucks and the youtube version will look crappy, but what original format and settings give the best result (read: pretty crappy instead of absolute crap)."
