The online racing simulator
I think it's mainly because there is so much vibration in the front (engine), and some drivers take curbs really aggresively there, that it's plausible that the brake "things" (that clamp against the disc face, me bad english) are not completely in the right position, even if it's only 1/1000th of an inch.
That tiny inperfection needs some time to correct itself again when the driver hits the pedal, which means that the car has a f*cked up brake bias (towards the back) for a short while.

That's why they do this, or this is what I was told.
A 'good' brake disc is likely to be slightly imperfect, and these imperfections push the pad away from the disc - perhaps 0.004" is a common disc-pad running clearance. Add to this the throw-back from hitting kerbs (engine vibration won't have any effect) and you could end up with about 0.015" (~0.35mm) disc to pad clearance.
Yeah, engine vibration was stupid thing to say, seeing as there is a suspension between the engine and brakepads

It can also be partly a confidence thing, just to feel if there is brake pressure. I'm sure that there are some racers who just check that if they had a severe crash because of failing brakes.

But thanks tristan for giving some numbers, so we can kinda visualize it more.
Does someone know any sites that have v8 supercar races on them? The site where I downloaded the first 4 races from suddenly doesn't have any seeders anymore, and I'd very much like to see the whole 06 seasons before the 07 season starts.

or did you already mean this site...
Quote from Niels Heusinkveld :I am watching that video daily and yes it DOES appear he's using slicks! That explains the wheelspin in all gears.. Surprisingly controllable though even with wheelspin!

He isn't on slicks, he's on fully treaded wet tyres. I took a screenshot from it (one of the few F1 DVDs I legally own ), it's difficult to see the tread in this low resolution image but it's definitely there. It's a particularly impressive display of driving, of course, but if he were on slicks he'd be in the wall about 2 seconds after leaving the pits.

ripped another vid from a v8 supercar race. This one shows Greg Murphy at work who is a left foot braker (which is rare in v8s) and doesn't use the clutch at all.
This might be useful for people who drive in the higher stcc servers, where throttle blipping has to be done manually.

Thanks for that AMp88.. I sort of reconsidered it myself as it should've been a boat with those conditions and no grooved tyres.

I should get that DVD; car pron is always better at high res
Looks like you have chance to get 2 copyright notices (=video deletions) from youtube. Just got my third one and whole account and all uploaded videos were deleted. Well can't really complain because laws are laws... creating a new account is no problem of course but the previous email address is permanently banned.

Custom designed and built car with a V10 Cosworth F1 engine in the back. Awesome looking machine, saw it back in 2005 although it was only on display. Unfortunately the F1 engine is proving too temperamental and I think he is swapping it for a DTM spec engine.

My Dad knows Graeme fairly well, helped fix up his Hillman Imp after he had a serious accident in it. He had just replaced the camshaft and was testing it out on the public roads when a brake pipe burst as he was heading into a tight corner. The car launched up a banking, flew through the air and landed square in the field. I'm sure he broke the seat (remember this is a race prepared car), seat wasn't designed to take such a load downwards. He was told he may never walk again when in hospital. He still walks with a limp but he has gone on to be double British Hillclimb champion and I think he won the 2003 Goodwood festival of speed.
Graham would say: "Its got some poke!"
Porsches..

That driver seems to agree with me that the proper way to drive a porsche is power oversteer..

And I never saw it look so slow and easy as here, its an older model probably with <300hp..

Now that I'm on a roll, this guy seems to be no Tiff but it looks doable! Note the absolute lack of 'snap back'.

Look! even a posh italian guy can do some of it!

Another, well, it looks like he is about 3 feet tall, or the codriver is a giant, but that wouldn't fit in the car so small people can slide a little too, even in a GT3

I think we saw his fingers before..

Tiff I mentioned him sometime before.. Between the useless 'car vs helicopter' crap you will see some smoke.. and its not from the helicopter!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ao1sfJCEBM

He seems to be clearly the best driver of these vids, together with the german test driver of vid nr 1!
tiff is great but that helicopter..wow that's some awersome skill. And the good thing is it actually follows the track quite nicely instead of cutting every corner.
