Making A Website...
Now i have my own website (or, more precisely, updated it!), it's not some freewebs thingy, its a proper FTP upload one (Jakg.com) - i wanted to Cut out Flickr and use my site to host my photos, and i was wondering what was the best thing to do it in? i was thinking NVU, is there better?
Does NVU have the ability to create a HTML based 'photo album'?

I was always of the impression it was just a general HTML Editor.

You could just make a basic one yourself, but depending on your level of skill, it might not be very functional - all depends on what you want to acheive.

Theres free web gallery scripts out there, I used Coppermine for the skins section of my site, link in my sig.
Take a look at gallery2, if you have a php enabled webserver.
+1 for coppermine!

A web server that supports PHP

PHP = Hypertext Pre-Processor, a language used to create more dynamic sites that what can be acheived with regular HTML. AFAIK, it runs the PHP code on the server, and generates a HTML output, that could be wrong though

Edit: I assume Bean0/Bladerunner are referring to this: http://coppermine-gallery.net/index.php

right. I know what PHP is, and that a server would need to support it, but this is an 8 quid a year, 100 mb account from 1&1, it isn't amazing!

How do i know if i can get coppermine on it then? MySQL + PHP makes my brain hurt!

Upload "test.php".

<?php
echo phpinfo();
?>

If you get plain text output, you've probably not got php enabled. If you get a long html document, ask 1&1 about database use.

can i make that file using notepad? (in the same way you can use notepad to make HTMl files)

i uploaded it - its here, does it work?

EDIT - New link
yup, that's what the test.php should display. It shows all the info and details about the version of php that is installed on your hoster.

ooooo, right then, so if thats all ok, should that make the program work, or do i need to do any more tests?
if you want to run software like Coppermine, which requires a database to store data in, you must check with your hoster to see if they offer database (mysql) access as well. Chances are they offer that as an additional service at an additional fee, but who knows maybe it's already included in their service and you just have to request it. Check with your hoster.
Check this site out, it really helped me, just click on the 'Step by Step' button on the left...
If I could understand it and get a site running, anybody can!
