or
GeForce 7600 GS 256MB AGP
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ ... .asp?Item=N82E16814125039

System is AMD 64 3200
1gb ram
1680x1050 screen

I just don't want to spend too much money. Any others better for the price? I am only using this computer for LFS.

The 6800 would be a better video card then the 7600. Check out this site for comparing video cards.

http://www23.tomshardware.com/ ... ;model2=531&chart=203

Also these video cards would be faster

the x1600pro 512mb is also in that price range.

i dont know which of those three is fastest. i postead thread for you here.

the x800 and x850 dont pixel support shader model 3. but lfs doesnt use those anyways.

i run lfs at 1280x1024 (highest res of my 19inch monitor) and 4xAA 8xAF with x800gto unlocked. sometimes higher.

it will probably be cheaper once the dx10 cards come out in a few weeks... hopefully

Hi, buy a Leadtek GeForce 7600GT AGP. It cost ~ 150€ and it is 15% faster than a GeForce 6800ultra 512MB and it's same as a ATi Radeon x850XT AGP!

I have 7600Gt and is realy graet its faster than 6800( have it before)

Just wait for DX10 cards to come out (VERY soon), DX9 cards will fall in price a LOT
For cards that are about the same price, fastest to slowest

x850xt
x800xt
x800gto
6800 extreme
x1600 xt
x1600 pro
7600 gs

that said, any of these cards will be more than adequate for LFS.

i've got an x1600xt, and i run LFS at 1440x900 with all of the detail settings maxed, and 4xAA and 8xAF, and lowest FPS i've seen was 55fps, at the start of a race with 10 cars. Highest I've seen is 152fps. Average is usually in the 80-120 range, depending on the track.

my computer is a a64 3000, with 1g of Ram, so which ever card you get, you can expect to be pretty close to frame rates i listed.
6800XT
Year: 2005
Codename: NV41
Fabrication Proccess: 110nm
Memory: 256MB
Core Clock: 350 MHz
Memory Clock: 1000MHz
Pixel Pipelines: 8
Fillrate (MT/s): 2600
Memory Bandwidth: 22.4 GB/s
Memory Type: DDR
Memory Interface: 128-bit

7600GS
Year: March 2006
Codename: G73
Fabrication Proccess: 90nm
Memory Size: 256MB
Core Clock: 400 MHz
Memory Clock: 800MHz
Pixel Pipelines: 12
Fillrate (MT/s): 4800
Memory Bandwidth: 12.8 GB/s
Memory Type: DDR2
Memory Interface: 128-bit

The 6800XT is better because of the 7600GS's low Memory Bandwidth, though for AGP, take a look at ATI's cards.

Heres a comparison chart for Nvidia and ATI.

no it isn't, afaik the 7600GS is better, as i take great pleasure in reading this thread on OC.net where someone tries to argue your point while completely ignoring all the facts!
no, the 7600 is not better. why? 2 reasons. the 6800 uses GDDR3, and the 7600 uses GDDR2. How is slower better? Second, the 6800 series is a 256b card, and the 7600 is a 128b card. The wider bandwidth of the 6800 allows for more simultanious transfer of info in one cycle. And as pontiac used to say, wider, is better.

Now, the 6800xt listed in the first post is kind of odd, because it is listed as 128-bit, which according to the nvidia site, it should be 256. if that is the case, stay away from that particular card because they have deviated from the reference design of the card.
Nevermind, the fill rate is almost double aswell, 7600GS is better aswell because it has 12 pipelines, as opposed to 8 for the 6800XT and the memory is DDR2 so that shouldn't be used as a comparison point.
