So to make a better racing line for AI. i thought of this way...
The ai Follows a ordinary racing line to avoid mistakes and crashes like normally. but it doesn't switch lane at all. only you can see then switching on straight's. to make a overtake which they prob won't be able to do. I know AI can't think but there's a way to avoid no overtaking and more better racing.
Instead of One racing line. we need more different racing line and a switching system so the AI can switch the racing line. and if you ask. (But the ai it's gonna drive like crazy. go wide in straight and corners and make dirty switching probably causing a collision.) That's why i thought of this.
1. Racing Line
2. Wide line
3. Defensive line
4. Attacking line
Racing line it's the same as the ordinary one. but more type of racing line
Wide line it's to go wide in a corner. if is to avoid a crash or to overtake.
Defensive line takes the inside and outside of the corners and straight. and that's WHERE a Sensor comes in. if a AI is too close. the AI will go the inside of the straight/corner or the outside. to avoid a overtake and go defensive when coming on to the corner. and of course. the Attacking AI will go to a racing line which give space to the exit/entry and mid corner for the inside/outside line.
Attacking line will go to his same racing line when too close to AI to grab the slipstream. if the other AI does a defensive move. the Attacking line will try to attach to a racing line to overtake in the straight. Or in the corner. or after the exit.
Sensor:
The ai can change line by a sensor which it's not too hard to script one actually.
depending on the line the AI sees. and how close the other AI is. is the lane that the ai will be taking.
Example:
The AI 2 it's getting closer to the leader (AI 1.) the gap reduced to 1.03 to 0.63. because AI 1 was trying to cool down his tire on a more slower and smoother racing line. so the AI 1 will try to be back on a faster Racing line to gain more gap.
Skill System & level:
We can add different racing line to the skills set to the AI driver. with a new system
Instead of the 1-5 AI level. it's going to be
0-20 to be more detailed. but Skill level 20 it's the same as 5 to let you know. no need to find a improvement racing line.
Low levels takes a horrible racing line. make a lot of mistakes. locks up the tires a lot. and crashes out a lot. and it's not a very clean driver.
Mid levels takes a decent line. but still chances to make a mistake. and it's normal to see then crashing out.
HIgh levels takes the best racing line as possible. almost 0 chance to make a mistake. and it's very hard to see them crashing out in a race.
I think a feature like this would've possible for Live For Speed to improve the AI system a lot
