My original dislike stems from the average, amateur drifting crowd/people it draws/I typically run into etc.. who unlike you, many times like to claim it as a proper motorsport. (among other related BS) Obviously that's part of what you've got going for you, that you know it's not. Also yes, I've played around in the snow, dirt & gravel and enjoyed it. If I had any chance of getting into some type of off-road racing, I'm sure I would. Outside of such, no, I'm not interested. (and yes, I find turning platforms with excellent cornering performance from the factory, into drifters, sad)

Quote from kamkorPL :It seems like you must blow off steam by doing the same to others. Does that make you feel better?

..Matrixi is ofcourse trolling with you (me too, with the girlfriend part)..

So what you're saying is we all like to blow off steam by trolling others? Does it make you feel better?

Quote from kamkorPL :..I've always wanted an mx-5 too, the old one with with pop-up lights. It's a great car too. Can't afford to have them all though..

I'd suggest going for a Miata instead of the s13, (because they're mega reliable even when driven hard, as well as relatively cheap to mod, own and maintain), but then I'd be suggesting you disgrace a Miata by turning it into a drifter.

Quote from kamkorPL :..I know what you mean, because that car is popular with "certain" crowd in Poland too..

Beyond my distaste towards drifting to begin with, pretty much every amateur drifter I've ever met or talked to, (the pro's usually have their shit together, like Scrabby here), fit into a similarly unpleasant crowd. Maybe you're a rare breed/don't, in which case my apologies for calling you a dipshit. (but that doesn't change my negative stance towards drifting)

Quote from kamkorPL :..Why are you people so worried about what others will think?

Obviously I'm not, or I'd have turned down one of the best budget-performance cars out there, for fear of twats thinking I'm gay and/or was dumped by their..

Quote from kamkorPL :..Did a drifter steal your girlfriend once or something?

..mom.

Quote from kamkorPL :Wow, where's that coming from? Haven't posted here in a while. Will remember not to do so. I don't remember people being so rude here in the past..

Then you truly haven't been here in awhile . As for where it's coming from, my general distaste for the, "everybody's a drifter" scene.

Quote from kars19 :nah.. with mk1 mx5 u got all the streetcred..

Only punkass kids need "streetcred". (and they've got plenty of autoX/racing cred)

Quote from Torolol :..You only searched half a car, you missed the car..

So your sweet project is an old 4d BMW with a Nissan engine.. why? That's as bastardly as a V8 in an RX-7. (and I've usually built my DD's, except for the FD, not that I've anything against a DD + project)

Good deal Always wished they'd made a 3d hatch variant of those! (would quite possibly update to one from the MX-3 if they had) I've seen a few sweet 2.5L swapped ones that I'd kill to own if I needed the extra doors/cargo space etc. (though a turbo would obviously be the easier route for power, especially considering the B-series mill)

Good deal. Dunno if you're who I was pestering about roll-bar padding previously.. but make sure to get some, because an unpadded rollbar's actually more dangerous than not having a bar at all, in the average crash/most circumstances. (aforementioned dude was too cool to care/thought it looked better without etc :facepalm

Thanks, there're a few "ductail" trunklids out there, (as well as lip spoilers which achieve a similar look), that peek my interest. There's also basically ONE true "spoiler" I've always had my eye on, but that's pretty much it. (will attach a few pics) Actually, I've still got one of the "ductail lips" which never got installed on the last Miata. (primer grey one, that's obviously not yet been bonded to the trunk in the pics) Unsure what I'm gonna do now, but it's definitely no longer on my priority list/I'm not opposed to what I've got. Whatta you think?

As for rust, it's not usually a huge problem here, even in colder climates. 1st gen Miata's DO have one major rust spot/issue which everybody should be aware of though.. the lower rockerpanel area directly in front of the rear fender well. The reason is there's a drain hole that quite often gets clogged, trapping water inside, eventually causing the area to rust from the inside out. My '91 suffered from such, (thanks to my sister having owned the car too long before me ), and is one of a few reasons I wound up selling. (thought I had a pic of the cancer, but guess not)

Finally found/took ownership of a suitable replacement to my late '96 M-edition.. one of 1500 '97 STO's. Shitty Autotrader pic for now, as it literally just arrived! (and a crappy view of dude's personal rig, which I thought looked pretty good) Hoping I can scrounge up enough coin to supercharge this one too, before the end of summer next year. Cosmetically it's really clean/in quite a bit better shape than my '96 was, so at least I don't have to worry about paint & whatnot for awhile. (top's seen better days and will hopefully be replaced sooner than later though)

STO info (other than the paint color & rims, it's minimally different than most other B&T 1.8L 1st gens)

Quote from Matrixi :..Motorex, from what I read, were dodging rules and regulations left and right. Had Nissan gone through with importing an RB26/GTR to the USA by themself, it would have been full of emission devices and the car wouldn't have been what it was designed to be.

You've got this notion that emissions are enough to choke a donkey. I'm sure the higher output tuner/later Skylines couldn't have made their insane power, but according to the article, (in the case of a factory R33), basically all Motorex had to do was put 3 cats in the system to get them passing CA standards. (what that says to me is it wouldn't have taken much more to do emissions right) While unfortunately not having to do with RB26's, my experience with J-spec engines & US emissions equipment, has never proved them to be extremely power robbing either.

As for Motorex dodging rules and regulations, that's exactly what put them under. (as well as literally losing stock, long wait times, blowing extreme money on drugs & women etc, lol) Apparently the first R33's legitimately passed all tests though. The problems came when they simply quit doing the required mods, listing/selling cars as if they had, and the authorities started becoming aware. (at which point the legalization process was further slowed & more issues piled up due to their incompetency as businessmen) Apparently they'd never actually conducted tests on/adapted anything but R33's as well. To save time & money, they simply passed 32's & 34's off as 33's. There was some other extremely ridiculous BS that shed light on their poor business practices/ultimately caused their shutdown, but from what I read, those were the main related points.

I'd imagine if they'd been marketed here, it'd have been basically the same story as most other jap imports of the years.. they'd have been slightly slower and slightly heavier than their J-spec equivalent, though not drastically so. But whatever, I'm done with the topic already, lol.

Quote from Matrixi :There was never a LHD version of the Skyline from the factory, so it wouldn't have been quite that simple..

Uhm, thanks captain obvious. My point was Nissan's the one who made the car such a bitch to get here, not US regulations. They knew the requirements & had they wanted to, could've kept them in mind during design. (they wouldn't have needed any "gentlemens agreement" BS here either, where they have to lie about hp ratings for them to be "legal", lol) That brings us to pretty much the only thing you said of worth, about Japanland having a thing for Japan exclusives. They also love doing super limited runs of stuff. (and I'm not referring solely to automobiles)

As far as emissions, from the article I read about the Motorex scandal, getting them to pass even California's strict standards was pretty easy. According to a detective on the case, the main problem for Skylines in the US, (other than dipshit Hiro Nanahoshi ruining everything), had to do with their low crash protection standards.

Quote from Shotglass :its probably some idiotic protecitivism in as they dont accept equivalent safety standards from other countries to protect their own terrible car industry from imports

Possibly so, but some of the "equivalent standards" aren't really so equal. I'm definitely not siding with the lame laws against them, just sayin.. Also, Nissan could have made US legal versions, like the billions of other cars they've properly sold here over the years, but chose not to. (of course our luck, their means of doing so would be to simply plop a US-approved "truck" engine of sorts in etc :facepalm

There's quite a bit of DOT/safety standards BS etc mixed in as well. I believe when they hit 25y old that part can go out the window though.. if imported cars fall into the classic category the same way that is. (but I could be wrong)

There're complicated loopholes, but prepare to spend mega-bucks. (it's not worth my time or effort to expand on such, so I won't bother) If you're hard up for one, your best bet is simply move to the land down under..

Dennis, that avatar's perfect for your gum-flapping ass - as soon as I see it, I know simply to skip over whatever's to the right!

Yes, we always get the shit engines Scrabby, (both due to emissions & other various lame BS), though things have been getting better in that aspect over the last few years/it's not as bad as it used to be. (of course the cars themselves are going downhill just about every year IMO) For those with the money to make them conform, we do have Skylines. OEM = illegal though.
