Quote from mr_x :the origional Outrun... I think I was about 4 or 5

Me too, but I was about 18 at the time

The first computer racing game I owned was RAC Rally on 5.25" floppy disk and played it on my Amstrad 1640 PC with a VGA colour display and 20MB Hard drive!!! :wow:

<edit> Just reading some of the recent posts it reminded me that I vaguely remember playing Pole Position in the cinema in about '81... along with the original Space Invaders (table top version).

I've just seen this post - I'm a father of a boy (aged 6) and a girl (aged 5).

My little lad struggles to reach the pedals but loves playing (well crashing actually, especially when the car goes into orbit!!). I've given him my old MS SW FF wheel and blocked online play using the firewall until he's older.

The little girl is more interested in dolls!

Live for Speed featured in an article in today's Sunday Times no less!

There's a quote from Scawen and in the printed version, it's the only game with a screenshot too.

Quote from tristancliffe :watch some failed racing driver do two miserable burnouts in a Sauber F1 car (Andy Priloux?)

Oh, isn't he the current World Touring Car champion and occasional F1 test driver? http://www.castrol.com/castrol ... 166&contentId=7016657

Anyway, back OT - I've thought about going to Silverstone several times and never done anything about it - both people I've spoken to about it who've been say it's a must (specifically mentioning the noise and the 'buzz'), but always seems a load of dosh for something that it feels like you'd get a better picture of on TV. Is it worth going?

Shame about the idiots too...

Can you clarify the type of connection you have - is it the 15pin D-type connector (Game port), the USB connector or a Gameport/USB adapter?

I have a MS Sidewinder FF with a Gameport connector on the kids' PC and it works fine. It uses the standard XP drivers and I get 'real' feedback (I assume you've turned the 'Force' light on by pressing the button on the centre of the wheel!!)

I've read that the Gameport/USB adapters don't support FF (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module ... sb%20adapter&doy=23m5) and have seen quite a few topics on Microsoft's Knowledgebase about FF not working with various games - have you tried any other games and successfully got FF?

As for improving your driving - I've recently upgraded to a DFP and I think there's less feeling but it is less 'notchy' than the MS SW FF. My lap times are pretty much the same (perhaps marginally better and slightly more consistent). The major advantage is the pedals don't slip on the carpet and there' plenty of buttons on the wheel (I mainly drive forumla cars so don't use 900degrees Smile)

How do people deal with the drivers who do try to barge through after turn-in?

If you try to leave room, you often end up way off line and loose a lot of time (or even end up off the track) - if you don't leave room, they hit you and you can loose more time or end up off the track?

Well, "This is S2" and "Just Racing" are both fantastic!

How long did it take to put either of those together?

Anyone (like me up until 10 minute ago) who hasn't watched them, really should

Quote from SkyNet :I just wonder how long will this BF1 hysteria last for. I mean, when i go online and check the servers i rarely spot any fox and almost no FO8 servers.

I know. Perhaps this is part of the problem too - if you want to race online at Blackwood, you have little option but to take the BF1.

I don't really enjoy the BF1 (everything happens too fast!!!), can't drive it consistently and still much prefer the FOX. However, that can be a little lonely at the moment....

And bloody 'auto update' on McAfee! (and probably other software too, but McAfee as far as I know doesn't allow you to specify what times auto-updates are permitted)

You can be happily racing around then all hell kicks loose (my PC stutters like mad as well as causing lag to others), just because an update is being downloaded.

There was a post a little while back specifically for the Fox at BLGP.

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=4452

Tristancliffe & AndroidXP gave some great advice - it really helped me to run 1:10s fairly consistently

PS. I just got down to hotlap 1:09:44 last night after the patch and started to tweak the setup

OK then

Quite a few entered more than 8 selections, so they've been excluded... (I'll name & shame if you want ) I noticed that the poll was open way past the end of the race, so I can't tell if anyone posted 'with hindsight'!

Not withstanding those issues, the results are...

Nobody got all 8 right!

BigDave2967 was the only one who got 7 correct (from only 7 selections too), so congrats.

I find Mates@Track II a useful tool - it shows you a similar list of servers to that ingame but you can see who's racing on there without entering the server.

Would you expect AA to make such a difference?
MrGrumpy

I seem suffer quite a big FPS hit when I turn on AA. Without AA I get about 50-60FPS around Blackwood, but when I turn AA to 2x, my FPS falls to about 30-40? Is this what you would expect?

My system is

AGP Radeon 9550 256MB
Athlon XP2000+
512MB RAM

I'm using the Catalyst 6.2 drivers, although had the same problem with the 5.7 version.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Quote from tristancliffe :The setting is in Rendering --> Environment. It's called Automatic Exposure Controls I think

Spot on! Thanks Trist - it was set to Logarithmic which obviously has some strange effects!

Now I've got over that, hopefully I can start some real progress.

Thanks all for your input.

I can't see the setting you mean Trist? The only sort of relevant thing is the aperture - I tried doubling this and it made no difference.

See the attached screenshot with 12 Skylights and 21 Omnis - it's just about light enough, but the colours look horrible??

Thanks for your help so far guys - any further ideas?

I've managed to get the CMX import sussed, and sorted the materials (I think) but I'm having problems rendering. I don't want to buy Brazil and the free version only does tiny renders, so I'm sticking with the standard renderers.

However, I can't get my head round a lighting problem I've got. It seems as though there's some kind of 'exposure' setting which is set way too low (see the attached image). This is using default lighting - see other attached image which is a screenie of some relevant settings (I hope).

I have tried adding other lights manually, but have to set the Intensity Multiplier up into double figures to make the render light enough. Then the colours look awful.

I've been through most of the Discreet tutorials and trawled the tutorials on t'Internet to no avail, so if anyone can shed any light (pardon the pun) on my problem, I'd be very grateful.

Thx.

Bastard. I snorted my coffee up my nose and all over the keyboard reading that

Anyway Richy, I don't agree with you about this community. I've only been hanging around the edges for a couple of months, but have seen plenty of community spirit (except for people with cracked versions - they do get a bit of stick!)
