Summer events

Hi,

We have just completed our winter season and while we take some rest before the next season starts in September we have arranged 5 events over the summer which are open to everyone.

The Gentlemen Drivers Club, or GDC, is a group who take racing serious but do not think winning is the only thing that matters. We have a regular group of drivers who enjoy close racing but would never risk ruining someone else race by risking overtakes that are not 100% on. As a result we have built a club where we all trust our fellow drivers and don't need to drive with one eye constantly in the rear view mirror.

We use the summer events to try to find a few more like minded drivers. We are of mixed pace, all we are looking for is gentlemen drivers who share our values towards racing and see LFS as a simulator and not a game.

If you would like to join us for any of the summer races or would be interested in joining us in September please visit our site and register.

We believe winning is not important but respect for your fellow drivers, both on and off the track is key. We only allow some members to enter our official races, this way all entrants know they can will not be pushed off track by other drivers. We treat LFS as a SIM rather than an arcade game and are only looking for like minded people to join us. The founders of the club used to race in leagues where our values were not considered as important and so they aimed to create a club where respect, maturity and consideration is of great importance to ALL members.

Before we allow new members to join official races we need to see them on the practice server so we get to know them properly. You will also need to enter some of our practice races so we can review how well (clean, respectfully) you drive. We have this system in place so we can ensure our official races are only driven by people we know and trust, it makes for a great racing environment. We list the practice races on the forum so please keep checking.

Thanks,

Hello,

Thanks to everyone who has registered so far. If anyone wishes to race in the 1st event (WE1 / FXR) and hasnt yet registered please do so by Friday evening (5th July) as the server will be set to private on Saturday morning.

Below is an extract from the marshalls guide:

Car :- FXR with 15% Restriction

Qualify :- 10 Minutes

Race :- 50 minutes of racing, this will actually be set as 32 laps for the race as calculated to be about 50 minutes. There will be a mandatory pitstop between laps 11 and 20.

This will be the first off season race this summer, so firstly a welcome to new members of the club who recently signed up, and to longtime members yet to race. Everyone here will make you feel welcome and just be ready to get into some good racing.

During the official seasons there will always be a more detailed guide to the event, but today this is just an introduction to the club.

During the race :- as previously mentioned there is a mandatory pitstop between laps 11 and 20 inclusive. You must stop between these laps. What you choose to do in the stop is the drivers personal choice. You can just stop and go, or add fuel and change tyres. There is no requirement to repair damage during this event, but future races will incorporate this, so keep an eye on the forum and the requirements for each event.

All we require is that a stop is recognised, the rest is up to you. Also you can stop more times if you feel you have to.

As in any race event there are going to be drivers quicker than others, as this is a longer race there maybe a possiblity of drivers finding themselves lapping or being lapped. Remember Gents, the onus is on the lapping car to perform the maneuver cleanly and be patient to get past. Also
the car being lapped must do the best they can, try not to hinder the progress of the overtaking car by allowing a pass when able. However, there will be no messages of BLUE FLAG MOVE!!!! etc tollerated here, the drivers can see the flag. we are about getting closer to a real racing environment and expect lapping cars to be patient and curtious.

Same applies to general overtaking for positions, we are a club who thrives on being clean, so all overtakes should where able be planned and not sudden dives up the inside.

Quote from jmeade :I like the idea and am interested (in fact my team is starting up a charity campaign later this summer also, see the link in my signature...but not to thread-jack...back on topic), but I think you may have more success with a shorter race. I would be willing 2-3-4-5$ to a cause for a 1 or 2 hour race, knowing the money went to a good cause. You may struggle to get teams to commit to a full-on 24 hour race.

That is the boat I am in, interested in helping but not sure If I can get my team comitted and set-up and adequately prepared for a full 24 hour race. You could probably raise just as much money (if not more) with a shorter race, its less commitment for the drivers, less server time, less admin work.

A 24 hour race is a cool idea, I have done them, enjoyed them and want to do more, but it may not be the best route for this cause. You may struggle to get a large entry list and no one wants to do a 24 race with only 5-8 cars, and that may happen.

I really like the idea of racing knowing a charity benefits but I agree with this post, Im sure you'd have a bigger entry list and raise more money if the race was shorter.

Cheers

Quote from lolzol :I don't know where to post this and thought this best fitted here.

I am without a team and know few people from in-game.
Since I mostly just keep to racing and being friendly I don't get to know people in-game that easily. I don't mind this, because I'm not here for friends, just fun racing with anyone.

The problem now is that I know sometimes how to improve, sometimes I don't.
I know my driving in general can be improved a lot easily. But there is no one to teach me.
Sometimes I just ask through the chat if it's something I really want to know or can't see by just spectating.
I also remember me asking in a thread, when I was a huge newb, how to improve. And you guys helped a lot just through this forum.

Might it not be a good idea to have like a "learning session" (workshop ) on track like they do with karting. ie. driving in a train at a slower pace. Spectate the person's driving to see minor flaws or something.

I know most can't be bothered for this, or maybe this is already done in teams. But what about those without a team?
Or more important, what about me?(just kidding)

Hi,

Im a member of the Gentlemen Drivers Club (GDC). We race every 2 weeks but believe winning isnt the most important element of racing. As part of the club we have helped a number of drivers to improve their pace and skills who continue to drive with us now and we would be very happy to help you too. We can also help you understand how to set a car up to suit your style of driving which makes a huge difference to your lap times and overall car control. Please check out our site www.gentlemen-drivers-club.net and if you like what you see register and someone will contact you to arrange a good time to meet on our server. Alternatively just send me a private message here

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Gentlemen Drivers Club (GDC) has just completed its 2nd season. Our 1st season saw just 5 driver entries but we increased this to 10 drivers for the 2nd season. We are now looking to increase this up to 15 drivers for season 3 which will start in March.

Here’s a little info about us…

GDC was created by 3 friends who believe that respect for fellow drivers is key to fostering close, fair and enjoyable racing. We were frustrated by racing in leagues where other competitors believed using our bumpers was an acceptable alternative to their brakes and we knew others out there using LFS felt our frustration. We also recognised that new drivers to LFS or racing sims sometimes felt intimidated joining leagues or servers where faster drivers would rather use their horn to get you out of the way then take the time to provide guidance to help them learn and pick up speed. As a result we have created a friendly and competitive environment for like-minded drivers.

For the official seasons we have so far used FXO, XRT, FZ5 and LX4 with restriction but we may introduce new cars going forward. While these cars may not suit everyone, we’ve found that what they lack in speed they more than make up for with the quality of racing and it also brings the back of the grid closer to the front allowing slower drivers to complete while testing the true overtaking skills of the faster drivers. This season we have had some great battles with well thought out and clean overtakes between drivers but we haven’t had any pointless overtaking moves resulting in ruined races for some drivers. There’s nothing worse than practising during the week just to be taken out at the first corner of the race on the weekend.

If you joined LFS because you wanted to find a simulator, improve your driving and car setup skills and enjoy good racing safe in the knowledge that you’re not going to be pushed off the track by drivers with mental ages in the single digits then GDC could be for you. We can guide you through the software/wheel config, car setup and basic driving skills if you require. If you already have these skills and are experienced LFS drivers, you can join us for a competitive race.

If you joined LFS because you wanted an arcade game where you could jump in a car, race around BL1 in XFG winning by knocking people in front of you into the sand or just don’t believe respecting other drivers is that important then we are not for you

If you would like to find out more please visit our website http://www.gentlemen-drivers-club.net and register.

Hi,

The next race will be held this Sunday 15th January, qualify starts at 18:45 CET.

For this event we wanted to test a new race concept of fixed setups.

We are preparing 3 sets for the XFG and 3 sets for the XRG, these 6 sets will be published on our webiste/forum on saturday 14th morning (CET).

You're encouraged to train with these setups as one of them (for each car) will be determined randomly for the race, all drivers are requested to use it for the race.

On the sunday, at 18:45 (CET), we'll proceed to a dice game to determine wich set couple (XFG/XRG)
* 1-2 => set 1
* 3-4 => set 2
* 5-6 => set 3

The admin will send the selected sets to every driver for a 15min warmup and then qual will start at 19:00 CET

The qualification will be run with the XFG, race 1 will be XFG and race 2 will be XRG.

If you are already registered on the site we'll send you a mail on Saturday morning with the server password and a link to the setups. If your interested in entering the event please register by Friday night. The server will be remain public until Saturday morning.

08/01 : BL1R/FBM - 2x20 laps, r2 reverse grid
15/01 : FE2/XFG+XRG - 12 laps XFG + 12 laps XRG, random setups
29/01 : WE1R/XRR-20% - 20 laps, 1 pit stop
12/02 : AS3R/UFR-15% - 2x10 laps, r2 ballast depends on r1
26/02 : KY2/XFR-15% - 2x12 laps, r2 restriction depends on r1

See you on the track

Hi,

Apologies in advance Im sure a lot of people ask this but Im struggling to get it the 1.34s and seem to be losing most of the time in the 1st sector. I only ever seem to get a 30.6 for the 1st split, 1.08 for the 2nd and 1.35.2 for the 3rd. Ive not been on LFS for long, any ideas why Im losing so much time in the 1st sector?

Thanks
