I understand. I just wanted to make sure you don't underestimate the role of the wheel. I go for enjoyment as well, I'm not that competitive either. I'm fortunate enough to have money to spend on stuff so I usually go for the extra mile .

A good wheel is well worth it in sim use is what E.Reiljans probably meant by the "eww". There's a lot of potential to lose with a bad controller. I have no idea about the actual quality of that Hama wheel (I could speculate though), but I suggest that you get a Driving Force GT eventually. Other than having a toy-ish look and feel, it's an ok wheel with great support and good force feedback.

Also, I think it's cheap to publically look down on demo racers like that. I'm saying this with an S2 licence (so you don't have to check yourself).

Oki, just ordered a GT2 and clubsport pedals. Expecting them to arrive sometime in the second half of February.

But the pedals are still pretty nice, and the force feedback is great. The gas an brake pedals DO in fact feel like a real car (tested on a ford explorer).

Some real car yes, but what we're looking for is a a race car's feeling. I've found that brake pedals on regular cars are usually rather sensitive for their mass. Can't say you're wrong though...

It says on Thomas' blog that new GT2 orders are going to be shipped in the middle of February. Now that isn't a problem for me and I'm probably going to order the wheel and pedals seperately to make sure I get the wheel itself on time (I interpreted that they're having production trouble specifically with CS Pedals rather than GT2). I have DFP pedals around so I can still drive using those. And when the pedals arrive... it's the feeling of getting something new all over again

What do you guys think?

Quote from E.Reiljans :Alienware would be better example tbh.

Except Alienware have no taste.

On the subject of tablets, Galaxy tab seems useless to me compared to the iPad, but it's good that Google's going places with Android rather than sitting on their asses. It has got tons of little problems, just like the iOS I might add. But still iOS is more mature as a product and in this case control has proven to be king.

People who still think this new wave of tablets is anything like a convertible laptop from 2002... well basically shave off a lot of thickness, give it an excellent battery life, utilize a way better touch OS and so on. These are NOTHING like convertibles. I tried a friend's HP 2740p (or something like that) and while it was well made for a Windows laptop and its touch was working ok, it's just not the same thing. It does have its uses, don't get me wrong. Or in many ways it actually has a use rather than just being fun.

I own an iPad and I think while it can't do everything a netbook can with its ports and full Windows, it does everything it can so much better than a netbook that I never use my laptop anymore (not even a netbook that one).

Oi by the way. What's this about laptops being a gimmick? It was an exciting feature at the time, but a good laptop still has its uses. You know one with actual battery life and not some Alienware gaming scrap. That, enough power and proper human interface devices, unlike a netbook.

I almost forgot I was on the internet when I saw this thread. This is definitely the internet. Comedy goldmine.

Having said that I think klutch's girlfriend looks cute.

Well, now it seems they have removed both clubsport editions from their store. Both GT3 and GT2 Clubsport editions. I wonder why? I still have one GT2 Clubsport Edition in my cart though, but I doubt my order would go through if I did checkout a "non-existant" product . Then again it's just a bundle so it might. I think the only saving there is you get carbon paddles for free... so I guess it doesn't even matter if I just bought them separately. I think this whole thing implies that they are having massive trouble actually producing those darned pedals.

I wish it was payday already, cause I want to order as soon as possible. The line is getting longer each day... I want my wheel for next christmas :mr-t:

True. I probably should buy a drill anyways...

I might buy Fanatec's clubsport clamp after all. It has got adjustable angle and its shifter holder looks sturdier, things I hadn't really noticed before.

I wonder when I'll get my wheel if I order it on the 15th (payday)... Might have to wait for another batch .

For that kind of money and without a bundled shifter, it has to be really good, because otherwise you could just get a Fanatec GT2 instead. And that one's compatible with Xbox 360 (which I realize isn't a problem for everyone), not to mention a shifter. But I do like the way it spins like anything else and looks rugged too so yeah it has got something going for it.

Well unfortunately I don't own a drill . After adding the cost of a cheapo drill, the price sets closer to Fanatec's clamp.

But yes the looks were probably my main concern. Thanks for telling me though .

Yeah. It's painful, but on the other hand it does need some extra development, I think (firmware, Xbox wireless stuff and dynamic button icons that actually change depeding on the system you're using). And who knows how much Microsoft's controller license costs... Maybe there isn't one for force feedback wheels, but rather they had to meet up for a contract or something? We probably have Microsoft to blame for most of the cost :P.

Actually I'm not a diy guy so my choice would be the clubsport clamp. I guess I could buy one later on if the stock one isn't good enough for me. It's not like they're running out of them.

Quote from Bose321 :You got a thick desk there! I just got of bed just to test this for you. The clamp mechanism can slide out, to go on a 5CM thick desk and beyond, that wouldn't be a problem. Yes there is some movement, but I don't notice it at all while racing, and I never heard anyone else complain about it (it's very small IMO).
The GT2 is pretty much the same, only with Xbox360 compatibility, and shifters included (correct me if I'm wrong).

And yeah, I was drooling too when I discovered the GT3 RS, I love flashy colors.

Well thank you for testing it out so quickly ! Browsing the LFS forums in your sleep? I like it! Might do that with ma iPad later.

Yeah it's thick, but that's the way I like 'em. Err...

Good to know it works and I bet there's nothing a bit of some thin rubber mat won't fix. Duct tape could be a last resort too.

The shifter is included so that's like 50 euros more in value. I think everything else in between the two models (120 euros or so) is just for the Xbox mode.

I had a discussion with my mates about racing wheels today and I noticed Fanatec didn't sell the Turbo S anymore. That's when I was told about the new GT2 model. I've been drooling all over it on the internet since. The Turbo S didn't look all that great and I'd imagine the lack of that nice alcantra material is a big one. I've never had any problems with my DFP's cheap rubber like material though.

I browsed and searched for a GT2 thread, but couldn't find one so I decided I might just post on here since it's nearly the same as GT3, if that's ok.

I realize this is effectively the same wheel as GT3, but I sort of want the added Xbox compatibility. Also I'm not a fan of the orange case on the GT3, although that's really not a deal breaker (lol). I'm after a shifter too so I guess I wouldn't be paying that much extra for just owning an Xbox. FYI I'm looking at the Clubsport edition, because I absolutely fell in love with the CB pedals this time around (I was looking at the Turbo S wheel before Forza 3 came out and couldn't be bothered with the Clubsport pedals).

I do have a couple of questions though. I have a desktop table that's 5 cm thick. Will the stock quick clamp work? Also is there anything you could do to fix that slight rocking/play on the clamp? I read the front end of the device lifts up a bit and I'm pretty sure that might irritate me. But I'm not happy about paying an extra 40 euros to get the minimum clamping functionality you'd expect from a bundle this expensive. Basically any McGyver-like fix is ok to me, e.g. adding a notebook (yes a real notebook, not a laptop :detective) under the front end to give it a bit pre-tension or kill possible play if you will.

Other than that, I'm all over the idea of a "fat", belt-driven wheel and those excellent pedals. Like I sort of said before, I've got a Driving Force Pro at the moment and I've had it for six years now. It's loud, it's slow, it feels jaggy and basically I could use a clutch and shifter.

Hi!

I bought an S2 license about three months ago (if I recall correctly), but haven't really had the time to play LFS since. So I thought I should finally have my first post on here and this thread is a logical choice .

I've been into rFactor and other sims before, but not that much into online racing. For my money LFS has got the best feeling physics engine and also the most promising one (although I do realize the ongoing update halt...).

So since I'm new to online racing, I'd like to say that I prefer doing things right these days. Winning is winning, but playing fair and correctly is more rewarding .
