onboard drift - fanatec csr mod

Has been AGES since i played LFS, still has the most responsive FFB that ive encountered, and simple easy to get into and out game.

Recently setup 3 screens, so went and tried to practice on my drifting a bit with my rig.

criticisms welcomed, i know i need to improve!

Quote from krugmander :That's a nice setup. Is that the chilicoke adapter?

Thanks, its actually derekspearedesigns adapter. Using this temporarily until i finish modding my fanatec csr to accept aftermarket wheels.

Could be your technique, might help to post a video of how your trying to drift.

i have FFB enabled and my wheel certainly doesnt stop in the center, and that doesnt happen in real life either.

so if you post a video, might be easier to see the issue happen doing figure 8s and showing us how it stops mid transition.

You can try to go straight and do a handbrake turn, and let go of the wheel after you turn in, it just stops in the center?
ive uploaded a video of myself showing how mine behaves. is it similar?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... rFK4&feature=youtu.be

like everyone says, sorry for the crappy video capture, just did the quickly, but you can see after i let go the wheel countersteers to the left after i try turning right.

Since the thread is asking about setups, ill share mine.
I am using a g27 at 900degrees with 100 ffb (and pretty much everything else at 100.
I havent bothered tweaking them yet, so i dont even know if this is optimal.
ingame ffb is set at 90.

I just went though finding something, and I did something similar to ACCAkut,
I went by home depot and picked up a 7 dollar clamp. Clamped it to the side of my desk at the height i wanted and the metal bar that sticks out, thats where my shifter goes. Has worked pretty well for me. Under harder driving, Ill add a small stool or some support under it so i dont feel like im going to snap the metal if i try to shift hard or go in reverse.

just to let you know about the samsung 226bw, i was in the market for a new 22inch LCD screen too for a while. I came across the 226bw but found out that recent models have started using a different panel which (according to the majority of users) are mcuh more inferior to the original panels. theres a long discussion over at hard forums on this
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1144130
probably towards the middle to end of the thread youll see a lot of talk about S panel (the original) and the A panel thats being used now and how most people are returning their A panels trying to get a S panel or just cant deal with the A panel.
typical samsung and their care for the consumer =(

btw i got a tottally different monitor. an acer XL112WD (some sort of model number like that lol) i personally can see how it isnt the best, but hey i think it looks great and does work well for what i use it for. your needs may be different. (x360, websurfing, dual monitor with laptop for extra video edting space.)

hm so can you point me to some good motherboards to look at? or what i should be looking for in a motherboard? most of the guides ive seen talk about gettin a motherboard thats compatible with the processor and ram and video card, and overclocking rather than going into specefics details. whether or not i want sli or not or have enough ports or open pci slots for all my devices. going by that the 650 seemed fine also based on reviews seemed fine, i wasnt sure if the 680i was worth the extra money since in terms of performance (from like the 2 reviews i read) are identical, besides the extra ports and some options. the PSU i deffinelity plan to upgrade in the future (unless i can find the money now) as i know prices will be coming down, and im not looking for al the greatest peices of equipment that require other great equipment just yet.
i am also trying to keep the system build around 1000 so thats also a factor.

Ive been hearing mix things about the 680i, i know its great and an improvement over the 650, but i also heard about some bios problems, (which might be resolved already) and reviews that seem to ponder if the 680 is worth the extra 100 or so dollars (us),and im also not a terribly crazy overclocking or one who messes with the bios really. As long as it works and it works well,(i might think about overclocking though )
i actually DONT want SLI, at least not now, ive read a few articles about it and dont see the worth in SLI just yet. but i want the option open.

Yeah and i do have few extra devices besides the neccessary, as for a harddrive, i have a firewire external which i plan to use for storage space (and my video editing) and my laptop hard drive space, This computer will mostly have games and some editing software. i dont think i will need the extra space internally just yet.

one thing i was planning on was triyng to keep the cost around a thousand (monitor seperately) this build is actual a configured build over at www.cyberpowerpc.com the infinity 7500, originally i planned to build my own, and i came across this computer review in a magazine. it had some really good specs for the price and was almost identical to what i was looking for (the 8800 gts video card, and 2.4 ghz cpu) for under a thousand. building these parts seperately on new egg came to around 1200-1400, so im still contemplating on how i should go about gettin this system running.
two of my biggest concerns has been with the motherboard and power supply. as this would be my first computer build and these are the two most unsure of areas for me (and the case and proper cooling, though i think i can understand most of that)
New Build, question

im Planning on either building my own comp or ordering one. the specs i plan to buy are

CASE: HOT NEW! X-Discovery Mid-Tower Case 420W W/ WINDOW & LCD Temperature Display (Silver Color)CPU: (Sckt775)Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6600 CPU @ 2.4GHz 1066FSB 2x2MB L2 Cache EM64T
MOTHERBOARD: (Quad-Core Supports) Asus P5N-E nForce 650i SLI Chipset LGA775 FSB1333 DDR2 Mainboard
MEMORY: (Req.DDR2 MainBoard)1GB (2x512MB) PC6400 DDR2/800 Dual Channel Memory (Corsair Value Select or Major Brand)
VIDEO CARD: NEW!!! NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB 16X PCI Express (Major Brand Powered by NVIDIA)
VIDEO CARD 2: NONE
LCD Monitor: NONE
HARD DRIVE: Single Hard Drive (320GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM HDD)
Data Hard Drive: NONE
Optical Drive: Sony Q170A 18x Double Layer Dual Format DVD+-R/+-RW + CD-R/RW Drive (BLACK COLOR)

what i was wondering was the PSU, will 420 be enough? or will i need a bigger PSU? i plan on upgading in the future so i dont want to go to extravengent on the PSU price when i will probably do that later down the road when i get better hardware.

Anyone seriously interested in this game? just wondering because it seems that i can give free guest passes, was roaming around and noticed the price of WoW dropped so i check my account (that is frozen cause i havent played in a while) and said i can give 10 day guest passes out, if anyone is seriously interested in one, give me an email ([email protected]) or a pm or leave a reply wiht your email.
note: i do believe you will need a credit card to sign up, which will not be billed at all and after the 10 days they freeze your account and then give the option if you want to use the credit card or not. not sure though, my friend said he needed a CC to sign up for his guest pass but they never did anything with it, dont know if times changed

oh so, there is a patch for the ghostcar mod to have the ghost car be the wr replay?i didnt know
i always thought the ghost car mod just made a ghost of YOUR previous lap.
racing against WR
immense
S2 licensed
Not sure if this has been mentioned (prolly has, but didnt find anything on it) but it would be nice imo to be able to download replays/hotlaps/wr and race in them,
like download the WR for X track and X car then try to race against them. either as having the replay as ghost car or something,
and i believe the ghostcar mod doesnt do this.
what do you guys think?

io have a ps2->USB convervteer. just make sure you get a good one that has good feedback. some dont last long, or arent compatible with lots of steering wheels /dance mats (DDR was what got me to buy a ps2 to usb box.)

personally, i have the EMS2 USB and it is holding up, but now its not being detected randomly, this is usually solved (for me) by unplugging and plugging it back in the usb slot a few times.

and if you get it to work, it works just like any other game controller for the pc

what exactly is after effects used for? is it like animations and special effects? or can you also video edit (like you would in premier?) or does premier have more depth in the video editing aspect and after effects are more just for the few speciial animations/effects?

Quote from NotAnIllusion :Almost any popular compressing software can do that, including Winzip and WinRAR (probably their free equivalents too, but I can't say from experience).

Get a WinRAR trial, right-click on the file(s) you want compressed and split and select 'Add to Archive'. In the bottom left enter an amount in the 'split to volumes, bytes' field.

Thank you very much for the quick relpy, i never knew i can do that, i always thought add to archive and those programs were mainly compression tools, and thought you needed something more to be able to split them up.
thanks again!
Splititn files?

not iso specifically but any files.
