Quote from Fonnybone :A vote for LFS is a vote against deadline-driven faceless global companies buying each other until they merge into this one big ugly entity sucking the life out of us. Forget about technical support. Just format, reinstall or buy a better PC. With this comes
compromises many are not willing to live with. Many have gotten used (or were simply not alive before that..) to this instant
society where you can blame others for your impatience. That's a shame really, because many of us can asure you, happyness
doesnt come from instant gratification.

So, all these "evil faceless global companies" include those two or three italians that make up the whole company of Kunos Simulazioni which actually makes THE best sim out there right now? Have you seen the cost of netKar pro? Let me tell you, it's even cheaper than LFS, and it's light years ahead in tyre modelling, sounds, graphics, you name it... And yes, those 3 guys not only keep on developing, but have promised for Christmas 2 new cars, one new track, and rain! All this coupled to the best physics you have ever seen, very nice graphics but playable on even old pc's and sounds that rock... Oh, and the ability to add community made tracks, which means REAL WORLD TRACKS (how many of those are in LFS? 0? )
Or maybe the HUGE company of ISI, the makers of rFactor, and now rFactor 2 which is coming soon and will once again set the benchmark in simulators? The only sim that applies to your rule is iRacing, and then again, they deliver a product that is perfect from any angle (at least in its current version) so you get what you pay for...
So, those excuses that LFS is cheap, LFS has a small dev team and LFS is personalised friendly community don't suffice anymore and what's more they are not excuses for the ancient sim that LFS has now become.
I mean come on, we know tyre physics never end getting better, but what about the DX8 graphics engine? The painfully awful sound engine? The painfully obsolete and fictional content that hasn't been updated for 2+ years?
All those people moaning have no right to, since no-one promised on-time updates and in regular intervals as iRacing does. You buy S2 as it is, and maybe you'll get an update, maybe you won't. But I really can't read ONE more person supporting LFS because "it's just one guy working" or "it's cheap" etc. Others did MUCH better with less money or smaller teams so please just realise LFS is obsolete and more than 3 years behind in technology than ANY other sim right now and live with it. You like it? Good, keep on driving the XRT or whatever. You don't like it? There are PERFECTLY good sims out there so stop whining.
I personally stopped driving in LFS seriously at least 2 years ago and never came back, although it does make me sad to see one of the sims dying
Even if the patch came out today, LFS would still feel aged as hell and obsolete, even if the nice physics (i don't want to say the best because we don't know if it would be better than nkPro, iRacing or rFactor2) kept some of the interest alive.

Hi there
I thought I should start this in here because my friend and team leader migf1 being quite modest actually buried this masterpiece he just finished among other videos of highlights from the 2010 Unofficial Mini Champ we organize. He started this particular video started aiming to show the final race of the championship highlights and it ended up being one of the best (if not THE best) LFS video ever made in Greece.
So I think it deserves a separate mention here. Enjoy one of the most hair-raising videos (the commentary is actually from the live TV broadcast we had during each race)

Update:
I contacted them again directly at their greek office and they were happy to send a G27 as replacement, even covered the postage costs! I am waiting for it either tomorrow or the next day, I'll report what happens. Seems like they are pretty unmatchable in terms of customer service after all

Quote from aobrien :Had the same problem and got on to logitech and they sent me a G27.. Today I was bored, opened it up and cleaned it and works 100%

Obviously different support center there and different approach to customer satisfaction

OK, update on my problems. After Logitech didn't return my e-mails, I called them today to share my problem, and they said since I am inside the warranty period I should contact the reseller for defects check and if found faulty then refund (and not replace with a G27 because the G27 is 30 euros more expensive than the receipt I have for the G25...)
So, it's not like they are throwing G27's away like that after all. I am not very happy now, since I have to travel 100 kilometres (that's where the nearest retailer is) and 100 driving back home, with the fuel costs at 1,6 euros/litre just to let them check my G25 which they might even reject from being faulty since the spiking is something minor and the pedals are working as far as a bad tempered technician is concerned.

Unlucky use of quoting in my previous message made it look like I was reffering to you in particular, which is of course NOT the case. I was just making a point for everyone thinking about taking advantage of such a great customer care. Then it would simply stop and that would be bad for all of us

Yes I DO have damaged G25 with spikes at the gas pedal and I would like to get it changed. IF you all start thinking like that then people with real problems like me will not get what they are entitled to. That is why I hope they will want my old one shipped back

Quote from JasonJ :ahhh?, so you don't have to send a picture of a destroyed G25 no more? Like with all the cables cut and what not?

This shows how much profit they be making on a g25. Probably costs them 10 pound to make and sell 'em for 100

Where's the sense in all this? I technically voided my warranty because I took apart my pedals to 'clean' the unit thus saving them shipping me a new G27. Yet now technically I'm not entitled to a replacement if something blows up major in the main wheel unit because I did them a favour?

You can't tell I 'cleaned' the pedals as the screws for the unit are intact and look like new, but technically I voided it. Weird company.

Can't say I'm not jealous RichUK, I wouldn't mind a free G27 and still keep my G25. I only need one at home - it would look good at the office in the IT dept. and make for some good 'team building' sessions. Or I could just tell the boss that windows updates required some 'drivers' so we're just working on that.

That's exactly why I will not bother cleaning it, since Logitech themselves don't want me to, by voiding the warranty. I already sent them my PID's etc through the online support page and now waiting for response. Even if they want me to ship it back I will not mind, as long as they pay for the shipping and I don't have to buy pot cleaners etc.
Thumbs up for their customer care. I always buy everything from Logitech and I will continue to do so

Quote from rich uk :My pedals stopped working on my G25 the other week. got my confirmation email from Logitech today saying that my replacement G27 has just been shipped and shall be with me soon. So if I don't like the feel of the G27 I can put the new shiny pedals onto my G25

Sorry for asking but they shipped another unit just by hearing you say the G25 is broken? You didn't have to send the G25 back?

My first G25 was fine for almost 2 full years until the shifter broke. The new replacement just started spiking today at full throttle, I get spikes at 100% with the throttle cutting off a little bit and jumping like I hit a rev limiter...
Anyway, it's still in warranty but it doesn't do it all the time so I can't quite convince the ignorant idiots at the store it actually has a problem What can I do without voiding the warranty?

Lol thanx for the heads up, I hadn't noticed that :P Although I think the clock was more useful, it was showing the computer's real time so you knew if it was late once again
Quote from hrtburnout :What the...

I just drove the LX6, and I noticed a moving oil pressure gauge.

update: I am right! It used to be a clock

There are soooo many things missing in LFS right now with the development work almost stopped to a halt and you need a "metallic" colour? Let's see some real tyres first and worry about colours afterwards (with this ancient DX8 graphics engine what do you need the colours anyway)

Quote from t1ger :Hi Makinen,

The behaviour of First|Lenhert is only punishable if we can determine two things:

1. If it was First|Lenhert that caused the race to restart.

2. It is was done on purpose in order to stop someone completing a lap.

With the replay from the server, we can check (1), however, it is our word against his/hers as to if it was deliberate or not. Therefore, unfortunately, I do not believe there is any punishment that we can give out.

Also, we can not give you the credit for a lap that you have not done, no matter what the circumstances (which includes the Insim app crashing).

What I can do, to try to stop this happening in future, is programming into the LFSQual insim app the functionality to watch for restart requests and cancel them immediately. At this moment in time, I am not sure if this is entirely possible, but I will check and report back here. (most likely after this race weekend, as this is a busy weekend for me).

I hope this goes someway to help.

Thanks
Tim

As I wrote, there were the two of us in the server at the moment, and yes, it can be cross-checked from the server logs. Right now of course I can't take my lap back or anything so at least a bit of justice for me would be some mechanism that would prevent future mistakes or "mistakes" from happening... Users voting in the qual server should be forbidden from now on (and I can't really say he did it on purpose but still, I can't say the opposite too)

I would like to report the unacceptable behaviour of First|Lenhert who restarted the session while I was qualifying and just a few meters before completing a fast lap. This should not go unpunished and I would like to know what is the appropriate course of action for me from now on since I probably lost a very good lap and a few places in the starting grid...

Has anyone kept the pool 2 mpr of this race? If so, can he upload it somewhere and post the link here for me? It would be extremely helpful for the race report I'm writing (unfortunately I missed it from the OLFSL website).
Thanks a lot in advance

Not much to say about VSync and input lag anyone?
Makinen

Has anyone else noticed that with VSync on there is input lag? I got an 8800GTX and a Core2Duo 6600 @ 3,4 ghz machine so FPS wise I'm pretty much covered with LFS. But when I enable VSync, I got noticeable input lag (I turn the wheel and the wheel in-game doesn't respond immediately but with a little delay). I have this problem with my current G25 and my older Momo and with different vga's (I had an 8800GTS 640 back then)

Can anyone tell me which is the file for the visor on the helmet?? I have made a helmet with my face in it and the visor remains black and ruins everything:@ Also, I guess the "correct" transparent visor that I want won't be visible to other drivers when they download my helmet skin, correct?

Being a long-time huge Top Gear fan myself, I really liked the fact you knew how to capture the essence of the TV show and make it visible in the game, for example the camera angles, the filters that make the colours look like in the show etc... The video is just perfect, and I really can't find a single flaw. But most of all I liked the fact you "understood" what Top Gear is all about. 11/10 and keep your masterpieces coming. You are an advertisement for LFS, your videos are the first thing I show to someone asking me "wtf is that LFS about"

I use manual clutch and shifts with a G25 in road cars only. In GTR class and UFR/XFR and alla single seaters, I use auto clutch and sequential gears, since they are supposed to be like that in real life too. I think these cars (and especially GTRs and single seaters) should allow clutchless shifting even with manual clutch enabled, since they are supposed to use sequential gearboxes...
P.S. I use left foot brake and rev up for downshifting without a clutch in road cars, but I have the foot ready for clutch too, if the gear isn't selected after all. A little bit risky, especially with some cars which need the revs matched exactly before they take the gear in.
