Thanks! That worked.

Racer X NZ. No Australasian servers that I can see. But my ping isn't too bad. The netcode seems to be able to handle it.

What are all the Australasian's racing these days? I just like the pick up racing in LFS.

Hello All,

Long time no race! I've recently started racing again every now and then. It's great!

But, at least once a session LFS minimises and I return to the desktop. It seems to be if there is an alert from the Action Centre.

I'm using Windows 7 x64

Any help or advice would be great! It's not good to accidentally crash or take someone out because of this. Frown

I had to comment here, sorry I just couldn't resist.

Ian, if copies of 3dsmax, were rare and unique, and I was physically stealing, and stopping the previous owner of using it. I wouldn't steal it...

If I could make an exact copy of my friends ferrari, no harm done to his or anyone elses... and just drive it to learn how to race better... and then buy my own once I want to enter the 'ferrari challenge' or some such series, then hrmm, that's starting to push the boundaries of my morals and ethics. But that's a silly sort of metaphor anyway, because that's why we race simulators eh? :P

It's more like stealing a ferrari, to put your toy model ferrari inside, and take pictures of it... Because 3dsmax is quite a powerful program, capable of much more than rendering a 3d model.

Hrmm, or, is it like stealing S2, just so you can take screenshots of LFS cars that aren't in the demo version? Now, that makes me think.

But would anyone really feel comfortable charging someone else a large some of money to take/use a 'copy' (read: copy meaning, not depriving anyone else of it) of their software and use 0.000001% of it's potential?

"Sure kid, here's your newspaper for $2, enjoy reading the comic section" Whch by the way, is down to half a page in our local tabloid! Shocking I know! Half a page out of say, 100? My god, 0.5%? 1cent? Just photocopy the comic section for him gov'ner!

Quote :The Autodesk suggested retail price for 3ds Max 9 software is US $3495

How many paper rounds is that sam? Do without buddy. Deprive yourself of your dreams, which may otherwise have been fulfilled. And let only the rich develop their true potential!

Sam, I hope you learn how to do some cool renders!

People use torrent sites everyday, I dont really care how illegal it is, you don't see the police and the goverment trying to shut these sites down do you.

No doubt they do.. how many do you see trying to validate their reasons publicly?

Maybe... 1% of the world's population owning 40% of the worlds wealth is having something to do with it? And the other %60 percent can't afford to buy everything they "want", but we do live in a product driven world. It's hard to expect people not to steal, when what's shoved in their face everyday is "You need this, BUY IT", "You need that, BUY IT". Especially when the people shoving it in your face could buy your (that's a hypothetical 'your') life 100 times over. Maybe Mr. Autodesk can give one of his ferrari's to you guys to share? I'm sure it's just pocket change to him.

Hah, typing this out made me think, wouldn't a GNU/GPL licensed car be funny? Sure, use whatever you want, just make sure you don't say it's yours and sell it for profit! "Here's your copy!"

I'm going to regret pressing enter on this post, aren't I? So, feel free to delete it, and/or ignore it.

Quote from Victor Vance :So im guessing as a S1 licence holder i can't join in any of these racers, that blows.

For another $30 you can come join us!

It's well worth it. Definately the best LFS racing I've ever had.

I tried a search, but couldn't find any results on 'Throttle Help', so this is the issue I seem to be having:

After hot lapping with W21, I uploaded my SPR to LFS World and noticed that it reported I was using 'Throttle Help'. I do not have throttle blip on downshift selected, and I am using a manual clutch with a shifter (So no throttle cut on upshift option is available). I don't see anywhere I would of selected any throttle help.

I've taken some screenshots of LFS World, the Hot Lap in question, as well as a previous hotlap with the same settings. (Different Cars/Tracks)

Is this a W21 issue? Or have I somehow selected a driving aid? I seem to remember my previous hotlap for this combo (W17) did not report Throttle Help.

Thanks.

Quote from Ian.H :Lose 95% of the echo and they'll all sound 200% better (this obviously doesn't strictly relate to just engine sounds). Trees do not sound like echo chambers

More environment sounds are needed.. rumble strips are a _must_ but it'd also be nice to hear under-chassis noises like loose stones in the wheel arches which get more intense as you drive off the tarmac etc.

I can't really say much more about the engine sounds in particular as they're just drowned out by an echo effect even after adjusting the header etc tones. Lose the fake echo around the tracks and I'd be able to give a better opinion (FWIW) on the rest of them

Regards,

Ian

Agreed on all points. Especially:

Hello DaveWS, nice sound adjustment by the way.

My comment doesn't relate specifically to adjusting sounds but this seems like a good place to post my thoughts.

In some cars (UFR? for example) the gear whine seems to loop badly. It's not a constant whine. The sound will 'pop' or 'jump' rythmically. I'm not sure if my explanation makes sense.

Is this how the gear whine of a real GTR styled mini would sound? Or is this an error in the sound reproduction?

Hope this helps improve LFS!

Thanks.

Hello,

I think a useful filter for the LFS Racers Search would be to toggle the display of users that are online only. Then you can join the server they are on, and race against someone that matches your search criteria straight away!

Thanks

Thanks steve, that targa looks good. Maybe a little too tight for something I'd like to do in real life!!! :jawdrop: (I don't own enough pairs of underwear )

Who pays for the damage if a competitor goes through a house!?!

I'm really hoping Scawen, Victor and Eric have the same passion for Rallies and Targa's as we do!

Hey guys been trying to find some onboard video's of the events mentioned earlier.

Mt Buller Sprint:

Ford XA GT Coupe: (Think Mad Max... )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXLO11xpn2s The placement of the camera is a bit off, but it's a great video to watch.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElbKV-7SGto Shorter video of SS8 sped up with some music over the top (Nice start )

Edit Picture of a Ford XA GT Coupe

A quite boring spectator's point of view video (8= minutes)
http://dabble.com/node/10197172

It was easier to find Traga Tasmania videos

Targa Tasmania:

Jim Richards Porsche 911:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ua5o6ozTj1Y

Davenport Day 1 2007 (Looks and sounds like a Nissan Skyline R32 GTR?):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6e_BRpTe_o

Classic Adelaide: (Hankster's Backyard :razz

Porsche 356 vs Ferrari Dino (When watching, remember they aren't playing with cheap plastic cars :schwitz
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pj_C7ejUZE

There are heaps more videos floating around on You Tube, I'll have to try and get a copy of a friends video of his mates porsche 911 at the Mt Buller sprint!

If there was something like this in LFS.... mmmm. But they don't have to be exact replica's of these routes. Something containing the same essence... tight twisting corners, crowded forrest atmosphere, providing a thrill in the battle to be the fastest to the top!

I'll corss my fingers and keep dreaming in anticipation of such a great track or tracks in LFS. I hope Scavier have a look at these videos .

Excellent idea evilgeek. I hadn’t thought of dividing it up if the complete track is too long. The stages could be used as short sprint races, and if desired the full track could be used for those wanting a greater challenge in focus and endurance! J
Your suggestion is like the Targa Tasmania. Several stages over several days.
Maybe the stages could even be done sequentially in online races. When one race ends, and everyone votes to restart it could go to the next stage? It’s just an idea anyway.

I can see it now, a winding tarmac road going uphill, with tall gum trees lining the side of the road on both sides, the drop to the left ever increasing in height the higher you climb, the tree line slowly changes from soaring gums into Alpine Ash and fernery.

We can all dream

I really like the idea of point to point tracks, and believe the addition of such a track could increase the longevity of the game.

A good example of point to point racing is of course WRC.

But the point to point racing I'm really interested in and would love to see could be something similar to the great point to point style racing here in Australia. Such as;

Mt. Buller Sprint:
Web site: http://www.mtbullersprint.com
Course Map: http://www.mtbullersprint.com/ ... f/MtBullerTouristRoad.pdf

Targa Tasmania:
Web Site: http://www.targa.org.au/
Course Map: http://www.targa.org.au/images ... ps/2007%20State%20Map.jpg
Detailed Maps: http://www.targa.org.au/Course/2007_Course/index.php

Targa Tasmania started this week by the way!

The racing could be done as in events such as these, with individual racers starting at set time intervals, say 10 or 20 seconds (It's minutes in real life I believe?). And if you catch up? Race clean, just as in a real Rally!
Times could be displayed as normal finishing times are done, and spectate until all the racers have finished, start again. Or just pit and run again? Just like a huge time trial session.
Or head to head races? (A la test drive 2! HAHAHA! )

I belive this would only benifit a sim of such high calibre (In terms of physics/On-line racing/community) as LFS. Drawing another segment of the market towards the sim.

Hopefully this comment is appreciated by the community, as my search on 'Mountain' tracks proved to bring up some threads with quite heated discussions! So if I am repeating anything, just note it as my enthusiasm for racing on courses such as these. (I decided to post in this thread as it most seemed to suit the what I wanted to contribute to, an idea for new tracks).
