I think gog.com would be good option to consider ase well now that they have the Galaxy client as well. I believe cost of using this service is much less for the game developers than Steam.

Quote from edge3147 :@Bigbob1993, If you can't exceed 100 FPS on LFS you need new hardware.

Rubbish, we all know that humans cannot see more than 30 FPS, "To find out more about why 30fps is sometimes the best option, check out our dedicated article that addresses the topic directly - do higher frame-rates always mean better gameplay?."
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-the-case-for-30fps-pc-gaming

EDIT: I'll reply the below here....

Well, the article is good, but your statement is direct contradict to the article. Humans can see vay above 30 FPS easily. They way human eye perceives different frefresh rates changes varies. But everyone can notice the difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS quite easily. Heres some more reading for you on this matter.

http://accidentalscientist.com/2014/12/why-movies-look-weird-at-48fps-and-games-are-better-at-60fps-and-the-uncanny-valley.html

And in case of car simulations, FPS above ~41 can realy help the gameplay.

That might be. But I was unable to find the correct setting to adjust which would resolve the issue. Well, I have to keep looking the settings tomorrow.
XR GTR orientation incorrect with Oculus Rift DK2

This week I've been testing my brand new Oculus Rift DK2. LFS seems to work very well with it. However, I've noticed that when the position tracking sensor/camera is not in the center, the camera in XR GTR car is not centeret correctly. Menus and every other car I've tested (including XR GT and XR GT Trubo) works OK. The problem seems to be only with the XR GTR. Is there some setting that I've missed, or is it a bug in the game?

Can't wait to see some results. But then again, I've already waited quite long time, so maybe it's just an exrepssion Smile

As a non topic related thing, I just want to express my thanks to Scawen for the Oculus Rift support. I just received my DK2 this week and I have to say, that the Rift support in LFS is a prime example how it should be done. I can't even put it to words how much I appreciate the work you have put on this. The result is just fantastic. Smile

Quote from CarlLefrancois :it makes you wonder what we could actually achieve with all our knowledge and available effort, if only we had something worthwhile to work toward.

First of all we can't do too much. We can onyl affect the people around us and help them mostly. But this issue is global and world is in different development stages in different places. So the people who haven't got this far are still going to learn these things in future.

this has all been going downhill since getting food every day has gotten effortless for us lucky ones. now our main goal is entertainment.

It's not that simple IMO. Sure getting the food is quite easy for most of us with the first world "problems". We can still evolve and try to pursue towards the happiness. That's the point in life nowadays because most of the mandatory needs are mostly secured for many of us (not all of course). One part of the happiness is the possibility to enjoy entertainment, but mostly it comes inside of us. If you are not threatened by anyone, mostly what keeps you unhappy is yourself. If you are unhappy or suffer from something, you might think it's the fault of somebody (yourself or someone else) and wan't to revenge it.
When you learn to be happy, the happines will spread around you. And your kids might not see a need to do harm for others either.

Interesting points you are all making. I think nowadays being a good parrent, requires different skills than couple of decades a go due to Internet. Widely spread internet and online sosial activities are taking much time from the real world face-to-face social "practise". The online sosial events are not transmitting peoples emotions from who you are dealing with like what happens in face-to-face situation. Internet makes it possible to do stuff where you don't need to face the consequence same way, because you won't see the other person to whom you might be doing some harm. This doesn't make anyone a bad person, but more like keeps them ignorant. This might be prevented by parrents if they would explaining what the other person might be feeling in such situation. But usually parrents aren't aware of the childs activities in the internet which is one of the many problems.
But the world is what it is, and us the adults need to just bear with this situation and try to do everything we can to make the world better place for everyone. Help other adults to take good care of their kids and make sure they guide the kids to learn these much needed sosial skills.

I too was quite a geek during my childhood (and of course I'm still). I too was using BBSs before the Internet age, but I newer realy learned to hack very well. I did some programming and made music and graphics, but that was then. After some point I started to be more sosially active, and found pretty good balanse with these matters. Sure I shared all illegal games, software and so on. But I mostly was just a user. Nowadays I am a software developer and try to pay the stuff I'm using. But still I haven't given up all the illegal data sharing and still every now and then I try games before I decide to by them. Still I know that I'm doing something wrong by using illegal software, video and music, but It's hard to know what is good enough and worth paying for. I can't buy everything that I see and what looks interesting in the pictures. Marketting material is usually so badly misleading, and IMO it's very often unusable for decision making.

(I wonder where this topic migt lead to )

This human psychology is very interesting topic and it's kind of a sad that it's not very well known, or people don't care about it. Even for me it was complete mystery more than 30 years untill I was pushed into a corner with myself and was forced to start thinkin why I feel so bad while there was basically no need for it. That was the key for me where I started to learn these things. I wanted to know how I could be more happy in general.
I've learnt that people have always a reason to behave like they do and almost all of the behavior models are quite simple. People are very similar even though most of us believe that we are so different.
The behavior model for these kids that do DDos for example is mostly the same. It's a lack of adult guidance basically. Kids are a lone in the Internet and they interact with other kids and even adults who behave like kids. They get bullied through the net and they are alone in there, because parents usually won't know about this and can't help them or guide them and explain what's happening. When a child get bullied and no adult is defending him, he thinks it's OK to bully others and you are allowed to enjoy it as long as you don't get caught. And who is there to catch them from doing this? Nobody. This causes the never ending bullying cycle, untill someone gets caught to some authority (like police or parrents) and they get to face they actions. Untill then they won't understand the consept of responsibility from this particular harmfull thing they are doing. After the consept of responsibility start grow in them, they stop doing it.
This similar thing works almost for everything when kids or even adults who behave like kids are doing something wrong. They are doing it because they haven't been cathed from it and they haven't had to bear responsibility from their doings.
After being caught, if they still keep doing it, then we are talking about much more serious issues than just little bullying.
Anyway. We only need to act like adults and try to get these kids to understand that what they are doing is wrong and harmfull. There's no need to judge them from beeing kids, but the cause and effect needs to be explained to them.

Quote from Pablo Donoso :The future of any successful venture is to expand and grow, without that it is impossible for anything to advance. I don't understand why LFS has such a great system and doesn't have more people on a programmer's level that are allowed to develop for LFS and distribute the workload amongst each other.

Rome was not built in a day, and it sure as heck wasn't built with 2 or 3 people. In that same sense, LFS as great as it is should consider taking on more developers.

And we can all see what's happened to Rome. Maybe it's not always such a good idea to expand and grow. Advancement can be achieved as long as there's at least one person doing something with a vision and goal. We just need to be more patience. These things should not be forced.

Quote from Scawen :It's just a test of the installer. I think most people run the test in a new place then uninstall it again. No-one needs to install this unless they want to test the installer, which many people have done and that has been very helpful because it seems all the problems have been resolved (other than that we are not yet conforming to the way MS would like developers to save application data and user data in different places on the hard drive to allow multiple users to share application data and to allow free roaming - which is a programming project and not simply a matter of choosing a default install location).

I would like to point out that Unix based operating systems have had almost similar way of saving user data and application data in separate folders quite a bit longer than Windows. After using those system for years now, I can see the benefits that kegetys pointed out already much more clearly.

Quote from BigPeBe :+ RBR's gravel physics are way much better than what we have in LFS. LFS is great on paved roads, but RallyX physics aren't really that good, car doesn't feel so "connected" to the road and everything is too smooth and easy.

I woldn't say that RBR's gravel physics are much better because there aren't any good ways to compare RBR and LFS. Both have different kind of cars, tyres and tracks.
And I'm not so sure about the connected to the road effect how it should be. When I have driven a real car on gravel, in 100 km/h it doesn't feel to be connected to the road depending how loose the gravel is.
So at this point I couldn't realy say which would be better RBR or LFS at simulating rally driving. Untill we get some comparable rally cars and tracks to the LFS, there no much point of speculating which is better at simulating rally driving.

I just drove 5 laps with XFG in BL2 using G25. It realy feels like the clutch is slightly too weak for the rally course. I think it shoudn't overheat so easily although I can't say if clutch in real car would do so in similar situation. I would prefer to have stronger clutch in XFG.
How should this situation to be resolved? Just learn to drive more carefuly?

Quote from Bladerunner :In any case, back to the clutch issue...last night we were racing LX4's at SO Chicane reversed over 5 laps, and people were having major problems keeping the clutches from overheating. Admittedly, among these people having trouble were a bunch of n00bs from a team called Afri Cola Racing (acr) [just kidding about the n00b bit guys! ]..My point is, if THESE guys are having problems, what chance have the others got??

Very good chanche. All they have to do is to practise driving with the car that has clutch heating modelled. Just like they have done so far practising driving without overheating clutch. Just like when the first car damage physics came in.

I think new feature development times are geting longer. When more physics are added, it takes longer to implement them because many of the physical effects are connected to each other somehow. For example when adding snow road surface, all the tires have to be adjusted to work on that. When snow tires are added, they have to be adjusted to work on dry tarmac and other surfaces also. So the work is geting harder all the time something is added. Or at least I think so, because that's how things usually work with software development.

That's right. I bet some WRC cars have 400 bhp or more. If the intake limitter would be removed, more than 500 bhp would be no problem at all.
