Quote from buck77 :what would be a good race lap time for each car, please????

i think im too slow...
id like to compare my time!!

THX!

WR hotlap in the FXO @ AS Cadet is approx 56.?? seconds. 103% of that (approx 57-58 seconds) will be a good race pace if you can be consistent with those times. Not sure about the other cars.

Quote from Timdpr :You two got tangled up and I thought I was going to come out of it ahead until me and either you or him turned into each other! The guy I collided with waited up for me IIRC which was nice of him. (Even though the incedent was probably 50-50 :razz I can't remember which one of you it was, but what was 'your' opinion?

That was me! I was trying to make room for Bingo and ended up not leaving room for you I guess. I felt bad about spinning you out so I waited for you

If I'm not on LFS, then I'm on rfactor. And vice versa. Since I've discovered simracing, all of my other 'games' have been uninstalled.

Quote from hyntty :Remind me again, which part of the "lfs is not a racing simulator but a silly unrealistic game" -statement is not deliberate provocation?

To be fair, the adjectives 'silly' and 'unrealistic' were not used. The statement was simply "LFS is a game... rFactor is a simulator"

Quote : LiveForSpeed is a game. Anyone can control slides etc. rFactor is a simulator.

In a later post he also said that LFS isn't bad (or even WORSE than rfactor for that matter), he just thinks that rfactor is MORE realistic.

Quote :Both are good and I'm not saying that lfs is worse than rFactor, it just isn't as realistic and flexible as rFactor

Two weeks ago I would have disagreed, saying that LFS is definately the better simulator, head and shoulders above rfactor. However, after downloading the BMW E90 mod with realfeel and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, I can definately understand why someone would believe rfactor to be the more realistic sim.

Quote from Speed Soro :That is exactly right.

While LFS demo is exactly what the game is, rF demo is much less than the full game.

It is a heavy mistake from the rF developers, because you can't expect that a new user will realize the need of dl and install mods to get a decent experience.

They should dispose a better content for the demo, so their sales would grow up.

Agreed. The mod I added made the experience WAY BETTER than the demo. Not everyone is stupid enough to purchase a program that they tested for 45 minutes and hated. (like me)

It took me 3 installs and 2 downloads to like rFactor.
First install, I played 30 minutes of the 60 minute demo and decided.... "This game is f***ing GARBAGE!" Uninstalled pronto.
I started reading threads like this (this one and threads on other forums) and decided to give it a second chance. This time I got 15 minutes into the 30 remaining minutes and again... "WTF! GARBAGE!!!" Uninstalled again and deleted installer.
After re-reading some of the good points about rFactor (ie MODS) on this thread, I decided to give it a third go. I downloaded rfactor lite and installed it again, except this time I actually purchased the license and downloaded the WTCC BMW E90 v1.03 mod (includes real feel plugin) and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. My reaction... WOW! rFactor really is MUCH better with mods. In fact, with this mod, I actually prefer it over LFS... the feel of it anyway. I prefer LFS when it comes to racing online, as finding a 'pick up' race on rfactor is a giant clusterf**k... (Have to have the right version of the mod and right version of the track). Also, LFS World is awesome, and to my knowledge there is nothing like that for rFactor. Both sims have their pros and cons, and I'll be putting in virtual seat time in both.
Moral of the story... rFactor demo is GARBAGE!

Quote from aceracer :I don't really understand how people can get bored with the content. Maybe I'm too old and slow, but I still haven't mastered any combo fully and I've been at this for 1.5 years now. Give me a car/track and 4 racers more or less my speed and I don't care where I race or how often I've done it.

So frankly, I think people just have short attention spans. I prefer to be good at 1 combo rather than crap at 15.

How many combos are you within .5 secs of the WR?

I think LFS is for dedicated racers. If you are 2 secs away from the WR and already looking for new tracks and cars maybe you're just not serious enough about it...

aceracer

P.S.: Yes I know this doesn't apply to everyone, and yes there are very very fast drivers out there who also get bored with LFS, but I would estimate that 90% is due to goldfishlike attention span with NFS tendencies

+1

I've only been on LFS for a short while and have already seen way too much complaining about lack of content. I guess I can kinda see how people who have been on LFS since the beginning may be bored, but for a newbie the current content is nearly overwhelming if you really think about it. On the surface it seems like there are only 7 tracks, but with all the different variations and reversals, there are really 50 tracks (not including autocross)! Combine that with 20 cars and that's nearly 1000 different combos (I say nearly because there are cars that aren't suited for rallycross...) Sure, many of the combos are very similar, but as aceracer said, How many are you within .5 sec of WR?
Adding more content/mods may attract previous LFS racers to return, but I doubt it would do much to attract new racers to LFS. To a new LFS racer (a reasonable person who doesn't have the attention span of a goldfish), there is plenty of content as is.

Quote from The Very End :Problem with that is that every man will be for themself and create shitload of topics. Just the drifters and cruisers allone would most likely spam the main forum with 50 topics each day
But if we can manage to just have few topics, like "servers online today" (obvious one for cruisers, one for drifters and one for the rest) , we could get a closer community I think, and get it all a little more structured.

Why not have a new sub forum opened up for the purpose of organizing 'pick up' races (as well as one for drift and one for cruise... if need be)? Perhaps there could be a standard topic title format so people can locate a pick up race quickly... i.e. "TBO's @ KY2, March 3rd @ 19:00 UTC"... Inside the post could be the server/host info

Quote from AlienT. :Grid is without doubt one of the most disapointing games I have had the misfortune to install on my hard drive. I'm sure it's fine on a console but the PC version is just horrible the handling, graphics, control interface, ffb is pants The women in the garage has a sexy voice that's all it has going for it.

+1..

It isn't much better on console either IMO. I rented Grid for xbox360 one night after reading several glowing reviews about it. I played it for about 20 minutes (enough for 2 races) and couldn't stand to play it for 1 more second. I took it back to the rental store that same night...

Quote from Intrepid :Thank god the DEVS haven't over developed the graphics otherwise they would drastically limit how many people can play the sim How many other sims can run 32 cars on 1 track, on a basic comp without MAJOR slow down?. IMO LFS's main benefit is it's lack of graphical updates!

Better physics YES please, but better graphics... i couldn't give a f%^k!

+1

IMO, the graphics are fine just how they are. Keep the Developers focused on updating/improving physics and adding tracks and cars.

This has probably been mentioned several times before, but it seems to me that the most effective (perhaps ONLY) way to attract more serious racers to this sim is by promoting it to people who are interested in real life motorsports. Most 'gamers' wont really be intertested because as a game, LFS is behind the times. However, most people who have a real interest in motorsports will get hooked on LFS because of the feel and the physics.

I discovered LFS on the North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club forum in a post someone made about getting involved in wheel to wheel racing. People were commenting about how costly it can be just to get much needed seat time, and a few people brought up the idea of 'virtual' seat time via LFS or iRacing! This instantly appealed to me as I have an interest in one day getting involved in real life wheel to wheel racing, but I don't have the resources to get any real life seat time, but 'virtual' seat time could be a good, relatively inexpensive way to learn some of the concepts of racing until I can.

After I started using LFS, I talked to some of the people I play with on Midnight Club Los Angeles (xboxlive) about it, but most of them are gamers and not really motorsports enthusiasts, and were not interested.

In other words, this sim needs to be promoted on motorsports related forums and groups, not on other games.

I purchased the DFGT recently and I like it very much. Bought it on sale for $107 at Best Buy. Logitech recently released the PC driver for the DFGT (as explained in other threads) so all the buttons work perfectly.

In my short experience, I've found that you need to be faster than the AI on PRO (with a given car on a given track) before you'll be competitive online.
Example... I have been practicing BL GP with the XFR with AI on PRO, and they typically run 1:20's with an occassional 1:19. I've got my time down to a fairly consistent 1:18 - 1:19, but the world record with this combo is 1:14, and I've checked the stats of a few racer's who have personal bests in the 1:16 to 1:17 range...
It is still good to go online and atleast spectate and/or follow so that you can see the fastest lines with a given combo.

Hi. I first heard about LFS about a week and a half ago (from researching iRacing)... downloaded the demo about a week ago (and rFactor, which got deleted), and purchased S2 about 2 days ago. Now I just need a FFB wheel (I use a xbox360 gamepad... suxs) and some practice and I'll be ready to really compete. Head 2 Head Racing looks like an awesome series to get involved in. See ya on the track!
