What we need is Finland's stages for some real speeds! Did I Say That?

Al wanted little hotlap challenge last night, so here's my entry and ended up being wr even with those few errors.

P.S. little slower car this time to not stress out viewers! Big grin

Quote from Hyperactive :What does "feature complete" mean anyways?

Wikipedia:
Quote :A feature complete version of a software is an advance version, which contains all intended functionality of the final version, but is not yet final due to bugs, performance or stability issues.

Usually a feature complete software still has to undergo testing and bug fixing, as well as performance or stability enhancing before it can go to release candidate, and finally gold status.

One thing I want to add and this isn't pointed at anyone. Just my general view..

Is the 'Early access'. It was great move from Steam to start offering that, but same time it made it way too easy for people to get into alphas/betas to see the development progress. By that I mean, every time new build is released.. People tend to take it and treat it like it would be the very final version. And I don't mean AC alone now, but any popular Early access games there are. Most of the time, this generates unnecessary negative reputation for game inside the community. Constructive criticism and feedback of course is what devs are asking, but it hardly never goes to that by majority just saying how game sucks a** before it's even finished

Early access, alpha, beta, whatever you want to call it.. One thing always remains same: At the end of the day we are testers of unfinished product. People tend to completely forget that LFS, rF2, PCARS, AC, all same. What comes to "hype" these days. It's bit in funny state with Early access titles. While devs try to make their products look as good as they possible can or just show features for "look what we can do", same time their latest alpha/beta build is already completely destroyed by "critics" on forums saying how horrible it is when they are only testing early version of it

Lets take a short example. Those of you who seen the development of PCARS from the very first alpha build, knows how much things can change even in matter of only one week. For example car physics, week #1 'car A' drives like dream, week #2 it's totally broken, week #3 it handles like something the model isn't showing and on week #4 being once again totally different animal

What my main point is, lets not make final verdicts of something which isn't in very final version/build yet. Nukes costing a lot and sending them for no reason drives anyone to bankruptcy

And to make it clear, I'm not pointing fingers towards anyone nor taking sides of anything with this post. Just my point of view to current state of "Early access" development and how it's taken by public.

What comes to this 1.0 RC patch, my biggest concern atm is just the old car mods needing new sounds for FMOD

Hold your horses you two!

Here's something from VirtualR.net's comments where this very same DK2 issue came up:

Quote from aristotelis @VirtualR :
We hear you, but we would hear you better on our support forums which are dedicated for this kind of requests and other bugs. We're also pretty active in there.

That said, we only received our DK2 a couple of weeks ago. I'm sure our devs could use feedback and work on it. RC means the feature is in (it was important for our timeline to include it even at this state). RC doesn't mean that the features stay as they are, improvements and additions will continue

To me that says, they know it's not quite "there" yet. But they had to add it in it's current state to have the feature in 1.0 and need to patch it in future. End of story.

I lol'd to having Noctua even in T500, I like your quality standards

Yep, you get a cup beer holder with the base. There are plastic floor guards on the beams under the seat, you can just stick some ordinary floor protector pads underneath the front rails if needed. I've been meaning to get a custom carpet made for the whole sim rig, but haven't got around to it yet.

If you do buy one, I recommend tossing the poorly made assembly manual in the trash and going by these videos instead, they're much more helpful.

And gotta go with Noctua. The stock fan is a joke in comparison.

To be honest.. Cup beer holder sealed the deal.

Hopefully in few months sorting income stuff (waiting call atm).. Loads of it matters for next year

For Noctua T500.. Stock fan looks like something with 9k rpm's "I work 2 hours until 70db"

Obuttos in Europe ship from Portugal, so there's no VAT or customs costs on top of the purchase price + shipping. I bought mine in two stages, the base Revolution was around 750€ shipped, then I got the accessories like tabletops and triple mounts etc which raised the final frame cost to around 1K€.

It's totally worth it though. I had a Playseat Evolution before, but it was an uncomfortable flimsy toy compared to the Obutto.

I'm still sort of tempted to go for triple monitors as the Oculus DK2 FOV isn't the greatest out there. Then again not being able to get that 3D depth with standard monitors just feels dull after getting used to the 3D depth that VR gives you. I've been keeping this photo album updated as the sim rig build has been progressing throughout the year.

Oh thought it would be more with these stupid Finnish laws. For once, gotta love EU eh

That definitely looks like it's all worth the money. What comes to flimsy feeling on Playseats.. Imagine how it was with full metal ECCI wheel..

Guess that's all before next big upgrade once we get rid of this "i7" generation in 2012 :riceboy:

Back then things were looking like this

Full album

But later on the seat started to become real back killer and whole rig was taking so much space, that it was time to pack it all away and go back to simpler single pc setup.

In 2012 one of the three Viewsonics literally blew up with smoke and sparks and thought it was time to give proper update to whole 'desktop' at once. Blown up Viewsonic got replaced by Dell U2711 and old small table got replaced by bigger one, leading on look like this:

Full album

Also the QX9650 started to show it's age with two Radeon 5870's and it was time to give full upgrade to pc too:

MB: Asus Sabertooth X79
CPU: Intel Core i7 3930k
RAM: 32GB of G.Skill Ribjaws X CL7
Cooling: Phanteks PH-TC14PE-BL
Case: Xigmatek Elysium

However budget didn't allow to finish this build at that point and GPU's stayed same. Until 6 months later on release of Asus 7970 Matrix.

At the end of 2013 both Viewsonic's got replaced by Benq XL2420T Rev 2.0 144hz monitor to get more space on table:

In February 2014 7970 got paired with Asus 280X DCII TOP to give more raw crunch to cryptocurrency mining. However 5 years of heavy overlocking and benchmarking, PSU didn't like this 24/7 100% load anymore and gave up taking both GPU's with it PSU got replaced by Corsair AX760i and since 7970 didn't have warranty anymore.. Didn't really want to go back to single 280X and decided to go all out for last upgrade to this pc and got Evga GeForce 780Ti Superclocked.

So the current final specs goes as:

MB: Asus Sabertooth X79
CPU: Intel Core i7 3930k @4GHz
RAM: 32GB of G.Skill Ribjaws X CL7
Cooling: Phanteks PH-TC14PE-BL
GPU: Evga GeForce 780Ti Superclocked
HDD: 15TB of several different HDD's
SSD: 2x Samsung 830 128GB
Case: Xigmatek Elysium
Monitors: Dell U2711 + Benq XL2420T Rev 2.0
KB+mouse: Logitech G710+ + Razer Naga Molten Edition
Wheel+pedals: Logitech G27 + ECCI Trackstar 6006 F1 System
Audio: Asus Xonar Essence ST (with opamp mod) + Lehmann Rhinelander + Denon AH-D2000

For future, specs stays same until Broadwell-E comes out sometime end of 2015 leaving time for X99 and DDR4 to mature a little. For monitor setup, Oculus Rift will be big part of it next year

@DeKo

Can confirm the lag issue. Running 3930K + 7970 Matrix here and had most settings turned to max + 2560x1440. Were getting around 60-70 constant fps and game felt always little sluggish and controls were somewhat unresponsive. Well not as "realtime smooth" as LFS's for example..

Tried to figure out what was the issue here for all week long.. Just blindly trusted 70 fps being enough right?

This morning's tests:
40 fps range: totally unplayable, huge input lag and game felt like slug trying to get out from slime!
60-70 fps range: still sluggish, half of input lag what 40 fps had.. whole game felt sluggish, but so little that couldn't figure the issue
200-300 fps range: LFS-like responsive controls, cars feel alive, ffb isn't numb anymore, whole game engine woke up

Not sure if it's just AMD-issue here or what, but never seen that huge input lag before. Even Pcars at 50fps is totally smooth.

Also it has been years since saw last time this huge performance impact from AF.. AF turned off = 230 fps (KTM+Magione at pits) while AF 16x = 140fps

Thanks but bad thread. Another one about higher Mhz is better.

Again; 1.6 Ghz here.

Heh I didn't mean to show the cpu benches there, but the gpu results. (my bad, should have linked it better hehe) And what you find there is, no matter what gpu was used nor which resolution/AA+AF settings, cpu were always bottlenecking the fps while gpu's were having cold beer and relaxing

However that said, yes you can get high gpu utilization % lower the actual hardware specs goes since it has to work harder while faster stuff doesn't even break a sweat with same load.

And the windows's way to show cpu % is cpu-threads-sensitive. Meaning your quad core i7+HT's 8 threads shows around 12% per full thread use. And there for the 10% for LFS cpu utilization actually is using nearly full capacity of your system for LFS's use (this is why single threaded apps sucks with modern pc's since they can only use the quarter of resources of your system, cpu-wise that is).

Also I have to ask, which i7 you got? Sandybridge based or Clarksfield, aka 2657M or 720QM? (based to 1.6ghz info)

And to clear it up since it seems to be in fashion on this forum, none of this text was some personal attack nor negativity stuff.. Just friendly chatting with fellow simlover :eclipsee_

2. Isn't SLI Three way? I don't really understand.. But it's damn powerful!

SLI means two or more all the way up to 4 (6 theoratically) Nvidia's GFX cards working together to share all the rendering job etc.

Bad luck with your motherboard is.. well let me quote one review of it:

Quote :
One thing this board does not support currently is NVIDIA's SLI configurations, which is their multiple GPU solution for improving game performance. Three-way Crossfire is supported as well as ATI's CrossfireX with two 4870 x2s, but though virtually every X58 board supports SLI this one does not. In fact every ASUS X58 motherboard except this one supports SLI.

Source

Basically your two GFX cards are just two individuals atm and not working together at all. Unless you keep all those 4 CRT's connected at the same time, your second card has no use and it's just there to idle and eat your wattage

Shoulda slap whoever build your pc, unless it was you yourself

Okay since you are quite new here, or using other account to hide your real identity (there is ppl who does this hehe, no hard feelings if you don't.. just saying), lets get little LFS history talk. First for all since day zero devs have made it very clear this is their software, their lifes and what they do. They have pointed it out many times in past they do not want to hire 200 people to help them out. They could do it, but they don't want it. This is the way they work and how they want to work. There must be thousands of people by now who don't like it, but in the end of the day.. devs decide what they do, what they want to do and how they want to do it.

So just saying, learn to respect other peoples opinions. There is 6 billion of them in this world. Nobody thinks same way than others

P.S. same goes to other people's opinions about other games.. If they don't want to test them out or have already and didn't like them. It's THEIR opinion no matter what you think about it or them.

So sit back, relax and enjoy the show okay?
