Quote from ID4nil1n :iliked the blue one, can i have the skin?

It's been 12 years mate, I don't have the old skins anymore! But it'd be easy enough for you to reproduce it using the template files.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Red Bull one appears to be the 2009 version.

Quote from Russ76 :A Skin request section is where you ask for skins is it not?

Indeed, but that doesn't entitle you to be disparaging about skinners' creativity or lack thereof just because nobody was interested in your request. Many skin requests go unfulfilled for this very reason.

I'm pretty sure it's bad form to post on behalf of a banned user.

Besides, why was this helmet request so urgent that Rocky couldn't wait until tomorrow?

Quote from daloonie :Pretty good, but you should round the edges of the black line on the roof.

I did try that but it had something of an unnatural look to it – in the end I felt it worked better by (mostly) following the wireframe. Maybe I'll have another stab at it in future.

Quote from drag pro :hi this is my first suit skin!! HOMER SIMPSON skin (male)!! but it dosent work becuse i cant upload it to lfsworld.com , can someone help me or upload it THX!!

First of all it is not permitted to ask for other users to upload your skins. Second, suit skins cannot be uploaded to LFSW anyway.

"UFS" Bodykit and paint template - inspired by Mini Cooper S

The kit is inspired by the Mini, but sticks with "UF" branding. The same kit can be used for UF1 and UFR. The XCF and PSD files contain the bodykit in a single layer - the other layers are a painting template to make it easy to use common Mini features - bonnet stripes, checked or Union Flag roof design and coloured wheel arches.

The preview image shows several sample skins which can be created just by altering the colours of different layers:

GIMP file: UFS-Kit_by_AJCham.xcf.zip
Photoshop file: UFS-Kit_by_AJCham.psd.zip

Alternatively, if you aren't interested in the paint template, you can just download the detail kit in PNG format:

Stellar work R4ptor! I had been trying to do this myself for a project I was working on with limited success. These vector wireframes could potentially enable me to get the project up and running again. I'll probably be in touch with you by PM in the next few days with details - I hope you'll be happy to discuss it with me and maybe help me take it forward (with full and grateful credit of course!).

I'll have a go at it, but can you confirm which suit you want? You ask for the 2010 suit, but the pic you gave is from 2009. The 2010 suit can be seen here and here.

@bunder9999

Even so, that thread is not the same thing as being suggested here. To use your example, in that thread someone might suggest a Group C Le Mans, whereas in Rocky's proposal people would have to design a specific car. I presume this would involve 3D modelling, or at least detailed illustrations, and description of technical details such as weight distribution, engine, suspension etc. There is a lot more to what Rocky has in mind than goes on in that thread.

Quote from Sutinennn :So I cant buy a lisence with a rechargeable card?

It depends what kind of cards are available in Finland. Here in the UK there are plenty of options which are standard MasterCard or Visa, which would work perfectly.

I've just done a quick search and it would appear that Western Union offer a prepaid Visa which is available in Finland. I'm not sure though, and there may be better alternatives so I would recommend you do a little research.

Quote from BoneCrusher :Well, if that is important to them. I suggest the first thing they should do is keeping the existing community with LFS, by keeping us updated on the progress (even if there's very little progress). That simple action would reduce the irritation quite a bit I think.

We have been updated on the progress. Scawen made a statement in November listing all the things that are currently being worked on ahead of the next major patch release. He has since made a number of posts reiterating that statement (the last as recently as a couple of weeks ago). In other words that list of things (tyre physics, setups, AI, suspension etc.) is what he is still busy with. What more are you wanting? A step by step commentary of exactly which function or subroutine is being worked on at any one time? What good would that be? Most of us are not programmers and those of us who are don't have access to LFS's codebase anyway so such information would be meaningless to us.

In addition Scawen has made no secret of the fact that the most important thing to him is the quality of the sim - not the number of players or the amount of money it makes (the latter are merely by-products of the former anyway). He has even recommended that those who are no longer enjoying LFS during this period of slow progress should go and find something else to do in the meantime - another sim,or maybe another activity entirely. When the patch is finished you can try it out and see if you think LFS is worth coming back to - it's your choice. Alternatively, if you are so sure of what the devs are doing wrong you can follow his other suggestion and create your own sim, and show them how it should be done.

The fact is there is nothing Scawen and the guys could do to remove the irritation felt by certain members of the community. There are too many people with an unreasonable sense of entitlement - I can't count the number of times I've seen someone claim to 'deserve' or 'be owed' something from the devs. This is horseshit of the highest order. They created a product, you liked it, you paid for it - end of. Personally I am extremely grateful for the way they do business. The video game market (and software in general) is flooded with titles whose quality has been badly compromised in order to meet deadlines set by the moneymen at major publishers. If the cost of avoiding seeing LFS suffering likewise is the requirement for a bit of patience at times, I think it's well worth it.

Quote from Breizh :It's too bad there doesn't seem to be interest in a repeat for the above three, even if conditioned by no guarantee that any submissions would or wouldn't be used.

This is an interesting point. Do you think enough people would be motivated to create a design even if the competition had no guarantee of bearing any fruit in terms of actual LFS content? If so then surely an unofficial competition could be organised by someone in the community? If as a result of the competition we get some really good ideas/designs then it is up to Scawen and the guys whether they want to take any of them further. They may not be keen on the idea at this stage but perhaps if we take the initiative and run a contest anyway, the end results might convince them otherwise.

The key issue is, as I say, whether enough people would be interested in expending time and effort creating the designs on the speculative off-chance that the guys might consider using them. Unless Scawen releases a statement saying that there is absolutely no chance they would, it could be an interesting and potentially valuable project.

Quote from Matrixi :I've no doubt nobody could really be bored with LFS yet with only 31 kilometers clocked.

I stay offline for the time being, as I don't think people would be too thrilled with me trying to race over a 3G internet connection - I'd probably be banned from every server before you could say 'lag'.
Update to current Scirocco before release?
ajcham
S2 licensed
If I understand correctly, the Scirocco model that will be in LFS is the 2 litre petrol version from 2008. That particular model has been superseded by a new 2 litre model released this year, and as far as I am aware the only changes are new interiors and an increase in power output from 200 to 210bhp. If so, I assume these changes would be relatively straightforward to implement, and I think it would be great if when we get to drive the VWS it was a current model.

Of course I may be wrong, and there may have been other changes to the car of which I am unaware that would make the task far more complicated. In that case, perhaps it wouldn't be worth the hassle. I guess there may also be licensing issues with Volkswagen, but I am totally ignorant of how such things work, so I don't know about that.

And finally, everyone, I'm not trying to start anything by bringing up the subject of the Scirocco
, so please just stay cool and resist the urge to spam this thread with rants or snarky comments about development progress and delays - it is very annoying and completely useless so keep it to yourself.

Quote from Matrixi :And I strongly disagree.

If it was moddable, many years of agonizing boredom would have been easily avoided. Years which still seem to carry on who knows for how long.

Seriously? That's a bit extreme to say the least. I mean my life is probably pretty dull by most people's standards, but even I can find alternative means of amusement when needed.

Quote from bosbrandje :the reason I see the future not so bright is the lack of an option to design tracks, or to have users submit tracks to the dev team. If there will ever be an update; just 1 new track will not satisfy the marority of users. Compared to other race sims. so, devs, please open up the ability for a track plug-in!

The FAQ explains why that is not yet an option, but that it will most likely be possible in future.

I think their position is reasonable, although I guess that depends on when development might be considered 'mostly finished'.
