Quote from CSU1 :I won't accept this as rational. I have only interacted with you in conversation once and I am sorry that you think I am a racist.

I like tomatoes, not enough to attack a developer though...this is the only rational sense I can make of this one I'm afraid, oh well, off to the greenhouse to stand on all of the malformed tomatoes...

I think by naming you, he only meant to show that there is something wrong with the way this forum is being moderated. Your name should've been taken away from his post, though it is not what happened, and you felt hurted by this in a way... and now this is going offtopic on a "personnal matter", the mods should not have let this happen... erasing the name would have save the situation

Quote from Greboth :
Victor is a dev but on this forum he is a mod too. You make out that mod are gods on fourms and should do no wrong etc. Being on this forum as well as others, there are occasions (some very good occasions) where mod's have to step in and have a go/shout at someone over something they have done or doing. Now while not part of the day to day moderating it is something they have to do too.

I think his point is not that mods should do no wrong at all... of course we are all human beings and we all do mistakes...
But Victor is one of the 3 most important persons in LFS... anything he says that is not 100% polite can hurt more than if it was anyone else than him saying it...

Quote from amp88 :I don't know what post of Victor's you're referencing but from what you say it sounds like he's been short with someone who's asking a simple question. I'd say that's an understandable position to take. There are so many links to FAQs, guides, manuals etc throughout the forum that when someone asks a simple question that's been answered in many different places it is frustrating. Answering questions that people shouldn't ask in the first place (because they haven't bothered to search for the answer) wastes time that could be better spent on genuinely difficult questions.

It is indeed understandable to feel frustrated by such users (those who obviously never try to search by themselves before asking), but not to humiliate them because of that... this is not a mature way to act...
In my mind, a forum moderator should be a very patient person and be able to say things politely, without hurting anyone...

here's an interesting quote from wikipedia (for ppl saying crop circles are made by men)
Quote :
In 2002, Discovery Channel commissioned 5 aeronautics and astronautics students from MIT to create crop circles of their own. Discovery's production team consulted with crop circle researcher Nancy Talbott, who provided them with three attributes which she believed set "real" crop circles apart from known man-made circles such as those created by Doug Bower and Dave Chorley.[35] These criteria were:
  1. Elongated apical plant stem nodes
  2. Expulsion cavities in the plant stems
  3. The presence of 10-50 micrometer diameter magnetized iron spheres in the soils, distributed linearly
Over the course of a single night the team was able to create a stereotypical "man-made" circle which they then attempted to enhance using the three criteria. The team used lengths of rope to plot their design and trampled the wheat down in a spiral pattern using lengths of wooden board attached to loops of rope. To meet criterion 2, they constructed a portable microwave emitter; using it to superheat the moisture inside the corn stalks until it burst out as steam. To meet criterion 3 they built a device - dubbed the "Flammschmeisser" - which sprayed iron particles through a heated ring. However, the device proved to be too time consuming to use and they were forced to finish the task using a pyrotechnic charge to distribute the iron around the circle. The circle was later analyzed by graduate students from MIT, who declared it to be "on a par with any of the documented cases". Their conclusion was later questioned by Talbott, noting that the team had only been able to recreate 2 of the 3 criteria. Talbott also expressed concerns that the iron particles were not distributed laterally. Furthermore, she felt that the team's use of night vision headsets and other technologically advanced items would be out of reach for the average hoaxer.[35]
The creation of the circle was recorded and used in the Discovery channel documentary "Crop Circles: Mysteries in the Fields".[35]

i'm not sure ppl we'd have hundreds of ppl every year who would go through that much trouble to do smt like that... not to forget they'd need material that is apparenly out of reach to normal ppl...

Quote from JJ72 :I care about what I eat, but I don't care how they are named.

well... what if you like tomatos, and you ask me "gimme a tomato" and i say "yes" (i am such a nice person sometimes ) and what i give you is an orange... and you tell me "wtf i asked a tomato not an orange!!?!" and i say "oh well that's the new tomato, we decided to call it a tomato, if you wanted a real tomato, you should've say a real real real tomato!"

doesnt that seem weird to you? well it is to me... and that's what we are doing atm... calling our new butterfly-tomato a "tomato", and calling the old real tomato an "organic tomato"...

okay... why did u come on this topic if you do not care about your food? the topic is titled "Wondering what you really eat?"... so i'd assume that if you clicked on it, you were wondering what you really eat for a moment... that would mean you would care about it at least a bit...

dont u guys find it at least just a bit odd that the tomato you are buying at the grocery is called a tomato when it's not a real tomato? and that the real tomato that has been called a tomato for years now needs to be called an organic tomato so you know that this one is the real real tomato??

dont u guys care what you eat? or maybe u never cared what u eat and u have some buttefly genes in your brain... <_<
