Quote from bunder9999 :what, this? they added that, or something like it to wine 1.0. it's still bunk.

LFS under linux!

I recently switched over to linux from vista and I'm very excited that I got lfs to work!

granted I still have dual boot for certain games, but it makes me happy to know that lfs works great!

http://www.dapcwiz.com/misc/lfs-linux.png

(sorry its a huge screenshot, lol) It was actually pretty simple... just a tiny bit of fiddling with wine. fps in windows are like 90+ normally... and mostly in the 50-70 range under 'nix... but still very playable.

Quote from NotAnIllusion :I'll have a look (listen?) thru, but personally I'd have preferred if the files weren't to replace the default sounds because it's easy enough to load alternatives with shift-a

maybe I don't know what I'm doing... but when I press shift+a in lfs, nothing happens....

edit: nvm I figured it out.

Sorry for being a total nub... but is there a readme somewhere that explains how to install / use this app? I just extracted it and ran the exe... but then I don't know what to do with the .twk file?

edit: nvm I'm a nub. Did some searching and I found http://laplaya.site90.com/?pid=4. Got it working now, thanks!

Quote from Deutschland2007 :Don´t know any big racing series where the cars only have one fuel intake. They have two intakes because the pitlane is not on the same side of the track everytime.

ooooor you fill up from both sides at the same time and make the pit stop super quick!

lol j/k

Quote from S14 DRIFT :There's clutch damamge. Gearbox damage is FAR too complicated to model. I think I'm correct in saying no game has decent GEARBOX damage. Apart from those crappy ToCa games, and Race Driver. But you can slam into a wall at 150 and get gearbox damage (??), not from downshifting like a prick

True.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :If you've ever driven or ridden a real car or bike, you would know you can change gears without a cluth as long as you can match the revs. On a bike you can change up without a problem. changing down is harder because you can't get to neutral in any gear other one than 2nd, but on a car it's possible.

On a car just shift into N and then match the revs to the roadspeed for the gear and it should go straight in. Not good for the gearbox but can be done nevertheless.

yeah we know that, just want a grinding noise since lfs doesn't let you rev match

edit: just tried it... you CAN rev match in lfs.... but it should still make a grinding noise when you do it incorrectly

gear box damage would be awesome too... but I'm sure that wouldnt' be an addon... that's more of a feature they need to add to the game

Quote from S14 DRIFT :Would be too much of a pain to implement.

dunno much about the internal workings of lfs... but from my development experience.... it'd be something along the lines of:

if(gear shifted from x to y && clutch != pressed){
play grind.wav
}

lol...

idk maybe its more complicated than that.

lol ya, I do it once in a while. Got two cars, both are manual... can't stand to drive auto IRL. Was just wondering in the game. Def not an issue of not wanting to push the clutch, just want a grinding noise for more realism
Request: Grinding gears noise

I found a couple threads in the improvement suggestions section.... but noting for addons.

I was wondering if anyone was working on a mod that creates a grinding noise when you shift incorrectly. Currently if you totally misclutch a shift, LFS will just leave it in N and not give you any indication of a problem with shifter other than that. A grinding noise would add some realism in the game.

That aside... is it possible to rev match and shift w/o the clutch? I haven't tried it in the game....

Nice work up there mate.

thanks. I might give some other cars the same treatment or with a little more detail when I have time.

Quote from Dark Elite :Frankly, I'd be damn annoyed if my car's handbrake came off as soon as I let go after applying it, but maybe that's just me.

As soon as you select a gear and disengage the clutch, the handbrake comes off anyway. It never causes a problem when moving off, it's been designed not to.

Although this would be a good idea, the best way of modelling a real handbrake.

Sam

I have a real handbrake on my controls... so it stays up on its own

http://picasaweb.google.com/da ... _test#5242186150577893810

but to be honest... after play with my handbrake setup for a couple days... the auto handbrake isn't as annoying as I thought. I would still like the option to turn it off... but its fine that its there.

I actually just made a handbrake for my setup -

you can also find some pics at:
(cockpit is still under construction... hopefully i'll be done soon)

also... now that I have this... I find the auto handbrake in lfs kinda annoying. Is there a way to disable it?
Offensive skin?

I know there's been a couple threads on this... but it seems all their picture links are dead. I was bored and decided to search online for "jdm stickers" and then proceeded to take everything I found and throw it on a skin.

If I uploaded this skin to lfsworld.net, would I get in trouble for it?

I personally don't think its offensive... nor is it tasteful... but whatever I was bored, haha.

I'm fairly new to lfs and I would like to keep within the standards of the community... so i'm just making sure I'm not violating them before putting stuff up...

updated version of the skin I posted yesterday. Stole the lights and grill mesh from the RB4 to have more realistic headlights / grill.

decided to make myself a skin to drive / drift with. Also decided to do something funky with the XR front end. This is what I came up with:
