Quote from Hammerdown :Sounds like you've got the info you need, but just to recap.

Yes you can run Windows on any Intel powered Mac (all new ones are). If you haven't bought it yet, you'll be fine. All the new ones come with MacOS 10.5 (Leopard). What you do is operate a utility program (Bootcamp) which sets the hard drive up with a second partition onto which you install windows (XP Pro recommended, rather than Vista). You can then start it up as either a Mac or a Windows machine. You have to have a legitimate copy of Windows, single installer disc, service pack 2. I've tried it on a MacBook Pro and it's a breeze (actually works better than any PC I've ever tried!!). It even creates Windows drivers for all the Mac hardware, graphics cards etc. You then just install LFS and treat it as a Windows machine. You have to restart to turn it back into a Mac, and vise versa. I get frame rates of over 100 easily. It's obviously cheaper with Bootcamp, as the software is bundled - you just have to buy Windows. It all depends whether you mind having to reboot to switch between the two. Have fun!

Here's a link http://www.macrumors.com/2007/ ... els-vs-vmware-benchmarks/

Interesting! I wondered how you would sort out the driver situation with a mac! Does bootcamp update the drivers for xp?

Quote from LewX :I live in Sydney and can tell you that the harbour bridge climb is a fabulous experience (even though it costs a fortune, damn government, there should be prices on the website). The view from the top of the bridge great, you can see everything, the walk to the start of the 'arch' is probably the scariest. You can see through the floor and you realize your being supported by some metal poles and wooden planks.

^hope that didn't put you off because it really is great.

The other thing is the 'Three Sisters' located at Echo Point, Katoomba. I'm not really a 'ohh look at the view its lovely' kind of guy. But the view from Echo Point was just magnificent. The gorge is absolutely huge, the three sisters are also massive. But while your there, go on the scenic railway. Its the steepest incline railway in the world. The info of it is here... http://www.infobluemountains.net.au/rail/ksr/Default.htm. It tells you the incline level and you can take a virtual reality ride. 52 degrees might not sound like much but when your on it, it feels like your almost vertical.

Hope you have fun.

OH NO flimsy metal poles and wooden planks... Its not like captain cook traveled for months to get here in something made out of flimsy wooden planks :P

I forgot to mention the scenic railway. But yeah there are many sights to see in the mountains.... So where the bloody hell are ya?
And i almost forgot to warn you about the fashion. No pretty boy hair cuts or trendy t shirts. Make sure you get a nice broad akubra with corks in it and some crocodile skin boots so you can avoid being a social outcast - if you cannot find the propper clothing at least wear sun screen because nothing makes us laugh more than a bright red pom whinging about their sunburn (seriously...)

Quote from danowat :I am currently compiling a list of "must see" things for my trip to Oz in 6 weeks.

Basically, I am looking for suggestions from our Aussie LFS drivers, and anyone else who's been, knows someone who has.

Currently, as we are spending the majority of our time near Sydney, I have pencilled in the Motorsport museaum at Bathurst, the harbour bridge, darling harbour, opera house etc etc.

Also, we are driving down to Melbourne for a week, while we are there we will be visiting the Great ocean road, Dandenong ranges, Fern gully.

So any other suggestions for "must sees", either in Sydney, Melbourne, between the two, or around the two, would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Danowat!

I live in Sydney Australia and i can tell you some of the less touristy but some of the fun things to do around it!

Coming from London i am guess you like night clubs and such? Home bar in cockle bay is a very large club in sydney city whilst the three wise monkeys on George street is a popular drinking hole with live music for the more homely pub feel!

Now being on the LFS forum i assume you like driving? Grab a hire car and head up to the blue mountains via the bells line of road! If you are coming during summer there is a great little spot in the mountains which will break the driving up nicely! It is called Clarence Dam or 'duck pond' to the locals in lithgow; you can see some of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDUZRbe6yQY Just turn left (the left turn is before the bridge which is just before the big right turn into the main zig zag area) into a dirt track and follow the zig zag railway until you see the white arrows, than follow those. Once your sick of the rope swings and chute slides, you can turn left after lithgow on the great westurn highway and head to katoomba and the jenolen caves for some sight seeing fun! Should take one full day.
If you still crave more driving fun, than the old pacific highway is a must. Have lunch at the 'pie in the sky' restaraunt half way down and enjoy the hawkesbury river from a number of nice (but expensive - not that youd mind coming from england) pubs littered throughout. Be aware that the road has washed out after the big t intersection where you turn left for the F3 or right to continue along the OPH - this is a bonus to some people as nobody drives on it anymore and it has an excelent surface and is very twisty and fun.

Anyway, If you every get bored just head into a pub and ask the happiest looking person what he reckons you should do and see .

Quote from f4sttr@ck :Not an attitude as i said, ive driven many cars before. And although the camaro will be a new one i will have to master, I will do it, and it wont take long. Just because u think age has something to do with driving, yes, skill does come with practice, although you dont know anyting about me, perhaps ive drove cars with twice the power of a camaro, what is it that makes you think that just because im young I cant handle it. Again, ignorance on your part.

Hey mate, your right, I don't know you. Whether you like it or not you do have an attitude, everybody does. I am also a young driver, i am 19 years old. My parents have had farms since i was born and i have driven many, many cars in these low traction environments since my early teens - so don't feel that i am trying to condescend you, i am simply giving my opinion as a peer. I have many friends who are into performance cars, they are all very experienced and have spent a huge amount of time and money learning to drive properly. Yet i have still seen too many crashes to condone a young male in that sort of car. Kids in fast cars is just out right dangerous - no matter who you think you are!
To be honest, if you were really keen on performance driving, you probably would be buying a Silvia or some sort of well balanced light car. Camaro's are cruisers with straight line power, they suffer terribly in the corners let-alone on a race track. The fact that you think 0-60 times are important when buying a first car concerns me.

Quote from f4sttr@ck :sir, u are quite ignorant, i have been driving different cars since i was 13 years old, and yes, i can, and will, handle it as well as anyone else in here.

I see you share the attitude of many young drivers.

Quote from [URL=" :
M5roth that could be a good assumption but the fact that I never drove a manual car before may be true, but Ive been driving for a lot longer than two years buddy.

If you do get it, just stay safe for ****s sake.

Quote from Jakg :Am i the only one who think 320 HP isn't really suitable for someones first car?

I stand right with ya buddy.
Your a joke of a person to even think you will be able to drive that thing. Buy an old civic or something until you stop bumping into stuff, THAN buy the car of your dreams.
Big torque + live rear axle + zero dynamic ability + useless driver = fail.
A bit blunt but it may save your live.

Headphones: $5 Jensen earbuds. sound fine, uncomfortable after an hour.
Monitor: dell 27" flatpanel 2709
Keyboard: you guessed it: dell

Everything is still at stock speeds for now. Maybe when I have more time to learn in detail about overclocking I'll give it a go. For now I really have no reason... 60fps solid @ SO6, back of the grid behind 19ai. 1280X1024, everything else maxed. rFactor gives me 250fps in some places, same with iRacing.

A little off topic, but when I search for this thread, even searching the title verbatim, it doesn't come up anywhere. Weird.

Ridiculously overpowered for LFS!!!

Quote from WizardHat :Hey buddy, Check out www.australasianleague.com & www.mondaynightracing.com for more info on any Australian Series' currently taking place or soon to be taking place.

The AAL Has announced it's next series 'Oval Festival' I believe the entries for the first race close tomorrow night, so get your hotlap entered :P

I'm fairly sure the MNR Jamaica series is still happening, but don't quote me on that, though there will almost always be some sort of series for you to compete in with a bunch of the Aussie LFS'ers.

Look forward to seeing you out on the track

Also, a wheel is not required to enter either series, I race with the keys, there will be no issue with you using a mouse to compete

Quote from J_luo88 :Also, come over to www.arseforums.com and introduce yourself there. That's where the majority of Aussie racers are as well as the home of the AAL forums

Great thanks!

Just signed up to www.australiasianleague.com, so i will be joining some races soon!
Havn't got around to the other two sites yet, next week i will check it out!

A little off topic, but how does everybody know the WR?
is there a thread somewhere with all the records and what not? I'd love to watch some of the replays, so if someone could tell me where they are i'd be grateful.

Oh and i don't believe natural talent is everything, it just reduces the amount of time it takes before you hit that time your chasing.

Hey,
I'm very interested, is this still going on? do you need a wheel - i use the mouse

I am just getting to the point where i would like to get more competitive!
