LFS is alive and well!

Not sure why I decided to post this but it appears to me that LFS is still going strong.
I play iRacing.. and I'm not a good "sim driver" in any game ... but I keep coming back to LFS for many reasons.. It still has a certain "feel" that I cannot describe.. there are still many here who appear passionate about it.

For those who are claiming "LFS is dead".. even over at iRacing they are saying the same thing lol... (about iRacing.. "not enough new stuff" lol)

It's as if everybody wants everything right now.. nothing is advancing fast enough.. "give me more!!" "I can't wait 2 years!".. lol...

I purchased LFS a few years ago.. played it, stopped.. now I'm back again.. still not a good driver.. I play NR2003... iRacing..

I still enjoy LFS.. there are still plenty of competitors online.. yes sometimes you have idiots.. but.. it really is.. and remains.. a great game..

Nothing is perfect. If you have an XBox go buy Nascar 2011 and you'll vomit lol. it's a joke!!!

Compared to what is out there LFS is a bargain and still a great sim.

Why did I post this? I have no idea lol
Dumb question, I just bought a second license

Hi,
I have been an S2 license holder for several years. Username is jscharpf.

Now I just purchased a second license. I received the product registration key for this second license. I wanted to create a new user account but when I try to use the same email it tells me that email is already in use.

How do I run two licenses? Do I need two email addresses?

The reason I bought a second license is that I want my son to race also and he is using my original license.

9 pin connector pinout for Momo pedals?
jscharpf
S2 licensed
Does anyone know the pinout of the 9 pin sub D connector used from the pedals to the wheel on the Logitech Momo wheel/pedal set?
There are four wires coming from the pedals, but it looks like there are some jumpered pins at the connector. It's hard to see because they've siliconed it.

I'm just going to replace the connector. The cable is fine.

Thanks for the responses.
He now has an S2 license.

His online game name is Denis Ardelean. So if you see him, keep in mind he's nine years old lol.. He will mostly be on the LTC servers but I suppose some day he may want to race.

ok so are you saying he can just play legally using my account and a different username? Won't the system flag two users having the same S2 license? There will be times when he and I are on the same server.

Son gets on his account>goes onto a professional race server (CTRA, CD etc.)> Cant drive very well due to inexperience> Hits drivers accidently>Drivers are unhappy due to ther ruined race and car> drivers file a report> dads user account gets banned> dads not a very happy chappy.

Yes that too!! After all he's a boy. He generally is very respectful of rules unlike most kids but he is NOT a good driver lol.. well he's ok on the cruise servers. Maybe in the future he can take his own risks on the race tracks lol..

Because we both may drive at the same time and I would like him to have his own account. He may grow into this over the next few years. Who knows.

Besides, isn't it against the policy to have two computers from the same house playing LFS with one S2 license?

Is it legal for a 9 year old to play this game?

I have a 9 year old autistic son who takes things like this sim very seriously. I am considering purchasing a license for him. I won't go into detailed reasons, but it's helpful to him.
Obviously he's not going to race very well, but the hand/eye coordination he gets from driving my license on the LTC servers is very good.

I'm just wondering if/when I purchase a second LTC license (He has his own PC) if they will allow it when I put his age in.

Hey my son rides the short bus!

He's autistic.. so he gets the special bus.. but he's a genious lol...just has a hard time with social skills...

Getting back to the original question. Thanks for all of the reponses. I certainly understand about the response, etc.. In NR2003, you can tweak it to eliminate this, but it does add a bit of "dead" space which can be deadly if you don't understand it.

I'm willing to live with it.. since the rest of the game performs flawlessly on my mediocre system, I really have no right to complain. This game is alot of fun, it was easy to set up, and it has a great "feel". I've got all my graphics maxed.. and I have no issues with FRs..

Thanks again for the responses!

Thanks for the replies.

I believe that I have the shifter set up to be sequential. The momo has a stick shifter with a click forward and a click back. (The software sees these as buttons 8 and 9).
The shifter works fine for the "normal" cars. If I push forward it shifts up, if I pull back it shifts down.
I will look at my settings once again.

Thanks for the offer danowat! Over the last few days I've just been joining servers randomly, not really knowing what's going on.
I even joined a race yesterday but I was in the wrong car lol.. I thought I was doing ok because there were alot of open wheel crashers, until someone rammed me from behind.. Hopefully it was his fault

This game is very addicting. My 9 year old son has the demo version and he logs in to the car park and basically plays smash up derby.

steering wheel "wiggle" at center
jscharpf

I have a Logitech momo with FF. For the most part it works great.

When the wheel is centered, if I'm not holding on, it will wiggle back and forth (I assume it's because I have the FF set to 200% lol), but I like the feel of the force feedback.

Is there a way to get rid of this wiggle? Currently I let the game find the control (I don't run the Logitech profiler). Maybe I should try this?

a few beginner questions
jscharpf

I recently moved to S2, and although I don't want to start racing any of the new cars yet online, I tried running one of the open wheel cars offline, and could not figure out how to shift past first gear. I know it's something stupid, but I could not find anything in the manual. What am I doing wrong?

Is there a league that I can join that accepts new players? I don't mind if I'm the lapped car on every race. I just want to gain experience. I can only commit to weekends because my work week is too unpredictable.

Is there a way to join up with an experienced driver and have that person take me through some simple laps and/or simple concepts, just to make sure I'm not starting off with bad habits?

Any advice, links, etc.. is appreciated.

It takes a few days if you pay using Paypal and you're drawing it from you bank with an e-check. It's not bad though, I think I waited 4 or 5 days.
If your Paypal draws of your credit card, then it's usually quick.

I've had other transactions that were instant with Paypal. I'm guessing it has something to do with the $ conversion.

Hey all,
I just dl'd LFS this weekend and I have to say I'm already addicted.
I've played NR2003 for a while, and while it's a fun sim, I had the need to do right turns..

Anyway, while waiting for my S2 license, I've been playing online on the demo servers.
I understand that the "demo" drivers don't really care much about etiquette or even racing really lol.. but I'm ok with that as I practice.

I do have a couple of questions that I did not find in the manual.

Tire wear. Is there some indicator somewhere that shows the tire wear or is it just how you feel it? If I set my tires to be changed at a certain percent, will I receive some message indicating that my tires are wearing down?
I guess the same question goes for the wear on components, engine, etc..

In the demo game I tried desperately to wear out my tires by locking the brakes a few times.. sure I can get them hot but it appears that they don't want to wear down. Maybe I didn't drive enough..?

Can I damage the engine by over-reving?

So far it's been a blast, although hard to find a group of serious drivers on the demo servers who actually want to finish a race.

For now I've put aside my NASCAR sim for a while.. so I can enjoy some road driving

Hope to see some of you online soon!

Jeff

Just downloaded the demo this weekend and I immediately ordered the S2. Have to wait a few days for my Paypal to clear but I've been playing the demo for a couple of days online.
I just want to say great work!
I've been playing NR2003 for about 6 months. Great game but I wanted a little more road racing.
I found this game and after downloading it, I have to say I'm hooked!
I also downloaded rfactor for comparison and to me this is a much better sim.
rfactor took forever to install, and even when I try to run it, it takes a long time to load..
lfs downloaded and installed without any issues. I've got a medium system, and I have all of the settings maxed out. Everything looks and feels great! I love the training races.
I've been playing online for a day and everything runs very smooth. I'm excited to receive my S2 and get online with a league or something similar.

Thanks for a great sim!
