Having a few issues with the screen freezing on 0.6k. Only when the AI have tried to occupy the same bit of track as me and we've ended up in the barrier. It's never happened when racing. Game still runs, sounds, mouse control etc but screen freezes and won't come back. Not sure if it's just my system or a bug.

Runs so smooth now. Need to learn to drive again. Can't wait to get my graphics card now. Then I'll get an S3 licence.

Well you will all be pleased to hear that I have a new system now. Built a Haswell i3 @3.4ghz with 8gb ram. very similar to the suggestion a few pages back. Using some new and some used parts. Total cost £183. Waiting on some gift vouchers from work for a well known PC chain in the UK to buy a graphics card. So using the onboard graphics for now and with 0.6K all I can say is......

Holy FPS Batman!!!!

Can race a full field of AI, sky on, rubber in, car reflection things on 8, AA on 4x and never drop below 60fps running at 720p.

It's a completely different experience. Amazed!!

That's a great help. Thanks so much. Will go back to 'J' for now I think. I've managed to get 25fps now but it stutters down to 12 or so on occasion. And it won't run with more than 4 AI cars.

The other issue is the computer wouldn't post yesterday. Fiddled about unplugging stuff and it finally worked after 20 mins of trying. It must know it's days are numbered.

It has to last another month or so. Then I'll build a new system

Just told her that and all I got was a funny look. Haha

I could go back to 'J' but I couldn't access the multiplayer until id updated. So guessing id be stuck racing the AI.

Not great as I spend quite a bit of time racing a buddy of mine in a private server

No it was more like £12. No other non nvidia cards on eBay UK for less than £40 currently. I'd rather put that into a new system. At least that explains the problems. The last LFS 0.6J update gave me the ability to turn on a lot of the detail and keep a playable frame rate. This update has put me back to where I was on 0.6H. I'll live with it for a few months and build a new system.

Thanks again everybody. I'm amazed I'm getting so much help on such a waste of time museum exhibit computer. It's awesome. I'm guessing its nostalgia more than anything. Lol

Haha. The hard drive is pretty quiet compared to how I remember them in the past but yea it's rocking IDE. Should be in a museum somewhere

Bought the 360 when the Xbone came out and people were selling them off cheap.

But again the Pentium was a stop gap just to get started with LFS. The only other PC in the house is a dual core laptop. Decent processor but crap graphics performance so that's no good either

Should of added a 'Lol' to my post.

Didn't take it as a suggestion. I was playing Geoff Cramond Grand Prix at 1024x768 in the late 90's

Whatever I run LFS at its more enjoyable than anything on my Xbox 360

Thanks everyone for your replies. Yea running XP. It was a fresh install when I rescued the system. It only has LFS, the G25 drivers/software and Firefox installed. That's it. I de-dusted it and redid the thermal paste, added fans etc, maxed out the memory and added the graphics card.
An Nvidia FX5600XT. It takes a frame rate hit if Firefox is open in the background so it's booted up and straight into LFS. Yes I know it's a Stone Age system and I was really surprised that it runs it at all.

It's a Dell system with a locked bios so no way I've found of changing the multiplier.

Thanks for the game suggestion cargame.nl maybe I need to downgrade my 'sim' software then

Have managed to leverage a small budget from the wife so a new system is closer than before. I think I'm gonna go with a G3258 so it's 1150 socket and can upgrade to an i5 in future if it's ever needed.

Thanks again everyone for your help. Amazing community

This is what dynamic reflections set to zero looks like. Currently running at 800x600 16bit

Set to zero the car is covered in rainbows but at a lower resolution it is just about playable. 25-30fps.

Tried some overclock software but no joy. That will have to do for now and will try to persuade the wife that a new machine is needed. Thanks for your help everyone

Yes yes yes. I know it's an old system and 300£€$ would build a decent system but I don't have 300£€$ right now. As you can see from my join date I'm new to LFS and sim racing. I do plan to build a new system at some point but I don't want to spend any money on a temporary solution if I can help it. This pentium 4 was rescued from the attic and for £20 of eBay parts ran LFS fine.

I'd love to run at 60fps with all the shaders and details on. But I just needed something cheap to get me started to see if I'd even like sim racing

Wow. That's interesting. My system is 2.0ghz pentium 4. 2gb ram and 256mb graphics card. I've looked into a faster processor but my mother board only supports 400mhz bus speed.

Downloaded and installed the update last night. Unplayable stuttery mess

13 year old system finally met its match. Turned everything off or to minimum. Sky, rubber, everything and at best I got 20fps sat in the garage.

Got work to do over Christmas to try and squeeze some more MHz out of its old bones or I'll be having an enforced LFS sebatical

Ok let me rephrase that

It was the best u could find on eBay within the 3 weeks I was looking at a reasonable price. (Only one better card available and it was 5 times the cost) I was more concerned with the ram size tbh as the card the computer (rescued from the attic) came with wouldn't even run the LFS title screen without filling up and crashing.

Thanks for those links tho. Very interesting. I won't be doing any upgrades to this system as its the cpu holding it back and theres not a lot I can do with it that would make much improvement. It plays LFS at 30fps just fine (as long as it's not a custom layout or too many AI cars) so it will do for now. I already have a new system built in my mind but it won't see the light of day for some time. As in until I can convince the wife to let me spend money on sim racing instead of the house.

Quote from Scawen :shader model 2 is supported

Thank you so much for your quick reply Scawen.
It's a graphics card from 2003 but it's the best I could install on the AGP socket the computer has.
I saw your post saying that there may be problems with older cards. I will be building a new system when time/money allows.
But I'm glad I can use the latest version and drive Rockingham.

I read a post that worried me. My system is very old. It's a dedicated LFS PC and I'm worried that this patch may be too much for it. My graphics card supports up to shader model 2.0a. Can anyone help?

Hi just signed up. Been playing the demo for a short while getting myself set up. Did intend to run off my laptop but found an old system in the attic that with a cheap used graphics card off eBay is working very nicely. Using a G25 and hoping to have some fun races.

I like the sound of some of the leagues but my work schedule may prevent me from doing that many.
