Quote from thisnameistaken :If you can't (or don't want to) get a G25, get a DFP. Don't bother pissing around with the Momo or Thrustmaster wheels or whatever, just get a DFP. Seriously.

Do the rest feel the same way. Cos I had the old logitech formula force previously for a couple of years from my time with GP2. I had always been thinking about getting a better wheel but never got round to it cos it isnt cheap. Finally a friend happened to want to give up his momo so i got it from him and gave my FF to another friend. I think its better than the FF but have never tried the G25 so wouldnt know if its worth getting cos its a hell of a lot more expensive.

i think about 10-15 laps max would be nice for a no pit stop race and maybe 20-30 laps max for those with pit stops. Anything longer would be a little boring cos things rarely change for longer races unless something dramatic happens.

I also like short 5 laps races cos I can just get in there race and then go off. And if I get wrecked I dont have to wait ages for the next race.

I think the short races shld be on weekdays and the longer ones shld be on weekends. Cos people tend to have more time on weekends than weekdays. Sorry to offend those that work on weekends.

Although I have just started playing, I still feel that new tracks should be able to be designed by anyone but can only be included as a download pack after going through some sort of approval frm the developers. This is cos after a while, the tracks are gonna be boring cos u have gone over them thousands of times. New tracks will add something new and also allow for new races where tracks are released just before the race.

However, I dont agree to modding. The problem with modding is a game like this is that our community is already quite small and modding will fragment the community.

Large distribution games benefit from modding cos sometimes the initial package is crap and the mods make the game much more playable. Also large distribution games can survive fragmentation cos the community is much bigger and people will just move to the better mod.

Who cares if someone uses the player hack. as long as the server admin allows it I dont see it as a problem. I dont really have time to look at the driver of the next car when I am racing anyway. And even if its a nude woman, as long as the person drives properly, I couldnt give a sh!t.

As long as they dont change it to a shopping car as a replacement for a BF1. Even if they do and that server that they are playing on involves funny cars, then its up the the server admin as I said.

Sometimes it helps if people dont take everything so seriously. There is a place and time for all this. As long as they dont invade a serious racing server with this.

I wouldnt mind just joining one for a laugh now and again.

I think Championship mode for playing offline against the AI might be a good idea but I wouldn't place a priority on it. Its always better and more exciting to play against real opponents but some of those still learning to race might benefit from an AI opponent and a championship mode to race while they improve enough so that they dont mess up and piss people off during a real race.

I think it would be interesting having a league with random cars and tracks announced just before the practice or qualifiers. Would add something different to the leagues/races out there.

I would love to join but still needs lots of practice before even getting into a competitive level. Currently just not good enough.

Thanks for the explanation, Becky. Helped clear things up a lot. Now I understand how it works.

Thanks Becky. I know i suck:weeping: but I would just like to understand how the points are awarded. I am sorry if my post sounded like I was bashing :chairs:the system. I dont have a problem with the system but I'd like to know so that I have a better idea on how much pts I will be getting based on my finishing position.

Example: 10pts for 1st place, 8 pts for 2nd place..........

Is there a link to the current points system in CTRA? I just need to understand how the points are awarded. Cos from the end of the race, I cannot figure it out as it seems that what car u drive has a bearing on how many pts u r awarded.
I am finally licensed

Woohoo!!!! I am finally licensed....Finally decided it was time to spend some $ purchasing the license. Personally think this is one of the best spent $70+ in my currency. Hopefully I still think that after a couple of months cos currently my times still stink.

Was thinking of purchasing after I got to abt 1.35 on BL in XFG. But couldnt stand it that my time has been stuck on 1.37 for some time so decided to go ahead and get fully licensed and give the rest of the cars and tracks a try. Hopefully I can get it up to a time that is more competitive.

Quote :You have a setup with locked differentials
Due to probably not perfectly simulated effects of locked differentials, using them is in most cases the fastest way around the track in LFS. However, to drive them fast you need to apply little amounts of throttle all the way through the corner. If you try to steer without throttle you will experience heavy understeer.

Thanks for the tip Andriod, I never did bother about setups. Just downloaded them and tried to drive them. But had been having understeer problems. After your comment, I checked my setups and its just like you said. Now will be trying to see if I can improve my times with your comments.

The comments in this thread have been great in helping me understand why my times have not been improving.

I have been stuck at the same times for a while and that is what has been holding me back from getting the full version of LFS. My laptimes have been hanging around at 1.37 and no matter what I have been trying I have not been improving.

Will be trying some of the comments when I next get in and see how they improve my time. I expect that it shld improve significantly as I have not been doing what col is saying.

Yeah...this horse has been flogged to death. Anyway, I still dont understand why people are complaining or comparing LFS to other games.

1. A lot of those complaining are from the richer countries. US$1 is worth $1.50 in my currency and 1 UK pound is worth abt $2.50. So I am paying comparatively more considering that our income here is similar in our local currency as it is in yours. If u think the game is really good then pay and enjoy it. I myself am saving up for it somewhere later this year.

2. You are actually paying for 3 games if u were to compare it. S1 and S2 are all fully functional games and much better built and a lot less buggy than a lot of other games out there. S3 i assume would be the same given their track record. Imagine if u were 2 buy something like Need for Speed. They release one new game every ? number of years and its basically the same thing rehashed just with different music and cars but bascially the same game. So if u pay US$60 for each NFS, if u buy 3 then you end up paying more in the long run than compared to LFS.

Plus the best thing of all. The community in LFS is great and everyone is very helpful. I remember the other day I was online and after racing for a while most people has left and there were only 2 of us left on the server and this guys time was a couple of seconds faster than me. He gave me pointers and even asked me to race around the track with him following just behind me to let me know whta I was doing wrong. I managed to improve my time by abt 1 sec and also maintain consistency in my laptimes where previously i did 1 gd lap and the rest would be crappy.

Thanks guys for the help. I am getting much better starts now and getting into T1 not so much a the back. Also Slopi hints on going into T1 on the inside really helps but as he mentioned people dont look when going into corners.

Probably will need some more work to get better starts but your 2 comments really helped improve my horrible start.

Anyway looking to purchase the full license once I have saved enough.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to improve starts? I currently keep going into the first corner quite far back in the pack even though I might start in the front. Although this might be good cos I don't get involved in the mess at the 1st corner, I tend to have to catch up with the rest through most of the race.

Any recommendations?

Great video. Good job. Very useful seeing how other drive and also getting some tips on what to do. I think i need to work on my checking left and right cos I have been finding it a little hard to check and drive properly at the same time.

Practice I guess.

Hi, I just downloaded LFS Demo over the weekend and have been trying it with my MOMO. I used to play the GP series for quite some time before. I would just like to say that this is a great game from what I have seen from the Demo. Looking to get S2 sometime soon. Probably once I have saved up enough and have got a little better at driving. I also would like to say that the community is excellent and have got lots of help from reading the forums eg configuring wheel, car setups, driving tips. Probably one of the best forums I have been in so far.

Thanks to all and look forward to seeing you on the track.

Forgive me if I suck.:bump:

Quote from Hockquan :I'm not the greatest racer that eve lived (obviously) but it's difficult even when you have an idea of what you are doing. Yesterday I was racing on the STCC server and got into a fight with this guy for the whole race on Blackwood GP reverse. We were swapping positions at least once each lap and leaving each other enough room, at times we were both sacrificing speed through corners because that's the only way we were both going to get through them safely. Perfect. Until the last lap and the chicane before the final hairpin. I was right up behind him and he broke slightly earlier than I would have...unfortunately the little tap resulted in him going off line to the side and not having enough run off and piling into the wall. I was pretty embarrased about it and apologized instantly because it was a diamond race until that point.

He was absolutely fine about it. His words were 's**t happens'. Now thats the attitude. So many people would have instantly whipped out their 'wtf, noob!' card on that when it was an honest mistake due to slight differences in style. Usually I'd just go a bit to the side of someone to soak up any differences in braking but in that situation I couldn't and it went wrong.

Totally agree. I had a similar race last night and got knocked at a corner but it was good to have raced with that person. We were trading places for most of the race and although I lost due to the knock, we have to realise that this is just a game and people are just trying to have fun and race. Sometimes someone goes a little overboard and I can totally understand that as long as he is not an @$$ about it or doing anything stupid like purposely knocking people and not trying to race.

I think generally most people view hotlapping as a way to finetune their setups and get used to the track. Although technically hotlapping is not that but thats what people view them as.

But sometime it can be fun just as something different than the usual race. Just racing all the time can be a bit dull if thats all you do. Hotlapping challenges yourself without the distraction of other racers.
