Hi, I came back to LFS after 9 years. I have done some mainly AA races. I found LRL just after Round2 ended! May I still join? I'm sorry but I couldn't see correct thread to post in. I made my skin yesterday Smile

omg. i wasn't aware sports and shooting games were so advanced now. i'm back into LFS after 10 years off, but in the interim it seems the sports and fps simulations now include:

1) football fields dry out on certain patches due to local drainage and footfall, and clumps of dirt build up next to where the boots slide
2) consumption of ammunition affects the overall weight and thus speed of travel as well as speed of aiming
3) fps players can lend their load-out to another player who hasn't qualified in rank to get those items yet
4) participants performance is reduced until they warm up, and tails off again if they get too hot
5) the sports players can have restrictions to their aspiration (probably some sort of face-mask), or add a weight penalty if server decides
6) the contact with the ground is customizable, with different compounds on footwear depending on the type of session and the play style of each player (and every stud is simulated individually)
7) they have to deal with games of 8 hours and more, with each player being substituted once or more, making strategy of the utmost importance
8) the sandbox style of these games allows for football players to change to a demolition style and take each other out, for a last man standing to then proceed to the line
9) sandbox also allows the football players to add new lines and objects on to the sports field, and play at bank heists with cops and robbers
10) wear and tear on the equipment progressively causes drop in performance and increased chance of failure during a match
11) sound has evolved from samples to every single footstep being fully modelled as to how it echoes around the environment

there must be no reason to play the real thing any more. the sports grounds will no doubt stay empty when lock-down ends, due to lack of customization options compared to these true sandboxes Smile

I have come back to LFS (and online racing) during lockdown, after 9 or 10 years away. I've had 3 good nights of racing, without incident, enjoying new car and track combinations that I previously didn't have lots of experience of - like a new game!

Then I attempted to join Brasil Gran Turismo host. It would not let me join track (BL GP) until I had a 1:36 PB on LFSW. I didn't ever do hotlaps in the past, so I set one then was able to join.

From last place, I slowed and avoided contact on turn one, passing 3 cars who had spun. On the chicane, I was pushed to the right, and since I saw 2 others going between the 2nd chicane curb and the wall, I followed them. However, they hit each other and spun, and I slammed right into them (rather than swerve into cars on the tarmac I may add).

Imagine my horror when someone voted to ban me as I proceeded down the straight in last place! I stopped the car on the grass at the end of the straight, and managed to get in a 'Me?' and a 'Why?' and then I was kicked forever. I am flabbergasted, as I have never had this happen before.

I don't even know if they spoke English, but if anyone knows a way to contact this host, please let me know. I'm not sure if maybe they don't like people from UK or if they just don't like new people on their server? Or maybe they have a lot of lag and it looked different from their point of view (249ms ping to server - maybe racers in Brazil are still running on dial-up, meaning ping to the other racers could be another 200-300ms on top of my 249ms to the server?). Anyway, I was so shocked that I didn't have time to save a replay to review Frown

this looks very interesting. i only recently started driving an automatic in real life. however, i loaded LFS and it auto-updated to 0.6B before i could try mod. do i have to wait for new version of AT mod? it keeps saying "LFS not loaded or car not on track" and i changed mode to 2 and port to 11111

well said Quarazhi. the original poster asked about twin turbo in XRG specifically. but really the point is can twin turbos be programmed/enabled in LFS?

i would love to race a tuned XRG too. would be fun to be similar power/weight ratio as XRT and then i try to keep up (with my smaller tyres). good alternative to the air restriction or weight handicap if i want to race someone who is slightly slower than me.

in real life people buy according to their budget.
for brand new cars, it is sometimes cheaper to upgrade a lower model in some way rather than pay 50% extra for the top of the line model (and you have the sleeper-looks aspect).
for middle-aged cars, it can be cheaper to buy a faster model in the range rather than upgrade everything yourself (depends who is doing the work).
for those on very low budget, they buy a very old, very low model in the range, and gradually save enough to start modifying.

so i think all types of cars are valid. there is no such thing as a stupid request! but i realise the devs need to keep the racing in some sort of classes. now that there are much more configurable servers, perhaps the devs can relax this and let the servers choose the classes

can you have a normal widescreen monitor in the middle, then a smaller monitor at either side but rotated into portrait mode (obviously matching the width of the smaller side monitors to the height of the larger main monitor) ?

the side monitors would also be at 45 degrees when looking at a plan view of the desk, so overall allowing me a huge fov width for a small desk with restricted space!

one wheel i used to have had disabled controls for use instead of pedals. ie there were analogue paddles under the gearshift paddles.

i think they operated on the same axes as the real pedals, however. this would mean you would have to use different pedals for gas/brake, and it would only work in games which allowed 2 controllers to be defined at once

+1 to this idea!

well i am +1 for clutch as an option. i tend not to drive with it, but i would like to have the odd race - as long as you can tell the option is enabled on the server screen it should not waste anybody's time

Quote from Shotglass :
2) shifting up is completely hit and miss for me the only way to get remotely consistent shifts is by using a button clutch (and even that doesnt always work for reasons i cant work out at all)
3) the button clutch doesnt work with autoclutch on for reasons i cant figure out either

i read the manual which came with 1.0.3 but nowhere did it mention what 'clutch speed up' and 'clutch speed down' mean?
i have tried auto-clutch and G25 clutch and there seems to be no difference between the min (50ms) and the max (1000ms). does this only apply to button clutch?

Quote from Nitrous13270 :I was driving on Blackwood Reversed with RB4 in auto gear. I was at gear 3, applied brake, and pressed shift down during midturn and somehow the car went into reverse all of a sudden, skipping 2nd, 1st, and neutral gear. I'm using a MOMO steering wheel with paddles to shift btw... not an H-Shifter.

since it happened when your were both cornering and braking at the same time, and it did not happen before, my hunch is it might be related to the implementation of the new ABS? (not sure how)

Robt - did this happen to you before ABS was introduced to LFS?

Quote from Zen321 :About the transfer from calorifical energy. Yes, burning a liters of fuel produces a lot of energy through the form of heat. However, it is not the heat that powers (well indirectly it does) the cars. It is the expansion of thoses gases, which then is transformed into longitudinal force (pistons), which is then changed into rotational force (crankshaft). To the heat is not really used here (even if the heat is the cause of the expansion of gases in the cylinder).

Maybe to improve efficieny should we add a water tank around the exhaust catalyst, so that the heat will make the water boil. This would be, of course, coupled to a steam engine located in the back of the car, which would be linked to the transmission, so that we have extra efficiency ?

i thought of that a few years ago, then i was sitting in a waiting room 2 years ago and reading a magazine for recent BMW buyers, where they were actually talking about doing this soon! however it only becomes possible due to new materials which weigh less than the old-fashioned steam engines, otherwise the saved energy would be at the expense of increased weight to move around.

is the VW scirocco in LFS diesel? website says:

i am all for reviving the diesel idea! especially now we have air intake restrictions and weight bias, you can just about make any petrol car in LFS, and check out how different mods would affect it! i have never had a diesel car and i want to see how it would differ

is this just hotlapping or can we arrange a full race this way?

i'm assuming 5th gear on default RACE_S setup for now. did we decide on a track yet?

Quote from kaynd :Bob’s setups are fine.

I just made some aggressive adjustments on camber and tire pressures settings to take the maximum amount of grip in that small given time the auto X course last.

has anyone worked out improvements to gear ratios on this set?

Quote from Boris Lozac :I did some driving licence layouts..
Nothing special, a sideways reverse parking(did i said this right), and i did some videos of various parking situations...
I think it can be very useful of learning this in LFS, but preferably with a 900 degree wheel.
My brother got the hang of parking in reverse in LFS, since he has trouble with that in real life..

excellent - can you post it in the layouts section and link to it here please?

yes i have the 900 degree DFP so should be rockin'!

i was thinking since i have the trackir so she can look around, it would help with teaching reversing.

also, i can get her do it for a couple of minutes whenever, since the nearest quiet road suitable for teaching these manoevres in my city is almost 10 minutes away.

then i can also start on teaching the oversteer/understeer techniques in safety
Driving Test Layout

My girlfriend had about 5 driving lessons last year, but cant afford it now.

There are realistic road driving setups out. I wonder if someone could make some 'driving test' layout?

Ideally what I would like is a parallel park, a reverse into a car park space, a reverse round a corner, a correct-width road for 3 point turn etc...
