2010 V1 season

Hi Dennis.

We will be running this year. Unfortunately we got the run around from one of the new F1 teams last year so we missed the season. As it happens that turned out to be a good thing, the reasons for which will become apparent when we start up again, hopefully mid season. We may actually start racing a bit later than that but we will make an announcement by then.

Cheers, Jay.

I would just like to congratulate all in doing a great job on the day, very good. I have had time to go over some of the data and start to make sense of the day, which as Sam has mentioned was very last min. We had the opportunity to use the Rockingham track through the racing steps and its looking like, had we the time one of the guys would have gone on further, we just simply didn't have the time to put the training in place. This is all really positive news, mainly because the data we have collected online is already lining up with what we are getting on track.

Thanks to all, Jay.

Hi all, I have been reading your posts with interest. The vast majority of your comments have more than an element of truth in them, the simple reason being the people racing cars are as diverse as you guys running in a sim. A mate of mine was one of the regular Mclaren simulator drivers, he was part of the project from the very beginning and has only recently been poached by another F1 team. They have a hole department dedicated to analysing the data that comes from the just the human aspect of the interaction, spend millions and they still don't get it right all the time. Please keep on with the discussion, eveyone has a valid view point.

I am very pleased to say that it has been the pasion for the sport that has driven V1 partners to get involved and stay with it, not the commercial possibilities, this is why we will be successful in our mission. I would like to thank all of those people that have put up with my constant pushing and moving targets.

The site will launch on the 6th of July after the GP. If everyone could join up and and start filling up the youtube / face book sections (Racingi/id) and help spread the word it would be most appreciated.

Thanks once again to all, Jay.

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEADIATE USE

What is V1 Championship? WWW.v1championship.com
It’s a free to enter competition to find a naturally talented racing driver……..V1 Championship Limited was founded by motor racing engineer Jay Marshall. Its mission - to create a series of tests that when put together in a competition format will find the best naturally talented racing drivers.

Making the competition free to enter is giving every one the opportunity to show they have what it takes to be the next Lewis Hamilton.

How does the competition work?
The first stages of V1 are a series of tests which include driving a racing simulator* on a pc computer.
For some of the competitors a psychometric test will follow (a multiple choice questionnaire that allows us find out more about the competitors – not just if they are fast on a computer.)

Finally a select group will go forward for testing in karts and cars – this will be determined by the preceding online testing.

The first year winners will go forward for training, testing or racing.
Depending on the age, attributes and experience of the winner, he/she will enter one or more of the following championship/driver programs:
British Karts http://www.s1series.co.uk/
The Racing Steps Foundation http://www.racingsteps.co.uk/
Formula BMW http://bmw-motorsport.com/ms/en/index.html

When does it launch?
Servers go live on 6th July 2008

About V1

All the events and processes are designed to locate, fund and nurture future motor racing champions at no expense to the individuals/entrants.**
Entry to V1 will be open to all ***, not just existing motor sports fans and on 6th of July 2008 we go live on line immediately after the British GP for V1 free practice Racing. (There will be criteria that have to be met for entrants to get into the final stage of karts and cars).
To enter the V1 Championship participants must register online at www.v1championship.com and download the racing simulator (game). This software has been developed to the highest technical standard to give the closest experience possible to driving a real car, it has been used by many drivers recently including two of this years current F1 drivers.

Racing in the simulator (game) the entrants practice, qualify and race against each other online. There is no limit to the amount of time that each person can practice in the free races (there will be a maximum of 12 drivers on the track in a race).

The schedule of the V1 official qualifying sessions and races will fall in line with those of the 2008 F1 calendar when each entrant will be informed weather they have made it through from free practice. The V1 Championship online qualifying and races start an hour before and half an hour after each relative Formula 1 event. The exact times for each country are determined by the start and finish time of the local daytime television coverage of the F1. Thus:
……………….
-1 Hour. V1 1st qualifying
0 Hours. Formula 1 qualifying broadcast
+ Half an Hour. V1 2nd qualifying
………………..
-1 Hour. V1 Race 1
0 Hours. Formula 1 Race broadcast
+ Half an Hour. V1 Race 2

The Racing Simulator not only allows the contestants to race each other but also acts to feed V1 the entrants driving data. Once received V1 computers analyse and filter those results, automatically progressing the fastest and most promising drivers to the Psychometric Profiling Stage. PHYCHO-WHAT. A scientific series of questions that will give us information about the competitors, - are they competitive and committed, can they take instruction, work as a team etc. This is the final online stage.

Once an entrant has proven him/herself across all online stages they will then qualify for the real world, Physical and Psychological Stages. And finally each race driver will be studied across a range of vehicles.

It is after this journey, through online and real world tests, that V1 will be assured in its declaration of the winner. The successful candidate/s are now offered a tailored training, test and race contract with V1championship Ltd who will guide their careers to their ultimate conclusion.

Depending on the age, attributes and experience of the winner, he/she will immediately enter one or more of the following championship/driver programmes:
British Karts - http://www.s1series.co.uk/
The Racing Steps Foundation - http://www.racingsteps.co.uk/index.htm
Formula BMW - http://bmwmotorsport.com/ms/en/index.html

The winner/s to be entered into the driver programmes/championships will be announced in December 2008/January 2009

Races and V1 events will be broadcasted on V1-TV at www.v1championship.com with the terrestrial television programmes following in 2009

In it’s inaugural year the V1 Championship will be primarily an on line event with the main TV broadcasts planned for year two when we will air an interactive Top Gear meets the Apprentice television program that has been devised and copyrighted. This will not only increase our audience but also expand the driver gene pool affording everyone a chance at the F1 dream.

* The racing simulator is provided by Live For Speed and is recognized within the games industry as one of the best racing simulators available.

** All terms and conditions will be available to finalists – see terms and conditions on www.v1championship.com

*** Certain legal age, health and safety and availability criteria will have to be met.

Hello all. We have a top 3, but can they make it to Daventry. To make travel arrangements a bit less fraught lets make it next Saturday the 9th 11:00 at Fortecs premises in Daventry NN11 8PG, V1 is based in the right hand of the 2 Fortec buildings. I will leave it to you guys to inform each other as to your availability. Please bring with you some form of identity and any one under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a relative/guardian and be able to prove it, once you have decided who can make it, if you can drop us a line that will be it. Otherwise see you there. Cheers Jay.

Quote from Bawbag :Where abouts will it actually be and when? (Like a weekend or a week day) And how much notice the the top 2 get before the actual date of this test? Just asking because a trip down to England would need some planning like getting days of work and things like that.

Thanks,

If the top three are prepared to get them selves here we will make the static sim we use is in Daventry available and you can have a look around a FBMW. Some of you guys are in other countries and I don't want to put anyone out, I'll be asking as many questions as you will.

To avoid disappointment I want to make it clear this is not a fast track to a foot in the door, every one will have to go through the process again and the psychometrics. So if you do'nt mind being a guine pig for a day we'll call 31st of jan 24:00 the cut of and either the sat or sun for the visit. I might have to postpone the process for a week but we're good at the moment.

Quote from super_hoops1967 :so how does this work then? the top 5 from the leaderboard on the site get invited down or something?

when's the closing date?

There's no closing date, we have'nt launched yet we're testing every thing. Lets see what the fastest time is in a week say and the top two that can actually get to Fortec, can come, have a go on the set up we have here and be a tester for a day. You will not drive a real car. Sorry

Quote from ebola :I wasnt actually lying to get through, basically the web site kept saying I didnt meet the criteria so I was just changing things to see what had an impact on my application. As soon as I put it to 18 it was accepted and then it was too late. I cant say Im particularly proud of myself for doing this

And as you all can probably see I wont be impressing them with my skill. Its interesting what Jay said about taking 12 people purely from the online application I think some people will absolutely crumble. I think there are going to be ALOT of people who are quite average at LFS and may not get noticed who would absolutely excel in the BMW.

This sounds interesting, do you mean as well as the 12 potential drivers? If thats not an incentive to practice then I dont know what is!

Yes, I've got to start getting my head around the differences between you guys and people who race in the real world. J

Quote from Viper93 :Thanks for the input Jay! Sounds like you could use a little gym time yourself! That lump is normal, just feed it beer and it usually settles down =)

I will have to upload a lap. I viewed the site at work and it must have blocked that section because I had totally missed it. Even for a chance to sit in a simulator would be great, and I live near Silverstone which is even better! The static simulator sounds like a great treat for anyone.

Shame us 'oldies' cannot compete, but it's understandable and nothing unexpected.

:edit: posted up a laptime, it's not the greatest and I can do better, but it's the best I could come up with in the two hours. I have not tried, but is there a possibility for people to update their HLVC laptime on the V1 Championship site?

I see that not many people have put in a lap time, would you want more promotion in LFS than just a forum thread? I am an admin for the CTRA system and we could possibly add some promotion for you into the multiplayer side of LFS. We run a single seater server which uses the FBM and every day we see full grids and there are always people on the server anytime of the day. Through our whole server suite we run approximately 400 races a day. PM me if your interested and we can get the ball rolling. http://www.raceauthority.com/stats.asp

That would be great, we need as much data as poss, I'm defiantly going to bring some of your fastest guys down to fortec asap.
We're lauching the online search in a couple of weeks in the nationals and motor press, I just itching to get started even knowing we're going to have a shed load of problems. Cheers, J

Quote from chanoman315 :you are the one that made V1 possible right?... i want to ask you a question... do you have something related to Fortec Racing?

Yes I am the MD of V1 Championship ltd. Our first stages of the of-line testing will be at Fortec. 12 online applicants will go through almost the same testing prosess as they did online. Repeting the online prosess of-line is for the TV, to make sure they were being honest online and to start to see if the applicants can handle pressure under the spotlight.

Please feel free to ask any questions. I'm affraid my response times may vary though. Cheers, Jay.

Quote from DeKo :i play Five a side football for an hour and a half at a time going at full tilt mostly, never really tried 50 push ups in a minute, which will probably be impossible, but im pretty much fit enough. its the height and weight, Some whippet weighing about a stone would have a decent advantage over me.

And if i lost any weight i would be far too skinny.

Our fitness guy is pretty good, he's worked with Jenson Button and others, but I've got admit when we went to interview him for the promo it did make me think, shit I must be getting old. I just got the stop watch out and I managed 11 push ups in 10 seconds and pulled something. I'm 42, slowly getting a bear gut and as I'm writing this, my man breasts are acing, my wrists heart and a strange lump has appeared in my abdomen.

You guys are going to kill me..... I've looked at some of your laps, there is some pretty tidy lines here. I can not wait to get some of you guys in a real car. I 'm thinking about asking some of the more local to Silverstone area, down to to have a go on the static sim I have built based at Fortec, start getting a feel for what we're going to have to look out for in the conversion process.

I'm affraid St4Lk3R is right and then some.

Later.j.
