"For this Christmas I wish I could have a running game server"

"Ohohoh, boy, do you believe you were good enough ?"

"hummm, not sure, so can I have an answer from Franky ?"

"..."

Seriously hope everything is ok for Dean, after being annoyed about my server, I start to worry about the guy.

Merry Christmas all !

Hi Franky,

Hi Dean,

I've just restored the configuration I used to have on .141 machine. However I did noticed a small change. Apparently Airio can't connect to the server using '127.0.01' in airio.con1.txt but the public address works

Here's the error I've got in airio log.txt
12.07.10 17:01:19 #1 Opening connection to 127.0.0.1:17525
12.07.10 17:01:20 #1 Connection failed...

Changing the conf with the public address fixed the issue

Don't know if I'm alone to have the issue but was thinking it might help to post.

Cheers,

As many of us my TCAdmin is still stuck since at least 72h.

Hope Dean will get better, that's the most important but we also should have some kind of support.

The Gentlemen Drivers Club, or GDC, is a group who take racing serious but do not think winning is the only thing that matters. We share the track with our fellow drivers and try not to interfere with each other. We realize that the safe environment of sim racing encourages us to push harder than we would in real life. To restore that excitement that goes with wanting to go fast and, at the same time having to keep our cars under control, we have adopted measures that result in consequences for mistakes. The consequences result in the drivers who make too many errors having increased ballast in the next race while careful drivers have lower ballast for the next race. To read more about our rating system, please visit the Gentlemen Drivers Club rules/ratings page.

We also have driver schools for less experienced drivers with instructors to answer questions, offer driving and setup advice, and explain the rules. We have created our own restricted car classes so that less experienced drivers can drive easy cars in the beginning and progress to more challenging cars as they improve.

So if you have a mature attitude toward sim racing and want to race with friendly people who feel the same way then maybe the Gentlemen Drivers Club is for you. Check out how to join the GDC at the join-us page.

In November the Gentleman Drivers Club held a series of test races to introduce our restricted cars and get some experience at organizing events. We are now ready to move on to our next phase. That is the introduction of our safety ratings. After that we will initialize the driver ratings for our members and begin official races.

Most drivers think that the definition of a "clean" driver is one who does not hit another driver while fighting for a position. But if a driver spins and gets hit by another driver then it is generally considered as just a part of racing. We in the GDC take a somewhat different attitude. Each driver owes it to his fellow competitors to maintain a "reasonable" amount of control of his car so that he does not ruin the races of his fellow drivers. I have seen a signiture that says "If you feel you are in control, you aren't going fast enough." We believe that if you are not in control then you are a menace to the other drivers. Going flat out is fun but if all the drivers are doing that then you will eventually become a victim of their exhuberance. Most drivers want the other drivers to be more careful while they continue to go flatout. We can't have it both ways. To them YOU are the other driver.

So the GDC is going to use a safety rating to try to reach a balance between excitement and safety. Drivers who keep their safety standards above a certain level will be rewarded with lighter cars whereas drivers who drive beyond their talents will have weight added to theirs. As in iRacing, each lap you drive adds to your safety rating. Each time you spin, or get all four wheels off the track, or each time you cause another driver to loose control by causing contact, your safety rating will go down. A driver will have the most success when he balances his aggressiveness with the need to maintain a light car. It will add a bit of strategy to the racing as well as making it less frustrating.

Since we will only accept gentlemen into our club, we will expect all drivers to officiate their own driving mistakes. Just as golfers are expected to report their violations of the rules, we will take responsibility for our errors. At the end of each race a driver will be asked to enter his mistakes. Each spin counts as a mistake. Each time a driver gets all four tires of the paved surface, it counts as a mistake. Each time he hits another car and causes it to lose significant time, it counts as two (2) mistakes. When a drivers spins and gets hit by another driver, it counts as two mistakes, not three. Spins and offs are counted as one mistake if they are all grouped together in one incident. Once you regain control then another spin or off is a mistake.

At the end of each race drivers will park their cars at the next corner after the finish line. The admins will then update the driver points and award safety points based on the number of laps completed. Then the admins will ask the drivers to enter their mistakes. A driver does so by going to the chat window and keying in "%sry N" (without quotes), where N is the number of mistakes. For example a driver with two spins would enter: %sry 2

Then a driver can type "%stats" and his new driver rating and safety rating will be displayed in the chat text along with his ballast for the next event. Except for the driver making his inputs, the calculations are all done by the GDC insim software.

Please visit the event page on our website.

Our first events are now over. Saturday had a few glitches but Sunday ran smoothly. The racing was fun, we made some new friends, and we learned a lot. The drivers drove like gentlemen. From looking at the replays I saw only one contact incident that resulted in a car spinning. The driver that caused the incident then slowed his car until the other driver could get back in front of him.

The results will be posted to the slowdrivers.net website in a couple of days, please check http://www.slowdrivers.net/ind ... etails/2-gdc-feature-race.

Those who participated are invited to email us any comments or suggestions by using the contact info at the website.

Quote from Cawwa : Just saw that if you drive Class 1 car you can choose between FX1, RB1, XR1 and FZ1. Is that right?

Hi,

The FZ1 is a class1 car but it's quicker (and more difficult) than other class1 cars, it should be a class 1.5 :-).

XF1/LX1/XR1/RB1 are almost equivalent in lap times on tracks like AS1.

Thank's for your nice feedback !

The Gentleman Drivers Club will be hosting events on 13 November and 14 November. We are a group who want to create a club based on sportsmanship, good attitude, and safety. More like the racing before 1970 when auto racing was a sport for gentlemen and not like it has been since 1970, that is, a business where the cut-throat tactics of blocking and crowding fellow drivers off the track are normal practices. For full details of the events go to our website, slowdrivers.net. The following is just a short summary of our plans.

These will be unofficial, "let's get acquainted" events to demonstrate our driver rating system (similar to iRacing), get possible future members familiar with our training cars and our enter level race cars, and introduce our safe driving ballast reward system. The ballast system will not be used in these events because of its complexity but drivers will be able to see how their safety ratings would be effected by their safe driving.

Drivers of all skill levels are welcome but, attitude and safe driving are more important to us than how fast you are. We intend to make driver instruction sessions a part of our future plans mixed in with fun races in different level cars to challenge both talented and not so talented drivers.

So please visit our website and feel free to ask any questions here in this thread.
