Quote from ebola :Basically just A graphics card will help, 6600GT will do just fine. This will take load off of the CPU and since LFS is CPU intensive will help alot. Im guessing you will need an AGP graphics card but dont take that as gospel.

The AMD Sempron is AMD's budget range but I think a 2800 will give you a decent enough FPS. It may begin to struggle on fuller grids.

However, adding a graphics card will also increase power requirements so if you have a cheap power supply (which you probably have) this is another thing to consider. Just thought I'd dispel the myth that the higher the wattage the better the power supply!! The ampage is also very important so it is better to get a 400W with a high ampage (ie Antec) than a cheap 600W power supply. The reason I say this is I spent a few days diagnosing weird boot problems when I found an answer on the deepest darkest forum about AMD's ampage requirements. Installed a good power supply and the problem went away.

Sorry for babbling

HTH

Just one more thing though, am I maybe better off just spending an extra £200 and buying a brand new pc coz the cost sounds like it's going to mount up very quickly...new graphics card, new power supply and perhaps even after that the system may be bottlenecked by a poor CPU. I bought my (now) ex girlfriend a new pc over the summer there for £390 of Dell and it seemed decent enough, even came with a 19" tft monitor which is something else I need as this one I have is a bit ong in the tooth!

Quote from ebola :I have a 1.6GHz AMD Turion with SIS integrated graphics. LFS runs but very badly 20FPS with no other cars and all settings turned down.

Not looking good mate

So you reckon the graphics card is the main problem then?

Whats the best one I can get for around £100

What are the chances the game didn't download properly?

Quote from Jakg :eeep, looks like SiS integrates solution

Am I looking at a new graphics card then I take it? Like I said before the computer had to be rebuilt after the power supply blew a few components, and it had to be done on a bit of a budget as I'd just handed out a couple of hundred a couple of weeks before for the computer, I've no idea what standard of hardware was put into it at the time I just wanted it up and running again.

What do you guys reckon then?

Quote from the_angry_angel :You should have "Display Adapters" within that hardware list, above Floppy Drives. Can you expand that and tell us what it says?

Failing that goto Start > Run, type "dxdiag", click ok. Wait for dxdiag to load. It may ask you a question (it doesnt matter if you say yes or no really). Within dxdiag goto the "display" tab. The top left should have the same information.

This is all I could turn up mate

Thinking I should maybe just upgrade my graphics card and maybe stick in some more RAM but if I could at least get it up and running it'd keep me going for the meantime

Many thanks

Quote from MadCatX :Sorry mate, but we need at least rough spec of your machine. CPU type, RAM size and graphics card model will be enough. Unless we know it, we cannot be much helpful.

She's an AMD Sempron 2800+
2Ghz with 480MB RAM
Maybe this will help a little

Quote from the_angry_angel :Sounds like it could be a drivers issue.

Have you tried updating the graphics drivers recently, or made any other changes before it did this (I assume you were using the demo before hand)?

Could be that ya know, what's best to use? I'll put up more details of my hardware later on, can't remember what its running at the moment as a lot of stuff was replaced last year after a faulty power supply fried a few bits n bobs. This was the first time the game was installed on the machine. Where can I get new drivers from?

Many thanks

Gary

Right I just bought a full version of LFS, downloaded the zip file, extracted al the files to a folder and ran the .exe file, game starts to load but the screen is all screwed up, like I can see about 5 or 6 identical moving images on the screen. Obviously I can't play like this. Has this ever happened to anyone on here? Dont really have a clue what the spec on my machine is to be honest but it's (or should be fairly up to date) it's only a year old.
