I'm not so concerned about being handicapped, but I think that it's not suitable for demo races, since the cars are underpowered there. And so I'm not a fan of it for demo.

btw: you won't prevent me from doing those races with just slight handicaps^^

Hm if you really want to try this out, ok, but I'm a bit worried that we will loose lots of regulars with this measure. The responses so far for the handicaps wasn't that great. It will equal somehow, but I doubt it will go in a positive way.

I think the overall idea you have in mind is good, but if we want to have dyn. handicaps we must define what the max. handicap is and how much you will get for victory.

30kg are pretty much for those demo cars. 25kg was quite the max. amount we should considering in this feature, like last time it was a slow down in laptimes of about -0,6 to -0,8 seconds. In my opinion 15-20kg should be the max handicap.

But how much should the winner gets? Maybe starting with 3, 2, 1kg (takes five wins to be at max) for the first three, but then when you are at max or couldnt finish in the first three there should be a reduction in the handicap for the next race. So in this way it could be a consideration for the events, otherwise it end up in a lot of frustration.

But still I'm not such a fan of handicaps

Another 20kg so it will be +45kg next time. And with 45kg I dont see any sense for me in racing, it's like with tied up hands and feet....

+25kg was quite hard, even though I managed somehow to get by, but in my opinion it's a joke with +45kg and only 140hp, anyways what's the highest amount you can get? If the upper limit is infinite it means that you can get a +100kg mass??

Dynamic handicaps will kill this event for sure for the future, even if average drivers can win ONE race, the additional mass of +25kg will kill them in the next race. Or even the 15 or 10 or even 5 kg will make them loose fun. It's hard to find motivation if you know that you have no chance in winning if you have a +25kg, its way too much with these underpowered demo cars. If you have two different cars and want to make them equal then its ok, like with the XFG and XRG, there it make sense, but maybe only air restriction too compense the higher speed of the XRG. But with the dynamic handicap in the FBM events, most of the regular drivers will avoid the event, since even an additional mass of 5-10kg will slow you down significantly.

I would prefer option 2 over 1, too, but a must tire change is still my favourite for the 1h races, otherwise you could fill up your car and just drive and pit 1 lap before the pitwindow closes

So just like Framaris described, strategy and tactic would become more important.

Sounds great so far, but what about the qualification lengh for all the BL1 races, 25 mins as usual? Maybe we can even try the more realistic way here, with spec/pit only from pitlane.

For the sprint races I would prefere no-pitstops in the 3*15mins races and a must-pit, if you really wish for it in the 2*25mins. Reversed grid, sure it's always a good idea for multiple sprint races in a row. I think first 6 or 8 should start in reversed order.

But why don't you make the endurance races 1h long, it seems more resonable for me then. Pitstops only in a pit-window? I say yes, like a pit open from min 25-40(or an even bigger window?). And you have to do pitworks, like at least one tire change.

Quote from NewAssault :I just got vote banned from AA demo racing for doing nothing :O I was the leading car(FBM), tried to overtake the slowest car in the back(XRG)...then he just slams into my rear tyre which makes me spin...in the next race there was two FBM racers who just kept crashing all the other drivers on the straight, I tried to vote kick and ban them, but not enough accepted the votes, then they just vote ban me instead, I believe their names were dallahz and DevilDrivesYou, both were rude, flaming me, AND serveral attempts in crashing me on the straight and when I pitted....

My apoligy if I'm posting in the wrong place, Discovered this website a couple of days ago

Hmm...sounds like a very familiar kick/ban situation. Do you have a replay? Otherwise votebans only last for 12 hours.

I guess your racer name is [RedBull]Webber, your ban will expire in about 1.5 hours so don't worry.

You don't need to register just come in time. No there won't be a second race, only one per week. Those who can't join have to wait until next week, since there are only 15 slots on a demo server.

The limitations will come into effect with the next one coming up on saturday. And just like Gelin said, there will always be some contacts in racing you can't avoid them just by putting on a PB limit that is lower than 1.14:00. I've seen lots of people who can drive 1.13 or even 1.12 times, but aren't capable of driving side by side races. The safety rank limitation should be ok for the start to filter out those drivers. If it's still necessary to lower the PB limit I will decide after the next races. But I don't think that the problems are caused just by the "slower" drivers. In my opinion a good racer must be capable to adjust their speed to the given situations!

@LTDNavickas: I watched the replay of last night race and the incident at the start was caused by a lagger.

A little update for the event: qualifying will be 20 minutes instead of 10.

@C0r3: Our servers are all online. If you have turned on a filter in LFS it could be a reason why they weren't shown in the connection list. And great to hear that you are back, let's see what you've got on saturday

Ok guys so here are the final informations for the saturday events:

Update: Start time will be 7 pm UTC (8 pm CET/BST, 9 pm CEST/CEDT)

Limitations: PB limit 1.15.00, Safety Ranking on our Server: min. 70%

First will be a 20 min qualification following by a 5 min break so everyone can prepare their cars for the race.

Server: [AA] Demo Racing
Car: FBM
Track: BL1

You race 45 Laps and must pitstop at least once (it's ok to make a stop-and-go pit).

And now some rules (they are just the basics in my opinion):
  • Qualification: don't block a driver on his qulifying lap, use your mirrors and the minimap to avoid those situations
  • Respec the flag rules, espacially the blue flag
  • Don't make use of bomb diving or stupid and too aggressive overtaking moves, you have enough time to analyze your oponent and create an opportunity to overtake
  • If you spinned or accidently crashed clear the racing line as fast as possible and watch your mirrors/minimap before driving back on the track
  • Only use the chat during the race if it's really important
Midrace join will be disabled after lap 5, so that noone can disturb the race.

If you want to join then please finish the race and don't leave after lap 10 or so. Eventough you think it doesn't make sense to finish the race anymore you still can gain some experience for the next time.

That's all I've to say so far, those rules are really just basics so please respect them otherwise you will have to take the consequences.

Looking forward to see you on saturday

Saturday Night Fever on [AA] Demo Racing

Hey boys and girls,

after the spontaneous 45 lap race from yesterday evening that was pretty successful on the second try I want to establish those race types on our [AA] Professional FBM server.

For the start there will be every Saturday at least one 45 lap race with a 10 minutes qualification. Start time will be 7 pm or 8 pm UTC I need to think about it again and will tell you the concrete starting time in the next two days.

The two races yesterday were not bad for a spontaneous "planed" race, the first one could have been better, sorry to all who thinks they were threated unfairly. But the second race was a great success in my opinion, 9 out of 12 saw the checked flag :wow:. It was really a high quality race with very good racers and with very small and only few incidents. So I hope to see you all on next Saturday on our [AA] Professional FBM server.

In terms of organization I have a favour to ask, it would be nice if one or two member of the AA team or one of our limads could join me to guarantee a smooth race. Just post it here if you are interested or write me a pm.

I'm looking forward to see many of you next Saturday

Quote from EQ Worry :So I think it will be one evening per car, with different combo each week (or every two weeks)? Considering BL2, I see two options: a) Make it complete demo, with XFG&XRG races (separate) on BL2 and BL2R, b) skip BL2, stay only on BL1. Personally I prefer the 2nd option. There are not that many demo (or even licensed) people using regularly all 3 cars on BL1, and even less people doing BL2 at the same time. (I know only one, myself. )

Right there will be one evening per car. I like to stick with BL1, too, than to split the series. Because it will be easier with the points management.

Quote from EQ Worry :Another important question is the series organization. If it is open, then I think we must require signups and regular attendance. Hard to get this from demo people though; they come once and then disappear. Also only 12 slots are available in demo (but we can get 13 or even 14 cars on track, if synchronized properly). What if more people would like to seriously take part?

Since we are planing to restructure the AirAttack Racing team this short serie would be a good basis to make future steps. And if the serie should be open and if more than 12 people want to take part, one possible way is to split the racers into two or more groups (lottery) and race on two or more servers and the best 12 will drive for the championship in a final race. Means if there will be two groups the first 6 of each group will fight for the championship in that final race.

And regarding to prices I think it isnt necessary to give any yet. I would say we should wait how this serie will run and then we could think about prices for the next one.

Quote from Gelin SWE :1.Skip the FBM imo, everyone would use it, and basichly no one would use the X cars.
(1A, you could drive one heat with FBM and one with XF, so people get to know the FBM better and get skilled with it?)

I think there's a little misunderstanding. You can't really choose with which car you want to race with, but there will be a round with only XFG and another with only FBM and so on.

Quote from Gelin SWE :2.Drive also on BL2, mix is good, or else people would loose interest i think.

Yeah would be possible. We could drive one race with XFG on BL2 instead of XFG on BL1r.

Hey folks,

we're planing a Demo Racing Series for 2010. It's still in planing phase so if you have any ideas or suggestions you can discuss it here.

How will it look like? You will race with all three demo cars.
First heat: XFG, XRG and FBM on BL1
Second heat: XFG, XRG and FBM on BL1r

You will race with each cars two races in a round.
Quali: 15 min (?)
First race: XFG/XRG 12 laps (?)
FBM 16 laps (?)
Second race: same as the first plus starting grid in reverse finishing order.

I like to race longer distances but it may be too rough for some demo racers, so I think 12/16 laps are fine (~20 min per race).

So it will be 6 rounds with 12 races.

To the rule management we'll use the rules of the Demo FBM series from 2008 with some modifications.

I think with this layout of the serie, it will be very balanced, because you have to deal with three different cars. E.g. a fast FBM driver may be slow with XFG or the other way round. So there will be much more competition between the drivers than in an only FBM serie like in 2008.

That's all so far, concrete informations will come soon.

With my time here on lfs i see lots of things, I've also realized that you can't espect much on demo servers, because as the name said it's (only) demo, so there are mostly beginners there.
But there are some ppl kicking and banning newbies just because they only make use of the command "!tm" and didn't even wait a few laps/races to see how those racers behave. And that surely is not the atmosphere of a demo server.
Of corse I can get a little bit frustrated about those drivers, too, if they are creeping on the racing line but I think you should keep your calm, especially as an Admin/Limad, in those situations and not just throw them from the server.
