Just tested iRacing... must say that I'm not impressed.
I'm having a hard time configuring my G25 to feel natural and direct... did't had not much luck yet. The physics are good but LFS is close... if not right up there. The force feedback feels bad for some reason, and this make whole gameplay suck.
For now I'm sure I'm not gonna spend a lot of money on something that in my opinion isn't that much better then LFS.
Maybe when i have some more time with it and get the controls right i change my mind.... for now: not impressed
You've probably heard of the upcoming game iRacing.com… most beta testers of the game are loving it and the physics should be 'spot on'. I’m very curious how LFS will stand out against this sim. Both have their cons and pro’s.
iRacing: + Real cars with great physics (maybe the best around!) + Laser-scanned real tracks + Great looking! - Expensive - The game is still missing a lot of features… - uhm… did I mention expensive? ;-)
LFS: + Great physics + Very smooth online game play + Great stats and stuff on LFS World - No much real cars (still are great fun to drive) - No real tracks
How do you think LFS will do in future?
I’m definitely gonna check out iRacing when it’s available… but the game must be VERY good in order for me to pay this much.
Well, you have a point... CPU's are fast nowadays (mine will be upgraded big-time today!)
But making a *good* reverb effect is still quite CPU intensive. The current effect implemented is rather delay than reverb wich is a much simpler effect to create. Don't forget that with audio programming, every line of the algorithm code will need to be calculated 44100 times every second!
I don't think reverb will make it sound much better. It does not change the actual engine sound. I think a sample (wav) based engine sound will give the best possible results.
Man, i drive the BF1 all the time... and lap after lap without one single crash! It's just a matter of self-control
I have nice races with this car too.... driving very close to other cars... control is the word!
I think that would be way to CPU intensive to calculate in realtime.
If Scawen is ever going to reconsider the whole sound engine, i'd vote for a sample based (wav) engine. Just like most other games do... it isn't for nothing that virtually all games use this technique. It probably would be lighter on CPU too then calculating the sound in realtime.
Just take a look at the "Car Sound Remixer" mod for LFS and download the v2 soundpack... some cars sound really good!
Sorry but i cant agree... i bet you arn't a BF1 driver!
I'm currently not driving BF1 as much as before because of the sound... so for me this is the most important thing
Scawen, i trust in you... i know you can make it sound better.
I just hope you can do something with my idea (soft clipping).
Please feel free to contact me about it...
I think the sounds are too clean. For example, most engine sounds are so loud, the human ear will register it with a distortion-like effect.
Specially sitting in the car would blow your ears and can never have such a nice and clean sound.
I've made a quick F1 engine-sound test using some simple 'soft clipping' wich IMHO sounds way better already.
Well, noise isn't that bad. As long as it steers smooth.
I associated the noise of my current steer with the way it handles... but if the DFP steers smoothly, it's a bigger pre then the sound it makes.
I'm using a PS2 Logitech Wheel with force feedback. It's the red one (don't know it's name).
At the moment i'm looking for a new steer... and i'd like to know if there are steers that work like arcade-hall steers. These are silent and turn smooth. The one i got now makes a lot noise when i sweep the steer from side to side.
I'm willing to spend about 200 euro's... can anyone recommend me a good steer?
