Yes.
Skins aren't converted to DDS

I recently redownloaded LFS to a new computer. I wanted to save my old skins, so I put it on a USB drive and copied the skins folder. I then replaced the new skins folder with the old skins folder, but when I started LFS, the skins weren't converted to .dds files so they weren't there. I have compressed skins enabled.

I would enjoy this in a "campaign" mode but otherwise seems...out of place.

It'd be much easier to find a spare old steering wheel and use those pedals instead. Or you could use the joystick as a handbrake/gearshift. But if you're good with your hands, go for it.

But how is it possible that mrodgers can play at a better framerate with an even WORSE computer than mine?

Also, Homeless_Drunk, as much as I'd like a new computer my parents think my computer is perfectly fine and I don't need a new one. Sigh

This is definitely a +1.

Windows 2000 is the better platform to use because it supports DX9 and is still updated by Microsoft (until 2010) Besides, it's much more secure than 98.

Quote from D1GP08 :Ok, thanks everyone for your advice. I was woundering, what is the best graphics card to have for lfs? Thanks.

Having a good graphics card isn't going to help you UNLESS you post your EXISTING computer specifications. If you have an AGP card it won't help if you buy a PCI-E card. To find your computer specifications, go to the start menu and find the icon called "run". Post a cropped picture of the first and third tabs ('system' and 'display')

PS. If you don't know, AGP is a type of port that older graphics cards use. All new cards use the PCI-E port, and they aren't interchangeable.

Quote from mrodgers :What do you think a 286 is?

I often wonder myself what kind of computer some people are running when my daughter use to run LFS (patch X) on a Celeron 667 MHz, onboard 16 mb graphics, and 512 mb RAM, and still get 30 FPS in single player with 1 AI or running networked with me as the racing server

Granted, I couldn't go online with the Celeron 667 MHz, but still.... 30 FPS in single player on that? Surely anyone that doesn't have an Intel Extreme Graphics onboard chip can play online with LFS. I use to do it with 40-50 FPS with my onboard ATI chip.....

Something must be wrong with my computer...1.6GHz P4, 512 RAM, and 64MB GeForce 2 and STILL only 10-20 fps (even in singleplayer )

also I recommend getting the 3850 agp model, although a fresh computer would be the best choice. My computer is worse than yours yet I experience similar problems.

Pentium 4 1.6GHz
512 RAM
GeForce 2 MX200 AGP 4x

Highest - 50 fps, aerial view, singleplayer
Average - 15 fps, third person
Grid - 5 fps (1 fps if in cockpit)

I think in order for this to work everyone must be using the same setup (say, hard_track or something) This way it all depends on driver skill and not necessarily the setup.

this update would be helpful if my graphics card supported HVS...sigh

I think LFS just had a collective orgasm.

I want to see something like http://jalopnik.com/cars/ads%2 ... yoo-hoo-mobile-192774.php on an RB4 or XRT. I think it'd be interesting to raise the car as much as possible and cruise around.

I think this should be implemented, but there should be turbo damage as well so if you run full boost too long your turbo would break down and you would lose power. Plus, on some tracks you may want less boost.

When no one is around me, I'm rather relaxed, but when there is a pack of cars around me I tend to concentrate more, especially since my FPS drops to around 5-10.

Pentium 4 1.6 GHz
nVidia GeForce 2 MX100/200
5-10 FPS with full grid

Yeah, my comp sucks.

I really, really, really suck really badly, but I want to give it a whack. I want to try out for a RB4 bracket position.

Quote from T-6 TURBO :that maybe true but its realistic.... in real life u dont shift gears in .2 seconds....thats why i think the guy shifting the gear should be added

The DSG can shift in 8 milliseconds (0.008 sec) Though it isn't a "proper" manual transmission, a skilled driver using a H-gate can do it 500ms (.5 sec), so I'm sure someone like Sabine Schmitt or The Stig could do it in maybe 350ms.

Quote from Niels Heusinkveld :I'm sorry but in 2007 you can't expect any sort of game to run on a sub 2ghz pc, especially when powered by a 3D card that was midrange when it was introduced somewhere in 2000.

The fact that LFS works at all is testimony to how hardware friendly LFS is. But even then you need a 2ghz cpu with something as basic as a Geforce 4 ti 4200 which was a midrange card mid 2002...

Bear in mind that my computer is usually for school stuff, and I only occasionally play games like LFS, so I really don't need a uber computer. Would I like a better CPU? Sure, but at this point I really don't need it.

Oh, and guys, my parents are misers who wouldn't let their children buy stuff with their own money, so I'm stuck with my graphics card and CPU. And it doesn't support HVS, so I'm kinda stuck, but I don't think there's anything wrong with my setup right about now - it's ample, until there are like 20 people on a server. I might have gotten 30-40 fps before, but now I get 10-15 fps and I want to find out why. By the way, I did change the LOD. I might have a virus or trojan or something

I don't see anything out of the ordinary (of course, I suck at computers) but I can't see anything I can't detect.
