dawguk is definately not an exception either - looking back through this thread, there is nothing he has said that is in any way extreme or unreasonable, on the contrary going by his posts in this thread he seems aware of Hamiltons faults and defends him using calm language and sound logic.
If you think he has been in some way extreme in his posts in this thread, you really need to go back and look at his them, then rethink your point of view.

Thanks. I'm not kown for possessing the vocabulary that's sometimes required to make the point that I want to. In fact, most of my posts are written, and rewritten until I can justify my comments with factual representation, in a language and tone that mostly agreeable.

People might call Hamilton fans blinkered, but when those same people are presented with facts (that can be dug up quite easily on the internet), they choose to ignore them completely. And so, the merry-go-round of insults and controversy spins longer and longer.

As such, I'm pretty tired of the discussion, as it's long since run it's course as an actual discussion. I'd hope that some people can agree to disagree, and move on with their lives, instead of letting such disagreements rule their forum existence

Quote from SamH :Glib response.

Not seen this before, had to look it up. For a while, I was thinking "what does this have to do with GTK?"
Quote from SamH :Glib response. They're all glib responses

its what i do... i would have thought ive been here long enough for you to notice

Quote :and I can take it from your responses that you do actually see the points I am making and you accept them.

yes i see and accept them i just think youre overstating their significance far too much

Quote :Only your fingertips and some grim determination fires you on to retort, but your heart isn't in it and that's why you can only muster glib counter-retorts.

i can assure you my heart is in it whenever i go off on a rant about sheep and people willing to be somebody elses pawns

I can totally understand why you think it's overstated and why you don't think there's anything good about people being manipulated like sheep.

I've learned never to underestimate either the value or the significance of the nuance called "feelgood factor". In my politics class at college, I wrote a paper discussing which was the more important job.. a barber/hairdresser or a prime minister. It's not so easy to draw a line under either
ROFL!

Hi

I have always been a supporter of Alonso (since Oz 2005), and was happy he won the championship in 05-06. I just loved the style, and to be honest his luck.

When he was with Hamilton last year, I thought that I would prefer Alonso to win, but would like Lewis to (because I am british). Then the whole stink about favortism came up, and I belive McLaren backed Hamilton, instead of their number 1 driver, alonso.

I still support Alonso. However I admit Hamilton is a good driver, but I hate him!

hmm, Maclaren said that they didn't have a no1 driver Alonso got all exited because he wanted special treatment, so a 'stink' developed between maclaren and alonso... therefor you 'hate' Hamilton?
Hamilton had nothing to do with Alonsos fight with Ron Denis (apart from the fact that he kept beating alonso fair and square on the track).

Why do you choose to irrationaly hate a person who had no direct connection to your reason for hatred ?
Hate is a very strong emotion it means "to feel intense dislike, or extreme aversion or hostility."... the kind of thing that people feel when someone robs them, or some criminal on the news murders children etc.
How come so many here feel hate towards Hamilton and then give irrational reasons that have little if anything to do with Hamilton e.g. 'Alonso vs Maclaren'... 'James Allen said Hamilton is the new Senna' etc.

Just because you don't explicitly like someone doesn't mean you have to hate them.
Do you really hate him? if so what is the real reason?
Quote from col :How come so many here feel hate towards Hamilton and then give irrational reasons that have little if anything to do with Hamilton e.g. 'Alonso vs Maclaren'... 'James Allen said Hamilton is the new Senna' etc.

I suspect that there is a direct correlation to age.
I am no fanboy of Hamilton though ofcourse I want him to win. I support him even though some of his mistakes will go down in history.

It seems though from reading this thread that many of the reasons people 'hate' Hamilton are the Mclaren issue last year with Alonso or down to media hype/coverage that isn't anything to do with Hamilton. Though when you think about it to be able to 'hate' someone you don't know personally, when all you really see is their media face aswell, seems stupid to me personally. A driver should be liked or disliked because of his/her actions on track. While Hamilton has done some stupid things he has, imo, got an attacking driving style nd actually makes moves which I love.
Lewis Hamilton made of dots
Wow that dot thing is wierd.

But amazing, nevertheless. Must have taken yeaaars.
That's really impressive, I'm sure someone would pay a lot of money for a lifesize picture of Hamiltons head.
Quote from Greboth :While Hamilton has done some stupid things he has, imo, got an attacking driving style nd actually makes moves which I love.

Amen.

@Hamilton: Have a great race today.

Win or lose, people are actually talking about the sport again. Two pages devoted to F1 in yesterdays paper, and after Spa I had a debate about F1 rules and tactics at work. This is with work colleagues who would have previously regarded my interest as class betrayal at best. That's cool.
Quote from SamH :The other view is that right now, Britain could do with a bit of something positive to focus on. We don't have a good economy and all the food prices are going up, none of us can afford our mortgages all of a sudden and we're worry about losing our jobs. Some predictions have us topping 3 million unemployed before we see an up-turn. We're turning into a nanny state and we feel like we're suffocating thanks to a left-wing big brother government that would like nothing but to brand us with some indelible mark for easy identification, like cattle. Hamilton represents something that is GOOD about Britain. It may just be a veneer but that's not what's important. With Hamilton comes the implication that Brits are good for something. It is a powerful and valuable illusion, especially at a time like this.

20 years ago, it was inconceivable that a black guy could achieve a position at the pinnacle of motorsports. My generation grew up learning and/or knowing that racism was a bad thing, but forced to grow up with it anyway. We were an intermediary generation.. aware of bad things and tasked with changing them. Hamilton represents an aspect of that struggle for freedom from an archaic, ignorant and paranoia-exploiting political undercurrent - the same national socialist movement that Germany suffered from in the 30s was a genuine and tangible threat to Britain from the mid 60s to the late 70s. Hamilton in many ways represents victory over that racist mentality and, to those of us who remember those times, he represents an aspect of progression for British society. It's something that I imagine would be difficult for a young person to perceive today (and it's why I didn't bore you with it initially), but to me it's very poignant. Not Hamilton as an individual per sey, but an ideal and a measure of how far we've come so far, collectively, as a nation.

Perhaps it would only make sense to someone else about my age who was as politically active as I was in their youth and who REMEMBERS how things were, I dunno.

Sorry to pull up an old thread, but I just read this post and wanted to say I hear ya !!
Want to know why the other drivers hate him?

He's young, he's very talented, he's black, and he's British. That's why they don't like him.
But the other drivers are young, talented, white and a nationality too. So do they hate themselves and each other too? Or did you forget to put your brain in again?
Quote from S14 DRIFT :Want to know why the other drivers hate him?

That's just bullshit. I agree with Tristan.
Maybe you'll engage your brain as well to realise this is his, what..?Second seaon in F1? He was almost WC last season, and he was this year. He is the youngest driver to win the title iirc.

Obviously broad strokes aside, he's the only real black driver in the championship (and it's evident the fans don't like him because of this as well, all the racist comments he recieves), and he's the what? First British champion since Damon Hill? That's like what 10 or something years?
He's also the youngest driver to find himself in a car that's capable of winning the championship and could afford/justify to give him millions of miles of testing.

What difference does it make how long since we've had a British WDC (12 years by the way). Does that make him more talented? Did Ferrari not winning the championship for 21 years make them better? A few people use the colour of his skin as a source of a jibe. In exactly the same, non-racist way that other people called Mansell (or Kimi) boring, or took the mickey out of Prost's wonky nose.

You've started saying (typing) 'what' in sentences a lot. Stop it. Soon you'll actually turn into an American.
