Unlocking LFS S2 behind a firewall?
I'm in school right now and I'm trying to unlock LFS S2, but I can't contact the master server, I guess this is due to the school's firewall that blocks traffic on just about everything exept port 80 (and ports 20 and 21 as FTP works).

Is there anyway of switch the port use for unlocking or use a public proxy?

I've tried a few but none of them can be used to unlock LFS.

I'd like to play LFS S2 while in school as I have like 3 hour break in the middle of the day, not much else to do here.

Thanks in advance
Unfortunately not. As far as I am aware, LFS uses a custom port so it only needs to be allowed through the firewall - which I dont think your SysAdmin will like.

Edit:
You may wish to try tunneling out though - as long as you have a machine outside it should work

I'm using Your Freedom as a proxy, but i can't find where i can edit the use of ports / proxy.

Could anyone tell me how I can unlock S2 behind my firewall?

(Yes, I read the FAQ)
LFS main folder\ cfg.txt search for a line
port 80 0
set it to 1 and unlock should work behind a firewall.
I had the same problem when I went to uni (2 years ago now!). Scawen and I couldn't figure out a way to get around it using the Halls network, so what I did was this:

Take a mobile phone with GPRS and a USB connection. Setup the phone to act as a modem for your PC, and connect to the 'mobile internet'. Unlock LFS using this connection (it only takes seconds, and cost me about 3p).

You won't be able to play online still, but it will be unlocked for hotlapping practice and 'racing' the AI.

Good luck!

That doesnt seem to work...

Our proxy adress / port is 172.16.180.8:8080, and i have Your Freedom listening @ localhost:1080 / localhost:8080

I changed the port LFS should use, but I dont think it affects LFS

Tomorrow i'll bring my USB cable with me

Thanks in advance

Port 80 1
Auto Kick 3
Address Name 1
Server IP 0.0.0.0
Server Name
Server Port 63392
Server Pass
port 80 is the default port for internet(http?), if you can see a website its normally open.

if unlocking still failed it probably because LFS didn`t use the http-protocol for unlocking (duno what LFS use)
and your firewall/proxy didn`t allow other protocols here.

Yea, but our proxy is located @ port 8080, so LFS should use that too, but the problem is that it doesnt

It worked, I used the GPRS connection of my K750i

Modifying the cfg.txt to use port 80 allowed me to unlock LFS on my work PC which is behind a pretty tight firewall. Still can't see or play on online servers but at least it allows me to hotlap or race the fantastic AI, or to play replays to convince coworkers they should get LFS

Hi there... Just found out that this is an old topic but Im trying anyway

I`m having some trouble after I bought S2 few hours ago and are trying to unlock the game. While I tried I get the error that says it cannot unlock because Im behind a firewall or that the server is down. After some reserch I found out that maybe changing the port adress will help so I set it til Port 80 1. And disable Norton.
Now I get the message: -Error while waiting for reply-

What to do?

(Sorry for my bad english, Haven`t write for a long time ago )
I'm not much of an expert but maybe the proxy is inspecting the packets and rejecting the LFS ones because they aren't a web page. (does this make sense?)

try using port 443. I heard that if you use the HTTPS port (443) the firewall won't inspect the traffic.

So would LFS use port 443 if you went

'port 443 1' ?

or does it only use 80
If port 8080 is allowed out of the network, find "Master Port" in cfg.txt and change it from what it currently set to (2.. something), to 8080. This is the only other alternative port that the master runs on now.

If you cannot get port 8080 working either, I'd suggest using a mobile, if you can. The amount of traffic you'll use will be minimal for unlocking.
None of this is working... argh...

How do I do it in mobile then?
Depends on your phone and how you can connect it to the PC - I'd suggest consulting the manual or the manufacturers website as they will usually tell you how you can get an internet connection using their kit.

If you can't connect via bluetooth or some form of data cable, then you maybe screwed.
I eas running version Q so its mayby thast whay it didnt work before so I updated to V -> W and X and tried then.
