Quote from DarkTimes :What about PHP's blatant disregard for consistent naming conventions? Statements which look like functions (array(), isset() etc..)?

Those listed are functions, technically. isset() is a function, not an operator. array() is compariable to a function that returns an array. Irritating in a non-typed language I'll admit.

Quote from DarkTimes :The crazy amount of depreciated guff left around because they can never break backwards compatibility?

Can't argue there.

Quote from DarkTimes :Oh yeah, my own personal favourite is how NULL, false and zero all evaluate to the same thing! Genius!

You need to learn about the === operator, clearly.

Quote from DarkTimes :I could go on for ages...

As could I.

PHP maybe weird, inconsistant, and painful in many, many cases. However, there are workarounds for everything you've stated.
as i said earlier what language you chose is down to personal taste...
