Ive Realised that the mirrors (left,Right,back) all dont have reflections. it will be best to see the car in the mirror so when your racing you can see how far the vehicle next to you is.

is this a good idea?

Mirrors need to be fixed once again however. Do a burnout and you can see both tires smoking.
Mirrors have gotten better since S1, but they once again need spreading.

Yup, they should show the own car, and the mirror images from the other cars need to go. It was a nice gimmick feature when introduced, but it is just so, so wrong.

When properly adjusted, you shouldn't see YOUR car in the mirrors anyway.

Always going to see stuff in the center rear mirror though.

What should replace it? Adding portal mirrors would make lfs more cpu intensive, and the effect gained would be minimal.

Or flat coloured? I'd rather have the current reflections than flat.

uh yes you should if you dont it gets a lot harder to tell where someone is and driving in reverse get unnescessarily hard as well

We have larger (wider) cars though too.

After not adjusting my mirrors for a long time during school, I landed up setting them exactly to where I couldn't see the edge of the car at all unless I moved forward some, I tell you what, that is a bad idea, you need to see a sliver of your car for your mirrors to be properly set, after going down the road I was like.. this really isn't working out at all, its just hard to judge things when you don't have your vehicle as a reference point.

You should see the rear door handle on a 4 door car in the bottom inner corner of the mirror.

Maybe in america they teach you differently - but over here you are taught to have a small slither of your car in your wing mirrors, gives you a better idea as to how close things are and puts a perspective on the view.

Not me, flat grey in S1 looked far more realistic than the TFT screen effect you get at the moment.

If you can see the side of your car in your mirror, there's just that much more that you can't see off to the side. Here are a couple links that show what I mean.

If you can just barely see a very tiny portion of your rear quarter, that's one thing. But most people have their mirrors adjusted way too close to the car which gives a big blind spot. Obviously, this is not a problem in LFS. But the reasoning stands. Mirrors are most effective if you can see little or none of your own car in them.

1) youll have a huge blind spot where bicycle drivers and bikers can slip through and mowing these down ia a far greater issue
2) youll be utterly unable to park your car or leave a parking spot

if you know how to use your mirrors properly youll only very rarely find yourself in a situation where theres something in any blind spot you dont know about and can account for without actually seeing it

That's strange. I've been driving for almost 20 years now, I park my car daily (often backing in), and I can't see my own car in my outside rear view mirrors...

How in the world have I manged all of this parking and leaving if, by your logic, I'm utterly unable to do so?

i take it from your location you dont exactly live in nyc or any european city with a medieval town centre ... or anywhere else in europe where most parking spots are quite different in size

Well, you can only reduce the size of the blind spot, not eliminate it entirely. I agree with you, any area of the mirror which is showing you the side of your car is wasted space. I think Shotglass is saying that you should be extra careful not to adjust them so far away from the car that there could potentially be room for something out of sight directly behind the mirror, like a person standing by the rear corner of your car.
I always set them to just leave a tiny sliver of the car still visible, so I know that it's adjusted correctly.

As sinbad said, a flat or shaded grey is much more realistic if you think about it. Realtime calculations are not needed at all, as for most cars it would just calculate seeing the window with a slightly different shade depending on how the sun shines on it. A blueish grey would be completely enough and look much better - sure it's just a minor thing, but it bugs me every time I notice it.

I hadn't really noticed it until you mention it, quite minor to me You're right, the mirrors now are a bit ridiculous. They're now shaded black in chase and shift+u also.

ive noticed that in the next patch they will have adjusting side mirriors so maybe you can implement this too?

You have to see small part of your car on your side mirrors, i must compare what i am seeing with something and that is my car, i can' tell how close to me are they if i don't see a part of my car..
