LAN play with the same-licensed (S3) game on both boxes - is it possible?
Hi!

Probably a silly question but anyway: I've recently introduced my 11 y.o. son to the world of sim racing, and as he seems to be okay with the wheel and pedals, I've decided to play LFS against him (and AIs) on my home LAN.
So I have the game installed and registered on my two laptops.
The account bound to the license is the same on both.
Since I've failed to locate an option to start a dedicated server (as I understand, it got removed in some past version of the game), I start a private global (?) server, add a bunch of AIs then go to the other laptop and try to join the game by its name, and it says to me that the user is already online (I've changed the name of the driver here so it supposedly refers to the account owner).
All-in-all, it looks like I cannot do what I'm after without buying another license.

This appears to be sort-of logical as it appears there's no "dedicated LAN" networking mode (where I'm assumed to own everything which ever joins the host Smile).

So, the question is: do I undestand correctly that I need to buy another proper license to play what I though to be a LAN party? Wink

Yes, you can be connected to one server using one lfsw account. You can use the account on multiple devices, but not at the same time. You do need 2 seperate licenses to join the same server on 2 different devices. However, why not make your son a demo account? The demo cars are great for training/learing different car handling
Thanks, got it!

The availability of tracks, basically (form reading the forum, I know it's an old story: some folks even suggest not to buy a license unless one has, like, 10k hours of playing in demo mode Wink).

Also, I would love to try head-to-head on something in the GTR class (which is S2), and, well, I would probably cope w/o Rockingham but OTOH I love its International and Handling layouts; would be cool to see how we would do on it.

Anyway, I love this game so much I'll think about sparing a couple of quid for another license Cool
It is still possible to use LAN. If you use version 0.6V3 or earlier, you can use that to host and play LAN games, because you can use your LFS account on two different computers. Unfortunately, that version doesn't have mods.

Otherwise, you need to get another account and another license as versions 0.6W and newer don't support that anymore.
