VR needs the minimum input/output lag possible. They tried to do it a year ago and technology wasn't there yet. I wouldn't expect it before the second version of theses things.

Well, with Steam Link (which goes over my congested wifi network. A dedicated network for the HMD itself), I have <1ms latency over WiFi. It's extremely performant.
free translation:

-he likes the menu because it is "clean"
-DK2 was "neat" but resolution bit too low, now he can better see other cars and track in distance.
resolution is not much better but makes a difference
-he raced against others with VR headsets and liked how one could see other players heads move.
(actually from what i noticed in MP I think the head animation is not "excact" but same as when using buttons for looking, maybe does not matter)
-there are no ("or almost no") "bright reflections from the lenses" except a tiny bit in menu or at very dark places
-tracking works good, view does not jump even when climbing on backseat
-when other games get patched he will try them too but in past (with DK2) only LFS convinced him
Ok. He is really enthousiastic that it works so fluently without any hick ups.. At start he mentions that he used the highest settings possible and that it doesnt get better then this. @T1 he starts to compare to the Rift DK2 and that it didnt provide enough resolution to 'see through the corners'.

At sector two he starts to talk about the brightness and clearness of the overlay.. Reflections.. Saying something about his eyes need to adapt a bit by looking to dark spots first. @start/finish he focuses at pixels.. When he really focuses at it then he can see pixels but during driving it doesn't really show.

Then he starts to compare with DK2 again and mentions he can see with Vive a little bit further away, where the track is going. Lap2 he is talking about how he experienced a race with other DK2 members and that its really nice to see what somebody else doing, where he is looking at.. Nah, then he tests the backseat and that you don't loose tracking / you still know where you are. After that, really gets mental, you can also drive while you are standing looking out of the (sun)roof..

Right, he is convinced, drives another lap and eehhh beautiful day wishes...

You got it all wrong. I didn't say it's bad that they delayed it. I've said that it was a dick move to make that announcement a few weeks before the supposted release date while they must have known many months ahead that they can't release it on time.

People were getting ready for the Holiday 2015 release, building VR-ready gaming rigs, making space in their rooms for the "roomscale VR", developers were rushing to get their games ready on time and then HTC casually drops the "we are excited to announce a delay" bomb. How is that not messed up?

Quote from dawesdust_12 :Given how Valve rapidly iterates on everything

Tell that to the people waiting for Half Life 3.

Quote from dawesdust_12 :Except modern WiFi is capable of 500mbit to >1gbit speed. There's plenty of excess bandwidth available at super low latency.

You know what? You should make your own VR headset, with lasers and WiFi. As a person who haven't even tried VR you can sure pull it off. Don't forget to make it for less than $300. Thanks and good luck.
Why this guy gets attention I don't know. He is not doing anything. Just dust.

How are you still relevant when all you do is flame?
Self reflection, try it. What did you add to the world this year?

See..
It's nice to see some really balanced and rational views on this forum. I told another oculus friend about Live for speed a few nights ago and he got to try it last night. He loves it.

Yes, Dawesdust first response and subsequent annoyed me because while I have no issue with someone having a preference (a percentage of Elite Dangerous players over at frontier forum have already decided they want Vive because of the spec). Dawesdust statements were just plain wrong and defamatory to OculusVR. I know Palmer and he's about as genuine as it gets with his passion for VR. He's also made the statement that Oculus exclusive titles won't be tied to Oculus hardware. People are free to mod and run on other VR systems.

While many including myself were shocked about the Facebook acquisition (I thought it was a joke given that the announcement came about a week before April 1st), it was a smart move. Although he'd been crowd-funded up to a point and had further investment. He was still forced to hunt around for old scraps.

We all like to complain about Facebook but I'm still using it while complaining about security. It wasn't just about the funding either. Facebook has the global presence to make VR a big thing.

Vive and Oculus both have their good points. Vive higher spec versus Oculus greater developer base. I think when Vive gets going it will have no shortage of software but right now Oculus has the advantage there.

Those who see VR as a gimmick are in for a shock from 2016 onward. It's not going to replace anyone's TV but it will become essential hardware for a new generation of entertainment.

First generation consumer VR will appeal to simulation fans and those with an understanding of VR willing to pay higher cost for new tech.

Mobile VR will increase the spread and popularity.

By the time second generation VR comes the user base will have expanded greatly as some of the big name developers wake up and join in. We now have Ubisoft and shock of all shocks: Dice to add to the list.

Bohemia Interactive have stated they are interested in future development which will please Arma fans.

The porn industry is also diving into VR as well as movie makers.

I really don't care if Dawesdust doesn't want VR. That's his choice. I was only reacting to the false statements about Oculus being dead and other nonsense.
Never mind HMDs, I'm waiting for holodecks...

you certainly seem to know what your talking about and I for one usually like to gather a little intel regarding a product I am looking at buying in the near future so I value valid information

also welcome to liveforspeed and i look forward to any races we may have
How were my statements false when I provided linked proof of Oculus going back on their promises?

Just stop. You are clearly either arguing for the sake of arguing, or just not that bright.

Why would I concede when I'm right? I even provided proof! Oculus fanboys are blatantly ignoring the proof for their own agenda.

There is a difference between "targeting" a price and promising a price, you know? Noone can predict a price of a hardware that is going to be released 3 years later. Components of the CV1 didn't even exist at that time.

That guy really is on a quest to prove that stupidity can go further than we can imagine...
Why do you continue to litter your replies with irrelevant insulting remarks? Are you not confident with your actual point that you need to attack me as well?
Today HTC ninja-edited the blogpost from Thuesday and added information about preorders starting at the end of February.

Now you are mistaking insults with facts.

Ok guys from now on let's go with the good old "don't feed the troll" rule and ignore dawedust_12. Hopefuly he will tighten up his tin foil hat and go somewhere else.
Of course. Providing facts and evidence makes me a "troll". Just because I disagree with the fanboys doesn't mean I'm wrong.

Has anyone proposed a theory of how the star trek holodeck could work?

This. Funny and true.

I've always had a strong interest in enhancing gaming/simulation way back to the days of IO-PC 3d. Had crappy image quality and most games were unplayable but it gave a glimpse of the future. I suppose that is my reference point to compare current VR with. PC-3d cost more than $1000 and featured very low contrast 800x600 displays. Unreal was unplayable because the textures just became a confused mess. Serious Sam 2nd encounter looked great though. No head-tracking on that system and the LCD's were temperature sensitive so I had to add a mini-fan to keep it cool or else the screen colors would randomly change.

Thanks! I'm really going to have to buy a new wheel and pedals? Any recommendations? I had Fanatec last year but had to sell it. No issues with it. I just needed the money at the time. Should have more spare cash over the next few months.

Not sure but I think it may have something to do with the way you bitch the same argument about being deceived by Palmer and ignoring any other view but your own. Anyway.. I think you should eat fried chicken and purchase that triple 4k monitor setup.
All right, grammatonfeather and dawesdust, please could you stop talking to each other?

It'll just go on and on, so I'm asking you to stop right now. Neither of you is going to back down, so why hope for it? Please don't answer that.

We provide this forum to discuss LFS, sim racing, any related things. Not as an arguing platform.

If it is used as an arguing platform despite requests and warnings, I will click the "ban user" button.

I have a lot of work to do and I have spent too much time here dealing with this nonsense. How many hours of my life will be devoted to dealing with Dustin Dawes, I wonder?

Ahh it's glad to hear that the main problem for me on dk2 is better in the vive and consumer rift! The resolution for seeing far ahead for spotting braking points etc on the dk2 was slightly too low. With another 25% more pixels that gives us a nice boost looking into the distance. He says seeing the road ahead is improved a bit confirming the 25% extra pixels helping a bit. Great news and hopefully combined with less screen door and a higher refresh rate it will be a massive overall boost than dk2. Happy days ahead!
