But.. they are not borring
They are anything but boring. Why do you keep watching the show when you clearly hate everything about it? Are you just here to ruin it for others or something?
You watch it... I pay for it... great deal

Pikey's Peak and then a rubbish look at the P1 pushed me over the edge. I used to say the same things as you last series
Top Gear has been like this since 2002. It's not meant to be informative or serious. It's meant to be people messing about in cars.

Don't start moaning that 1p in your annual salary goes towards Top Gear as if that's wrong. Imagine how awful TV would be if it was all paid for by advertising. No thanks. I'd happily pay ten times the licence fee to avoid that.

Not quite sure why , after 12 years, TG haters are still watching it. Maybe they're idiots.

P1 section amazing. Clarkson looked genuinely terrified by the speed at times. I want one.

My brother and I agreed on all of this.

+1 although id like them all to be together. May it be scripted, but the atmosphere among them is always quite nice to watch.

Please don't get Intrepid started on the license fee pish again, there are a million ways around not paying for it, both legal and illegal so just stop paying it if Top Gear is shit.
My only issue with Top gear is the reasonably priced car segment.

Its boring and takes up soo much of the episode, its only ever good when they bring a racing driver to do a lap.

The Specials are what make the series great for me.

Quote from ACCAkut :Well there are lots of good (and free) other shows and sources, Fifth Gear and /DRIVE to name two.
Pretty sure Top Gear doesn't even try to compete with them. It found its role as entertainment involving cars

Yes. My problem is that I enjoy the entertainment (editing/camera shots/presenters...not necessarily the repetitive drama) but mainly miss the informative part. Of course not everyone will be happy with everything, so according to Tristan...I may be an idiot.
You have to go back to... 1996 (?) since Top Gear was intended to be informative.

Was it really that long ago?....and I am still watching it...ah well that is confirmation then...
Still interested to see the laptime of the P1 though.
Hello.......
TV franchise that's focused on making money for the shareholders.
If you don't like it, cool, it clearly others do, and they make money from what their doing.
It's a laugh, if your paying to watch it, WHY ?, it's just yet another tv program. Not as good as South Park, better than most of the rest.

Not entirely, there are plenty of segments of the show that could be changed to embrace world culture, but the show tries it utmost to stay British, which wouldn't happen on a non BBC show for sure.
Quote from Anthoop :Yes.
There used to be a time when Top Gear was an informative programme on the telly for car nerds....now it is just entertainment for the masses....car nerds still persevere but end up with the same feeling...

If I had any say in it then I would suggest getting an ex-racing driver to do the reviews on cars like the P1.....oh wait a mo....

Holy Crap, haven't seen you anywhere in LFS in a while, come drive with us at Dead men Racing.

I wouldn't compare Top Gear to south park, I wouldn't pay for TV in today's world of "Every things at your finger tips" But Comcast is offering 45 BILLION to take over Time Warner and make a profit.

Thanks Ant. Suspect my girlfriend will make me feel more special...

I didn't say when Top Gear started. I meant when the original show finished. That's when you have to back to.

Some of our cars were on the original show, but we've declined every request by new Top Gear to borrow a car - they tend to break cars and not pay for them, and we could do without that hassle.

Not true - the first series of 'new' Top Gear (at least) did show some attempt at being informative. Literally (yes, I do mean literally) the first segment on the first episode of 'new' Top Gear featured Clarkson driving a Citroen Berlingo Multispace on a 'proper' road test on real roads and gave what appeared to be a reasonably informative review. There are lots of other examples I could use from the first series of 'new' Top Gear where they appeared to be attempting to be informative (such as a segment on running cars on used vegetable oil, shopping around dealerships looking for better prices on new cars when they were trying to get rid of stock before new models and a 'proper' road test of a Mazda 6 on real roads). All of these were in the first episode. The change in the format and content of 'new' Top Gear happened over time.

The increase in the non-PC, lazy and idiotic 'comedy' also came over time.

edit: Incidentally, a few PC-related clips:

Note: The first 2 clips contain several clearly racist terms and 'swear words', used to demonstrate a point. If you don't want to hear 'the N word' or 'the C word' don't open these links.

The BBC doesn't have shareholders, it's publicly funded by a TV Licence fee.
Which is the best way to fund TV!
Quote from tristancliffe :Which is the best way to fund TV!

I know, right? I mean, look at these dodgy shows and programming outputs -

Deadwood
The Wire
Breaking Bad
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Broadchurch
Ice Road Truckers
South Park
Archer
Game of Thrones
Arrested Development
F1 2014 (Fully Live)
MotoGP 2014 Live
All other motorsports
Premier League & Champions League Football (if that's ya thing)
Idiot Abroad
House of Cards
The Sopranos
Mad Men
Homeland (Season 1)
Brass Eye
Boardwalk Empire
The West Wing
The Daily Show
etc... etc... etc...

Thank god we have Flog It, Mock The Week, Eastenders, BDO Darts, World Bowls Championship and Miranda to saves us from that sort of rubbish TV.

The TV licence means the BBC has to produce a ton of shit to satisfy its public remit. The current model means the BBC can't make shows like 80% of the ones listed above. Make it private, make it subscription (its going to happen eventually because no one is insane enough to try and introduce an internet licence), give them freedom to invest in proper TV drama, comedy and documentary and we might get some decent output that could rival The Wire (I know it's a cliché and wallowy to talk about The Wire, but there is NOTHING the BBC have ever produced that could ever come close to the quality of that show... nothing) etc... Overall funding MAY fall, but they wouldn't be investing in stupid projects like Salford either and the could invest in some proper shit.
But then the Neo Socialists will have to endure an advertisement.
