Xeon Processor
Hi Chaps,

I have the chance to obtain a computer with a dual Xeon processor for free, and was wondering, in your experience, how does a Xeon perform to an I3 Processor as this is what I have at the moment?

Cheers

Fordie
The first Xeon processor got introduced in 1998. At that time it already was possible to have that in dual or quad config, so if it's from that time it's totally worthless.

Maybe useful as heating system in the winter though.
Without knowing the specific architecture codename (let along the exact model) of the CPU, it's impossible to tell how it will perform. Do you know what year it is from?

He should get an AMD processor if he wants to use it for that.
If it's free you might as well give it a go.
Go for it !

They were generally used in servers so there's a good possibilty that the board won't have a pci-e or even an AGP slot.

Make a great home/business server though.

Yes, and once you add a graphics card to an intel box then whats the power difference ?
