Actually it is just to rename the Nissan engine Alpine-Renault for marketing reason as Renault is going to relaunch this brand in 2015 and as Nissan going to P1, no need to advertize P2 results.
Quote from MoMo92i :and as Nissan going to P1

FFS, this is NOT confirmed. The interest to do so was merely mentioned in the press release to make ACO happier.
Renault returns in the most cheapskate possible way by rebranding the current Oreca P2 chassis as Alpine and using the Nissan engine. <insert here some PR blah blah about racing passion>

Quote :For its return to Le Mans, Alpine has joined forces with Signatech. The Philippe Sinault-run team will enter an Alpine LM P2 prototype with an Alpine chassis powered by a 500hp Nissan engine for the five rounds of the ELMS, including the opening race at Silverstone, England (April 13). The drivers will be Nelson Panciatici and Pierre Ragues.

Unless this is true (claims Caterham will help developing a new chassis): http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=27287

They couldn't extend the windshield a little more forward or anything?

Quote :In addition, the new competition class names for 2014 were announced:
* The lead Prototype (P) class, combining GRAND-AM’s Daytona Prototypes plus the ALMS’ P2 and DeltaWing cars;
* Prototype Challenge (PC), retained from the current ALMS class structure;
* GT Le Mans (GTLM), consisting of the ALMS’ current GT class;
* GT Daytona (GTD), consisting of GRAND-AM’s current GT class and the ALMS’ current GTC class;
* GX, coming over from the current GRAND-AM structure.

I like the simple names of those GT classes. IMSA will be the sanctioning body.

If you dislike the name, blame this fan from Florida
Quote :The concept of having you help us write history began months ago. We needed a name for our new racing series. We asked for ideas from our fans of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón and the GRAND-AM Rolex SportsCar Series.

Nearly 8,000 ideas were submitted! Louis Saterlee, 25, of Florida suggested United SportsCar Racing. What a great name, made even better by Louis’s story. He was hooked to motorsport at the age of two, was the 2011 Florida Karting Championship Series – Rookie of the Year, and has been attending both the Rolex 24 At Daytona and the Twelve Hours of Sebring with this father for 22 consecutive years!

“Sportscar racing became my religion,” explains Satterlee. As for the name? He adds, “United, because two series are now one. SportsCar because it’s what we do. And Racing because, is there really any other way these machines should be run?”

That's gonna be a lot of GT cars. Sad to see P1 go, but that's economics, I guess.

They're going to have to make DPs faster because they can't really make PCs slower if they want to have any kind of gap to the LMGTs.

form follows function, but I think it doesn't look too bad. Pretty interesting that its now sporting a 2.0 Mazda unit instead of the 1.6 Nissan, so may have quite a bit of power more now.
By the way, Allan nice crash again !
Does anyone know if there's any European tv channel covering all of the Sebring race tomorrow?
Motors TV look like they're not showing it between 16:30 and 19:00gmt
I think it'll be streamed on AudiTV, and possibly an official stream too.
lol, after showing a "This content is not available in your region" on two reloads, on the third try I suddenly got the stream. Odd, but nice
Thanks guys.
I was hoping to be able to point my dish somewhere so I could record it on my stb as I won't be able to watch much of it live.
Is there an easy way of recording the stream instead?
Streams?
Quote from troy :You could use the alms stream during that timeslot kelvin, direct link for it

edit: you can also easily save this one, should just be save link as and voila.

Did you snoop this link yourself? Trying to figure out how to get the direct links for the onboards, if they even use the same service/protocol.

edit: it's not rtmp stream, so rtmpsrv+rtmpdump is a dead end.
You're over thinking it, it's just a straight forward http stream that changes depending on your bandwidth. You can use adblock or some other browser addon that catches http links or url snooper/wireshark if you like it that way.

edit: lemme check the onboards, if I ever get on the alms site that is...
