Piratebay might be banned soon from the whole world, same as MegaUpload
If games were cheaper and not so much crap as they are lately, maybe a lot more people would want to buy them.

How is it possible that movie, game and music revenue are going down, while the Avengers broke a record, games still get platinum and music theaters still get sold out?
There are ways to get around the domain name/ip block just google it and you can get back on to the site.

Uh no
Megauploaded was raided by authorities because authorities knew perfectly well where their servers etc are located (they couldn't really hide them because they stored petabytes of data)
Piratebay is physically impossible to shut down because it's hosted all around the world (TPB's servers are easy to hide due to whole torrent database being just a few GB's big)
Or just change DNS server like explained in the link I posted in my previous post....
I don't know if this applies to the Finnish blockade but many of these are implemented as DNS blackholes. If so, you can just use external nameservers.

One provider is Google, use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for nameservers or see what Google says about it here:

For some reason this workaround never did it for me, instead the one posted by Framaris works very well:

Quote from Framaris :Posted something last week about internet blockades on our forum: http://www.ready2rollteam.com/ ... topic.php?f=16&t=1242

Good post.

I suppose I was a bit silly to think that Google wouldn't do their best respect the Finnish law. Thanks to Framaris for pointing out BlockAid, that seems like a great project and I'm glad to hear it's working.
Full on censorship here we come. All what has been achieved is that real criminals will get more educated while the normal people will have more and more basic sites blacked out.
I don't see how not being able to download a bootleg copy of The Avengers is tantamount to full internet censorship of news and communication worldwide.

Last time this was done it was to prevent child pornography in internet using some special filter that blocks certain sites that were on banned list. Then one of the sites they censored was one of the legal sites that was critical about the child pornography filter.

Long story short the owner of the site got labelled as distributor of child pornography because his site was linked with child pornography, he took the issue to court and it was ruled that he has to pay the costs himself to get his site removed from the list of blocked sites. Not to mention that filter did not for sure stop even one pedophile from getting his stuff.

And like spanky already said. Finland is not exactly the best example of doing things correctly:
http://www.yle.fi/uutiset/news ... urt_judgments_717531.html

So we have an already proven case of misuse of these filters, proven harm to normal people and essentially an example of a case of slippery slope this will lead to. It is hard to say I'm over exaggerating because we already seen the full circle happen once.

I don't have any problem shutting down piratebay for example with legal means. Censorship is not the answer to this. These shady internet filters are not the way to go. Everybody who wants can already bypass this so the actual benefit was nothing. But now we have internet censorship and it will only get bigger and badder. China here we come.

Piratebay is definitely not the only place you can get torrents. That's why I don't understand the hype about it.
Last time i used piratebay was years ago....
It's not really about using it or not, it's the principle of being against censorship and corporations/copyright mafia shitting down on citizens at every chance they get. I really wish people would just stop buying the horrible crap that music companies spew out these days, and rather spend their money on indie artists where your cash actually goes for the artist, not some music label suits with millions already on their bank account.

As much as I like living in this country, stuff like this makes me sick.
I download a lot of stuff using TPB, almost all of it legally, just to make life hard for the internet nazis. Next round of internet freedom raping is Europe placing charges on data from US sites, mainly aimed at US corporations like itunes and google, 'yeah, right on, screw the corporations'... BS, its about putting borders on information. Last time this kind of censorship was going on there was a war not long after...

Yeah too many people seem to fixate on the fact that it's the piratebay. Some people like piratebay, some people dont, but for the sake of all of us I hope too many people don't like censorship.
