The online racing simulator

maybe during european times... half the time i look at the server list, all i see are cruise/drift servers, and the "flavour-of-the-week" multiclass server.

Well yeah, but right now server's should start to get more drivers and in few hours time it's the best as it gets. :P
I'm anxiously waiting for the new patch, too. Crying about it will not help, though..

Cargame.nl -servers have got me into racing again. It's very cool that the devs have made the game so flexible that it can be extended with server scripts.

I keep hearing about league races being the way to go, any recommendations on which one a beginner like me could i join?
I've been frantically waiting for this new patch since it was announced, however from reading the recent discussion I believe this topic has well... become redundant. I've often checked the LFS main page over this year to see if its finally been released, coming only to my dismay that it's still the same update that's been there for ages.

Regardless, I honestly believe if we give the Developers time and less pressure to work with, maybe it'll seem like it's going to be ready sooner. Who knows? We could get a surprise this Christmas. Nonetheless, I'll still check in to see if the update is ready. Oh, how I'd kill to be playing LFS right now; without a decent computer I'm stuck with... not so fun things.

Still seeing a few familiar faces, too! I guess that also means that Live For Speed isn't a dead racing simulator just yet.

Still supporting the devs, anyway, got £12 ready for when S3 comes.
Quote from Not Sure :I keep hearing about league races being the way to go, any recommendations on which one a beginner like me could i join?

Generally you have to be in a team first to join league racing
and don't forget the original lfs league.

Not being in a team doesn't exclude you from league racing.
I wonder if Scawen gets some help from specialists about the whole physic calculation of this, or if he does this all alone. I mean, getting a tyre simulation to be perfect sounds close to impossible, and probably involves so much factors.

Also, if he succeeds in this tyre simulation, I wonder if it could have other uses else than LFS. I'm sure that stuff could be useful to some people.
i can't even imagine what it will be like to find out one day that the patch is released...

Then I think the parts of the community that have been been moaning quite vocally should offset the bulk of crap in this thread and actually contribute something constructive, and learn to actually keep on topic.
Quote from bavorak :screw Santa...I wouldnt mind if Buddha or Alah brought the patch...

Excellent!

Keep on topic, sir? How? There really isn't much physics to talk about because NOTHING HAS BEEN HAPPENING. If you are unhappy by my moaning and groaning, you may might as well report me. However, until something actually happens, I will waste my time like a stupid teenager I am and continue on saying stuff like:

ME DRIFT0RZZZZ WAUNTT NEW FYZIKS SO I CAN DRIFT LIKE DRIFFFKIN !!!!

But seriously guys, I can't see another purpose of this thread. If we aren't getting updates, we might as well fill it with spam, right?
To do what, we don't know.
To be honest this situation is looking very sad, really.
A community left wandering around with not even a single word to stop the users from spreading all over.
I mean, if that's a meter of how much they care about their users...
Though it'd not happen, I'd be happier if I could at least get a goodbye; we are no longer developping the sim. I wouldn't be hung here for hours upon hours of checking the website. "Possibly he put up a post stating something? "

All in all, please say something. Nothing is more frustrating that the lack of communication and information. Fortunately, Gran Turismo 5 is coming out. Unfortunately, I am too fking poor to buy a PS3 + a copy.
Guys, I'm the first saying that I don't agree with Scaviers work techniques, but it's their own, and by now I thought it was pretty clear to everyone.

Scawen will release updates when he feels they're ready, and he may or may not speak about his progress while he's working on it. But he's working on it. There's been no indication that he's ever even considered stopping LFS.

Yes, from our end it seems pretty slow, or even completely stopped, but that's only because he doesn't feel the need of writing reports which I believe he feels would be useless and redundant (there's only so many ways you can say "I'm working on that stuff").

I think Scawen had made it pretty clear that he would post something when something actually worth reporting is accomplished. Do read (again, if you've forgotten) Scawen's last posts in this thread... http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=1454911#post1454911 onwards...

They've not said goodbye and you dont have to check the website: Just tick the "Receive newsletter" for the question "Do you wish to stay informed via our newsletter?" in the account details page in LFS.net. You will be informed when a stable patch is out. (https://www.lfs.net/?page=accountdetails)

On another note, at both IlGuercio and GenesisX (this applies to most others as well) just having a look at your LFSW stats, both of you seems to have a certain trend in the cars you've drive. Just a suggestion: do try the other cars at the combinations you've not (seemed to) raced at.

Yes, those maybe your favorites but theres still great racing to be had with other cars/combos.

I like the TBO and NGT classes, but I could have just as much fun racing the UF1 or the MRT. Yes, there is a sort of lack of populated servers; but thats not the dev's fault. You guys need to be racing online for all of us to have some great racing.

Some of you guys have driven one or two cars in at some locations (Westhill etc), assuming LFSW stats havent been reset (or you do your racing in single player), you're missing out on quite a lot!

LFS physics are good enough for great racing now (imo); an updated physics engine, a new track and a car or two are not going to make the world of difference if you're not making use of whats already available...

There are at least a couple of populated racing servers at any given time *fingers crossed*, jump in and race!
My Christmas gift for the devs will be this.

Yer I think your right, there would be more money in a good tyre model rather than a sim... first one to the market will corner a lot I think!
Maybe it is to much to ask for an update as it may be commercially sensitive, you don’t want to give info away to the competitors. It may be to much to ask for them to give the tyre model to a load of sim heads.

Way to generalize all the drifters, I know a few people, including me, who love drifting and also love racing. I don't race on LFS, but I race on iRacing.

Can't wait for the new tire model on LFS though, the tire heating on this one blows.
all of lfs's websites were just down, so...

Can't we just let this die and forget about it? Complaining, speculating and whining just makes this community even worse. You have a great game, go play it! My guess is 70%+ of the people here havn't set foot on some of the sub-standard cars/tracks. There's an entire game out there waiting for you, play!
@Silverracer

thx for the links man! I Dont read this before.
That is an good explaining for all waiting Members.
Now i can wait a little longer.

thx man
So when I read some posts here, if Scawen posted progress report every week, everone would get back to LFS and play it, so it wouldn't be dead?
Quote from arco :My Christmas gift for the devs will be this.

What does this situation have to do with customer service?
Scawen stated quite clearly what his goals are, what he's working on, and that he won't be posting aboput the progress until he met a milestone.

Honestly, a way better christmas present for this forum would be a (audio)guide on comprehensive reading for many people in this community.
For ones who are lazy to click and to find what Scawen said.

Scawen said:
"Today I thought I'd just have a look at this thread, but there are too many new pages for me to read in detail. Anyway, you may be assured we have not stopped development. I guess if we stopped development then we'd make a post about it. I'm not sure how that would happen, maybe if I got run over or contracted a fatal illness or perhaps someone will come and offer me a flight to the moon but I have to train at NASA for a couple of years. Unlikely, and there's really nothing better I can do than work on this simulator. I just don't want to write about every step on the development path, so that's why there is a long time between progress reports."

Keep cool and stay calm. I'm sure we will be impressed for the update. I'm kind of hot-tempered person too, but I can wait for this.

Let developers do their job. I will wait until 2012, if there is no major update till then, I may start moaning. And I dont' want to be moaning for this, devs.
