The online racing simulator
Production issues, in more depth....

Quote :The problem arose when SCE mandated SDK 350 on all games releasing after after October, GT5 was about to go gold running on SDK 341, but it has been delayed by around a week so that they can update to SDK 350. This has caused a big headache for the manufacturing side, given how big this game is missing the gold date by even a week can cause a months worth of delay as slots are already taken up at this time of year for Blu-ray movies and such. So Sony had to find a 3 week slot big enough to make 7m+ copies of this and get them shipped out.

If you want to blame anyone, I would direct it at the pirates and hackers, SCE never had any real SDK restrictions before firmware 3.41 was compromised..

lol, blame the hackers. right.
The cynic in me says its marketing spin, but it sorta makes sense, releasing it running on an older SDK would have meant that GT5 would have been open to copying.

I believe SDK350 has a different encryption system.

yeah but really how many people have a blu-ray drive on their pc let alone one that can record blu-rays. Probably a few hundred in the world and i bet not many of them have a ps3 and / or are pirates
Aslong as the release date stays within 2010 I'm happy.

You could/can get BR rips off the net and use them on a USB HDD.....

good point

The hackers will crack this too.
Quote from DeadWolfBones :The hackers will crack this too.

Hackers get round anything once they figure out how, if isomething has been programmed, it can be 'unprogrammed'.
Quote from BlueFlame :if isomething has been programmed, it can be 'unprogrammed'.

If that were true cryptography would be a difficult sell to people who trust a lot of their money in it.

You mean like every copy protection scheme ever created?
Quote from DeadWolfBones :You mean like every copy protection scheme ever created?

Yes, but the methods used to protect really sensitive data (i.e. not encrypted DVD content) isn't so easy to crack. Writing a keygen, bypassing DVD copy protection etc are nothing compared to cracking proper military/government transmissions. That was what I was highlighting. A lot of the public believe that any computer system or encryption algorithm is easy to crack because they see films like Hackers or Swordfish, but the reality of strong encryption is a lot different. Even if a good RSA implementation is broken (which looks pretty difficult) the statement I quoted is NOT true for practical purposes.
Even normal people stuff is hard to crack. 7z's are impossible without resorting to brute force.. which is slow.
So basically, they could have avoided this altogether had they released it october 31st? Why delay rather than make it earlier!?

New vid! Do I hear a new transmission whine sound...?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bl64-_ywrQ

And it looks like the G27 is fully supported

The Time Trial did work with one of the Fanatecs

The transmission whine is dubbed over, same as all sound in that vid near the end imo.

(The in-car at 1:23) At 1:27 u can hear engine speed increase and tranny whine but speedo doesn't increase
Maybe it's simulated clutch slipping
but if the clutch slips, the gearbox shouldn't be revving up.

and a clutch that is slipping in 6th gear is really out of order lol.

1 if a clutch slips the engine will rev but yes the gearbox will not and number 2 lol so true
Video where you can hear the new super loud transmission sound
It even stutters as power delivery fluctuates
The guy is using a G27 there., in another video I saw the rev lights on the wheel light up

Compare to the old transmission whine in the Time Trial/E3 build

Sounds more like a real dogbox. Now for those blow off valve chirps that dynamicly change sound with boost pressure...

Funny how you all believe the clutch/transmission/engine simulation to be flawed when it could simply be the speedo
I very much doubt they properly simulate a tranny/diff/wheel shaft driven speedometer.

€: Proof. That speedo should go nuts.
LOL, I made that edited M5 video, (fixed the phase problems in the audio) then someone re uploads it to Youtube, along with the same comments I had in the original video description..... even the title and keywords are exactly the same!
